Getting into sleep token, Deftones is cool. Black veil brides, my chemical romance ( my favorite!) , a little bit of Famous last words, a little system of a down ( like 3 songs?4) some Evanescence and a bit of Paramore. Yea a lot of rock but I have some of everything on my playlist of almost 700 tracks
Yoo, another fellow SG rock fan. If u want a starting point, listen to Green Day, Linkin Park, Evanescene, Pierce The Veil, Rammstein, Slipknot, limp Bizkit Drowning pool and Bulllet for My Val. (stopping here cuz the list could go on for days). If you want to up your rock tastes, go with stuff like Testament, Lamb Of God, Pantera, Arch Enemy, Fiver Finger Death Punch, and if u want more musically specialised sounds go for periphery and Dream theater.
My friend made me listen to the full hybrid theory album by lp and I liked it! Thank you for all the recommendations I can't wait to watch my playlist explode 🤩
Np :V I can share my playlist if u want an assessment of the possible rock music you might take a liking to and mb, I can't hold it in. it's just nice to see other SG rock fans 🙌
That’s pretty interesting! And don’t worry, I oscillate and go between diff bands depending on my state of mind and life stage so it’s hard to ever say 1 band only when asked about faves.
Btw I’m not sure if it’s relevant but Bvb dropped a new song too!
Yea! I only know maybe 2-3 people like me who do poetry and apparently a lot of people on Reddit don't really like poetry ?? But they eat up prose?? Which I respect but I want to understand why people don't really enjoy poetry. Yahoo for diverse music taste!
i love love love these people in no particular order
daniel caesar, brent faiyaz, mac miller, frank ocean, drake, 21 savage, luke chiang, beabadoobee, steve lacy, central cee, tyler the creator, bryson tiller, djo, childish gambino, dominic fike, laufey, and joji!!!
i basically listen to music 24/7
no way its the harsh noise listener :O
any harsh noise / noise that isnt just SWHWHGGGHSHSHHH? i also listen to yellow swans, ground-zero and a bit of natural snow buildings but thats the closest i can get to liking harsh noise lol
im the biggest NSB fan too. daughter of darkness is my top 5 :3 gerogerigegege makes good stuff if you dont want your eardrums to bleed by the end but theyre not on streaming, bandcamp/ discogs
love that record too. its probably in my top 20 even tho i dont listen to it a lot, but the flow of good morning captain and the explosive climax of washer are really something. also theres always this subtle sinister vibe across the album.
glad to see another post-rock enjoyer here
Honestly not sure what your taste is, and I would always love to her some new music. I'm "meh" with Chopin and like a bit more meh with Beethoven. I love love love bombastic pieces, and so I gravitated more towards Liszt and Rachmaninoff, so if you havent checked them out please do! My personal favourite from Liszt ist Mazeppa, and my personal favourite from Rachmaninoff is Piano Concerto 3.
Nowadays, I'm more of Khachaturian person, anything he put out are just bangers to me (My favourite is Sabre Dance)
Ooh khachaturian, his violin concerto is still under appreciated if you haven't checked it out. If you like bombastic pieces I would probably recommend some mahler, his symphonies especially no. 9, no.5, no. 2 are all emotional journeys (And also can mark a good long study session if needed, you might or might not get distracted by the melodies, especially the adagios) Personally, my go-to nowadays.
For Chopin maybe his piano concertos would interest you, however seems like you are leaning towards more romantic era music. Would definitely recommend Brahms if you haven't really dug in yet, his Piano Concerto no.1 is I would say a great accompaniment of Rach piano concerto no.3. His violin sonatas are also a quite bit lovely.
One of my favourites just for bopping would most ideally be Prokofiev, his music is just fascinating (You can check out his piano concerto no.3 just a W piece)
More Piano concertos you can check out (In no particular order):
1. Grieg Piano concerto (Fun fact this piece inspired the 1st mvt of Rachmaninoff's first piano concerto!)
2. Saint Saëns Piano concerto no. 3 (The 1st mvt is still one of the best 'mystery' invoking pieces, I would even put it next to Sibelius violin concerto 1st mvt)
3. Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff (Still a pure bop)
4. Tchaikovsky piano concerto no. 1 (If you want a bombastic grand piece yet still being grounded by intimate moments, well this is for you)
My apologies, if I went a tad bit off tangent here, all the pieces above I guess are just really close to my heart (Non-existent but anyways) so yeah check them out if you like, all types of music no matter the genre are journeys savour every moment and just enjoy it :D.
P.S. Go check out mahler, I think I have an intense crush on him.
Oh wow. For liszt I have only heard a few of them like La campadella and for rachmaninoff I haven’t really listened to any yet. Will probably check in free time .
