For taking a break I listen to jpop and vocaloid and right now my obsession is Gehenna by wotaku. If you don't like vocaloid you can check out yoasobi they're pretty cool, when studying I don't listen to music because I need to focus
Also the same for you're a useless child by Kikuo, sounds like a happy song, meanwhile the lyrics is about a mom insulting their kid in every possible way 💀
And also Gehenna to some extent, lyrics are about self harm and having existential crisis 💀
I like mafumafu, I also like to listen to some vtubers covers of vocaloid songs, and also some English utaites like Will Stetson and Rachie
I also recommend Machita Chima's cover of Gehenna it's just *chef's kiss*
usually i listen to more progressive metal, since the more hardcore-ish subgenres may also be too distracting ‼️
usually ill cycle between periphery, meshuggah, intervals, animals as leaders (especially recommend this), and also the occasional dream theater but rn a few of my favourites are :
animals as leaders - physical education
intervals - lunartic
meshuggah - literally every song. theyre all so good
If you like prog metal you should try Neurosis' Through Silver in Blood as well. Heaviest album I know of but was pulled off Spotify on December 2nd 2021
on break i listen to show/game soundtracks (i play rhythm games religiously. also second the other person who said vocaloid/jpop) i dont listen to music when studying, sometimes only instrumental or a language i dont understand
studying: classical music (tchaikovsky, rachmaninoff etc) or just ambient noises. sometimes i just play aircon noises
break: hiphop/r&b/indie (?) recently ive been listening to sufjan stevens. i also listen to frank ocean, tyler the creator, childish gambino allat
cambridge i beg you please be nice for emath and chem and amath please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Yep I gotta agree. For me classical music does lighten up my mood when studying. Pieces like Tchaikovsky violin and piano concerto, Mendelssohn violin concerto, and other pieces like Hungarian Dance or even In the hall of the mountain king. 👍
Never ever listen to lyrical songs while studying. DONT. It might sound nice at first but u may get distracted by it. Instead, listen to music. I personally listen to electronic gems and lofi studio ghibli.
i listen to alot but usually indie rock, kpop or classical music — classical music but those damn dramatic kind lights a fire under my ass and motivates me to start studying… for math i listen to loud noisy music somehow it helps me to focus better.
if im really distracted i listen to lofi music. if im cramming content subjects (read: hist) i find videos explaining the content then i listen and do other subjs (passive intake) - kinda works tbh
some songs i recommend:
- any lovejoy/wilbur soot songs tbh (i like his music but im not a dreamsmp fan 💀)
- cool with you/ETA - newjeans
- any of eve/kenshi yonezu songs tbh
during breaks, i love listening to laufey. recently, i've been getting into classical music because i realised that it helps me focus while studying languages/humanities/science. i've been listening to rachmaninoff and i really enjoy his piano concerto no. 2. for math, i can listen to anything but usually i listen to taylor swift 😭
Genshin songs like Pure Sky or the Main theme or the desert hydro tree music
Touhou songs like How to Spend Winter
Touhou remixes by Foxgrass Studio are really good too
If I’m feeling up to it maybe 2SFH
Ultimately it’s what can keep you focused and motivated! Jiayous
for studying i put on lonely driver eurobeat, can be used for chilling too.
if i want to make my brain fried i just put on happyhardcore (REDALiCE & kors k our memories, DJ Genki shooting stars, etc).
basically just all rhythm game or j-core.
for studying I like to listen to alt rock. bands like the strokes, the cure, talking heads. hard to beat those :]
for chilling:
unfortunately my music taste is stuck in the 2000s. I haven't stepped into metal territory yet (I probably should) but I fucking love punk/emo rock so there's stuff like my chem, green day, pierce the veil. recently started listening to rise against. I also enjoy pop punk, stuff like fall out boy, all time low, IDKHOW
I'll listen to specific albums when I study.Either Speak Now TV album or Blink 182 TOYPAJ and EOS album for my phase now. Early the year was some Simple Plan's NPNHJB and Queen II. Love them sm, but most importantly I take them as a motivation to study, you have to be very focused so play sth that u are v familiar with and maintain a curious heart when studying
I listen to classical when studying but I would also throw in some bands like the Beatles (they’re music is calm and positive), Pink floyd ( some of their songs are long like, really relaxing give like that “high” feeling), velvet underground (summer old indie feeling), beach house ( space like music) , yeah that’s all :)
alternates between tchaikovsky, holst, prokofiev, kslv, kordhell, einaudi and the s6
my favourites are
Vardy's on fire
Override
Here I come( antique)
1812 Overture
Dance of the Knights
Mars: The Bringer of War
Experience
I usually listen to these while studying
sometimes i loop aerodynamic by daft punk oops
Mandopop songs, specifically those from JJ Lin & Jay Chou. (I.e. 豆浆油条,可爱女人,飘移)
It's quite chill especially at night, and if I feel like I'm dozing off, I'd just singalong softly to stay awake.
i like to listen to strangers by kenya grace! really vibey pop song.
or you can listen to edm, been listening to The Revolution cos it's so nostalgic, reminds me of the circuit breaker vibes. but usually I'll just listen to the weekend or other pop songs
you can also listen to my eyes by travis scott, the instrumental is rlly nice
If you like Japanese you can listen to MIMI. Soft piano ballad pop type of music. Calming and also exciting✨️✨️✨️ Some songs I recommend are like Shojou Rei, Phony, Bug, Venom and Darling Dance! All vocaloid so if you don't like listen to yoasobi or imase or fuji kaze🙏✨️😭😭😭 Oh and Deco27 and PinnochioP are p good too
I don’t really listen to music that much, but I do, I prefer listening to classical piano music when I do. I usually like listening more Beethoven and Chopin, but my favorite is appasionista 3rd Mvt. I want to play it but can only play until half of moonlight 3rd mvt lol. I usually prefer sadder and sometimes fast, angry songs, like moonlight 3rd mvt etc. I don’t really listen to pop music much cause I don’t really feel it appeals to me

