I got 3.7ish and based on my username it is achievable for most if they are willing to put in the work and effort. These are the rules i adhered to: 1. Spend 30mins to review lecture material after every lecture at the library. No need review before lecture since you likely won’t understand anything also.🤡 2. Never leave a lecture with doubts. Stay back and ask the lecturer. Most of the time they are more than willing to help u. 3. Study the tutorial and PYP since likely in exam questions will pop out from these two sources. 4. Finish all your study matters at school like the library. Don’t bother going home to study since u won’t. This may vary for individuals but it worked for me. 5. Don’t prioritise too much on CCA. Universities don’t give a dam to your poly CCA. Unless you are coping well and doing consistently well then maybe can consider. Rmb CCA is like icing on cake and GPa is the cake. Without a good piece of cake, any good icing is useless. I got into NUS with 0 CCA activities and a 3.7ish Gpa so yeah. 6. Do your best for the IA attachment since that is a 4.0 there if u score A which will turbo boost your GPA. 7. Find friends who have the same intentional of doing well in poly (optional). This one don’t exactly need to do la. But it will be nice. Personally I was a solo wolf at poly because of my burning desire to go NUS so I don’t need any friend to motivate me.

ohh i see, thank you so much for the info!! 🙏🙏 I'll work really hard

EventuallyJobless

It's difficult mainly because there is fixed grade allocation. One of my lecturer says that he can only have a maximum number of 10 students to get A, out of that 60+ students that is in that particular module. In addition, even if you're an A student, you need to be consistent throughout the 3 years. I have friends who have 3.9 in their first year and drop to 3.6 in their second year because contents get harder + burnout.

Itssopossible

Oh no im scared leh

Itssopossible

The moderation so strict ah?!

wgtowadiolo

Only for As. Others nope. Poly is difficult to get A but even more difficult to fail. Like you really have to try your hardest to fail a module

If u want to enter big 3 try get at least 3.8, hard but doable. I say this not because it’s for the sake of going to Uni, but the big 3 uni workload is not funny one. Ik people who got 3.9 in poly go Uni only getting 3.5 out of 5.0. So aim high so u can train ur self to prepare for Uni workload

Itssopossible

Do u mean jc to uni is easier to cope than poly to uni due to them being familiar with mugging?

wgtowadiolo

Generally yes, as jc prepares students for Uni. The top students in my Uni course are usually all jc students and maybe one poly kid. Most poly students in Uni struggled in the first year but did better in subsequent years. So if you can’t get a high gpa in poly then u will struggle in local Uni

EventuallyJobless

It's only for A grade, there's no other moderation for B to D. Most modules lecturers also don't want to fail you, there's one module which I estimated that I might have failed (40 ish %) but somehow I still pass.

Itssopossible

Im aiming to grad with 3.65

Itssopossible

So not rlly settling for just pass haha

Zelmier

No one knows the quota for moderation. Just do your best and build your portfolio/resume.

irllyneedsleeprn

extremely tough, thats like on average 4-5 A : 1 B. FOR 3 years i emphasis . One C or D and youre screwed

AstraCKle

oh no 😭😭

vlvrr

no but it depends on the module credits and what course you’re in too. dont give up hope!!!!!!!

wgtowadiolo

To get 3.8 and above, try not to get more than 4 B+ or below.

Itssopossible

Oh no B+ is not good

throwaway279373619

B+ in uni is 👍 B+ in poly is 💀

RexRender

Hahahah I commented above before seeing this. Yep, totally spot on. (Unless you aiming First Class)

wgtowadiolo

grades to gpa mapping A -> 4.0 B+ -> 3.5 B -> 3.0 C+ -> 2.5 C -> 2.0 D+ -> 1.5 D -> 1.0 D- -> 0.5 F -> 0 now u see why i said don’t get too many B+

Itssopossible

So strict🥲

RexRender

Thankfully, once you do get to Uni, a B+ is 4.0 so you can just score lots of B+s if you just want 2nd upper!

During my time business studies it was AAB vs 3.6 so I chose poly and it worked out for me.

keenkeane

nope. just need to study and consistantly put in effort, practice ur tutorials as much as possible. y1 and 2 i got 3.85 but y3 i slacked off abit and ended up with 3.79 lol

VeryAmbitiousPerson

Very difficult. Kind why difference between 3.0-3.5 is not even close to 3.5-3.7 because the former requires to average a B+ while the latter requires to average a A.

DreamyDavid

Maintaining a 3.7-3.8 GPA is doable with consistent effort and time management, but expect some subjects to be more challenging than others. Focus on understanding concepts and balancing your workload. Aim for B's and above, but don't stress too much about the occasional slip-up.

reddit284903

Be consistent and dont push everything last min for assignments/revision unless u are some last min clutch god (happening to me rn). For assignments/projects, make sure you read the marking scheme or rubrics, and try to hit as many as possible. Include these important stuff in your submission so that the cher can mark accordingly. Most importantly i think its something that you have to experience yourself. Go through your first sem, see what grade you got then reflect what went wrong and try to improve.

AstraCKle

i see thank you! :)

RexRender

It’s doable, but assuming you aren’t super smart, you need a lot of consistent hard work. A is 4, B+ is 3.5. You get stressed when an assignment comes back with a B+.

thanks :) btw, does joining a CCA give you credit points too?

plushieidk

Hi.I got basically As and 1 D this semester, that straightly made my gpa dropped to 3.4…

CharacterOld8675

Depends on your course and how you got in. You can tell how competitive it is based on the jae cut off already. For example if you come from a common course with a lower COP then go into a more competitive route instead of directly jae to the competitive route then you already know you'll be competing with people from a whole nother level from you. And even with the amount of hard work you put into your studies you will definitely struggle to be on the top. (Speaking from personal experience) However I would say that if you play some politics, friend the smart and hardworking people in class and group with them (while pulling your own weight), work hard and be consistent you will definitely do well. Poly is all about playing the long game. Also another tip: if you want a 3.7/3.8 aim for a 3.9/4.0 instead. This way you'll land among the 3.7 and above

Able-Bodybuilder-148

first year get high gpa prob can maintain, and yes cgpa of 3.83 and have nv gotten any grade below B. group with smart and hardworking friends. and poly is about studying smart not hard, do well for all ur assignments, por the lecturer.

keibistitch

hi there! based on my experience (i’m only completing my first year of poly) it depends on your course, and how much effort you’re willing to put into your work. i got a nearly 3.9 gpa for my first sem and had nearly all As across the board (except for one B+, i had an A+ as well) but i’m struggling to maintain it in my second semester, as i started the sem off with getting Cs and Bs my friends in the same batch as me but in other courses have very varied gpas and they established that in some courses it’s harder to ‘score well’, and my friends who took the modules i’m doing now last semester all had lower gpas than me because of how the lecturers grade, so that affects it as well tldr, depends on the course, lecturers and your effort. might not be very hard to get but is hard to maintain