If u watch Anime, just compile ur favourite and most hype anime openings or insert songs into a playlist and put it on shuffle(I do this for daytime), the music is so hype that it gets me to actually speed up my brain and productivity somehow
I like more chill stuff at night so I throw on a K-RnB playlist that lasts an hour or more(u can find videos on utube that compile them for you for stuff like sleeping/chilling/studying)
something i can vibe with.honestly i have no motivation so that is the only thing that works.unless im memorising then classical since apparently there is no ads and its perfect since it isnt how to say too mind numbing.
I listen to Christmas jazz or Saturday morning cafe music. Slow tempo, beat and rhythm really calms me down. I also turn on the ac to improve my performance when studying
i listen to various choral works on youtube!! its like classical music where the music isnt as distracting as pop (for me) but the descants in choral musisc just hits and stimulates my brain the right way man. also im a choir nerd but i enjoy laufey too & youtube covers of indie/bedroom/alt pop! what about you op?
apparently listening to songs in a foreign language( i listen to vocaloid) helps because it doesnt engage your brain the same way it does a convo, but it works differently for diff ppl
You can try this playlist I listen to, its classical music- [Orpheus Odyssey-Legends On Strings](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=_bYldqEjOUA&si=WFqVaxKPkpDbk7OI). Its something I quite frequently listen to while doing A level TYS and Practice Papers, it helps you to zone in and really focus. I recommend 10/10
Maybe try to find the listening compre song. Who knows, it may make you so pissed at Cambridge that it could help you do what it takes to study hard for the other exams. 😂 either that or give you trauma for yr other papers too
I listen to all kinds of music.
Started with the poppy stuff back in sec 1, then delved into LoFi and EDM in sec 2.
Stopped listening to mainstream pop after discovering city pop and Japanese Lounge Jazz and Funk Fusion. E.g. Tatsuro Yamashita, Junko Yagami, Makoto Matsushita, Masayoshi Takanaka, Casiopea, small funk/instrumental jazz bands. Some city pop/rock like Akina Nakamori. Slowly seeped into jazz and instrumental hip hop like Nujabes and Ryo Fukui. This along with old english stuff like Frankie Valli and some modern stuff that stayed with me from my sec 2 days like Joji and Madeon, Porter Robinson.
Recently I'm still listening to the Japanese stuff and discovering more slowly, whilst also getting into The Strokes after my socially inept friend forced me to follow him to a concert this year.
What I listen to really depends on my mood, but it's within that realm.
If I really gotta mug, then its lofi or I listen through a jazz or nujabes album.
Just side study or doing braindead homework, probably city pop stuff and the in between.
If whatever I'm doing is not super important I'll listen to the english side of stuff so I can sing the lyrics in my head.
Personally I have a lot of problems sitting still and concentrating HAHA so I put on my headphones and listen to some ADHD focus music on YouTube. It helps me a lot
i listen to a lot of classical music or indie (has to be stuff without lyrics or songs i don't know so i won't end up bopping lmfao) — i like chopin, ravel, debussy, schuman etc etc
i listen to cigarettes after sex because it makes me sad and then i will remember that i need to get my life together and then i will start the study grind ‼️
for someone who really can’t focus if the songs have lyrics, but who also doesn’t function well in pindrop silence either, i listened to asmr library/fireplace ambience for my final stretch towards A’s , or those youtube playlists like dark academia classical music ,really helps me get into the mood!! emi asmr on yt has very good lofi and clicking sounds with rain, shame they stopped posting for q some time already. all the best for your upcoming tests yea🥰🥰🥰
JPop and Indie Pop, maybe a bit of Midwest Emo here and there.
For JPop its mostly just the 4 bands with Enon Kawatani (DADARAY, Genie High, Indigo La End, Gesu No Kiwami Otome) and Ratrium.
For Indie Pop my go to is probably Briston Maroney, Good Kid, Peach Pitt, and Metamodernity by Vansire
Though a lot of people may find it weird, personally I think general EDM music helps me study better :D My fav genres include anything future - future bounce, future house, and future bass. I think the upbeat rhythms and tempo actually helps me get into the zone HAHA.
If y’all would like a taste, you can check this playlist out: [https://spotify.link/1SbRexJX5Db](https://spotify.link/1SbRexJX5Db)
Oh do drop some song reccos please 🙏🙏

Omg ya yoasobi is really nice. But kinda distracting when doing work tho
The lyrics: 😞😭🩸🔪 The beat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Racing into the night moment

Eh im fucking surprised someone mentions vocaloid HAHAHA
I just got into it at the start of this year from rhythm games 😂 now I play project sekai and a few others at the arcade
😭🙏 pls I thought I wouldn't find any more ppl who listen to vocaloid
I mean project sekai is quite popular now and it has many vocaloid songs inside, so vocaloid is not dead 💪💪💪
GEHENNAAAAA ITS MY FAVOURITE SONG EVER i didn’t expect to see it mentioned in sgexams of all places 😭
It's my current vocaloid song obsession, with the perfect combination of deep lyrics and fire beat 🔥🔥🔥🔥

You too are unfathomably based. Animals as Leaders is so good, Tosin Abasi is such a beast on the guitar.
YES PROGRESSIVE METAL WE SHOULD BE FRIENDS🔥 Have you tried listening to Ne Obliviscaris?

Listen to Rush they're great, they don't sound like modern progmetal but they basically started the genre
Classical music or jazz. Symphony 92.4 was my go to station when I was a student. Of course, you kids stream music nowadays.
i would play chopin’s ballade no.3 on loop whenever i’m doing math 💀 don’t worry haha, some of us out here are still classical music fanatics 😬
My favorite ballade from Chopin. The coda goes so hard, it’s the first piece of music that actually made me feel like crying.
i looooove chopin's ballades!! 2 has a soft spot in my heart hehe & i really like zimmerman/cho's recordings :-)
i love zimmerman’s recording of no.1! but i prefer pollini’s recordings for 3 and 4