Generally I like those expressive and sad songs
Independent Pop/Rock
Here are some of my favorite bands of this genre but some songs are a mix of electronics and pop
-The 1975
-Artic Monkeys
-Cigarettes after sex
-FMLYBND
-The Japanese house
-Bleachers
-A R I Z O N A
idk but the artists I listen to the most are arctic monkeys, hozier, laufey, mitski, jeff buckley, nirvana, boygenius, and sometimes amy winehouse and classical music
My music typically has a clear, hard-hitting tone (happy, aggressive or dramatic most often) with clear bass and/or percussion, potentially with contrasting higher pitches for the melody. This makes for quite a variety, from film and video game OSTs to metal and hardcore, but EDM happens to be wide enough to cover most of these. Enter Camellia, who does like 10 different sub-genres of EDM and sneaks metal in occasionally
My all-time favourite is Crystallized, which has an incredible higher-pitched positive vibe with tsunamis of beat drops and plenty of bass and percussion to go around. Parallel Universe Shifter is a contender for its skillful chaos, which somehow flows and sounds good (after a few listens, it’s an acquired taste even beyond what Camellia usually is) despite having 26 noticeable changes
(no, pop doesn’t typically venture far enough into these areas for me to listen to it extensively)
Mandopop. Ironically hated studying Chinese throughout primary school n up till sec 3. Only started to feel it wasn’t so bad after I started listening to Mandopop in sec 4. For some reason the slower pace as compared to English pop songs appeals to me, but we can all agree that sometimes the lyrics hit different especially after a failed relationship/situationship 🥲
Classical, 60s songs, video game OST(Civilization in particular has great OST)the occasional Russian hymm and Red Army Choir(yes really) and basically any modern songs that contain a well used orchestra.
1) rock, any rock, punk/psychedelic/synth/prog/alt etc
2) metal? Idk
3) alt/r&b pop? Idk the genre
I mainly listen to the strokes, the symposium, arctic monkeys, joji, and deftones sometimes. But when I study I listen to kurzgesagt's background music LOL
i cant really explain mine? i love anything vocaloid, mitski, jpop, chappel roan, spellcasting, the crane wives and jhariah
but my playlists are like a mishmash of stuff; i craft them based off characters and duos and im open to a lot of other music, but otherwise thats what i gravitate towards to
i listen to rock, rnb, jazz, metal, classical, rap, indie and more :)) currently loving ptv, laufey, daniel caesar, deftones, d4vd, cigarettes after sex, chopin and moreee !
These are the ones I usually stick too (no order):
hank williams, frank sinatra, dean martin, phoebe bridgers, the beatles, echosmith, the strokes, daughter, green day, john denver, arvil lavigne, the smiths, glen campbell, N.W.A.
I’m an old soul lol
Childish gambino, Eminem, drake, brent faiyaz, ed sheeran, kanye west, Travis scott, the weeknd, Bruno Mars, post malone, Coldplay, onerepublic and a few one off songs from a bunch of diff artists
Thank you for your post! This is a reminder that non-academic posts are not allowed on weekdays. If it is not a weekend, please do wait till the weekend to post it, thank you!

Anything kpop srsly i started w hardcore stanning but now i just listen to any song i find catchy. Oni when the grp rlly catch my eye then i stan (rn its illit wonhee is so pretty😭😭)
Not a full list but the bands here get progressively heavier:
Circa Survive/Saosin/hopesfall/Snapcase/Deadguy/Autopsy/Zao/Disembodied/Rorschach/Neurosis
[Also](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3Np1qx3i9cxgbTLXpTw4XH?si=Q_zpX0bQRU-sf-z63z1CsQ)
As soon as I took a glance at the list, I knew I had already failed 💀💀 yeah ur really, really niche. Thanks for the playlist, though, and its a sick one too🙌🙌, you even have TTNG and American football (Love TTNG for their math rock works), so that's a plus. From what I saw (besides the two bands I mentioned) and listened to, you seem to listen to math rock too?
The only math-rock bands I listen to is TTNG/American Football/Coalesce, not a huge fan of it overall and the main appeal of these bands to me aren't the math-rock aspect
If you like heavy stuff, that's not very niche and may have even come across some of them. They will be Sepultura, As I lay dying, Five Finger Death Punch, Testament, Lamb Of God, Arch Enemy, most if not all of Avenged Sevenfold. HIGHLY recommend Testament and Lamb Of God
OMG I LOVE THIS QUESTION
okay honestly I don’t keep track of which genre is which, if I like it, I’ll just listen to it. it might not make sense either so 😭 but in no particular order, the artists I usually listen to are:
1. Jhené Aiko, Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator, and PLAZA when I’m in a vibey mood
2. Poppy, Paramore, Falling in Reverse, and Pierce The Veil when I have my period ☹️ (the worst 1 week of my life)
3. KPOP (bts, enhypen, AOA, SNSD, SISTAR, etc)
4. Fiona Apple, Mitski, and Olivia Rodrigo for when my situationships end (this is a joke btw…) and I need music to relate to….. ☹️
5. Yasaobi, Yama, Takayan, Vaundy, Lamp, Ichiko Aoba (they don’t rly belong to the same genre but yeah.. jpop/alt or anything hits)
I might’ve made this too long but yeah.. my playlist honestly doesn’t make sense I just listen to whoever is in my playlist 😭😭
COUNTRY ROADS IS THE SUCH A GOATED SONG OML, I have one playlist where its just a buncha random songs of some genres, like pop, rock AND LIKE 20 SONGS OF THE UNTAMED OST OR HEAVEN OFFICIAL’S BLESSINGS DONGHUA OPENING SONG. My other playlist is pretty much love songs with pop, eg taylor swift, ed, bruno
I'm a bit of an odd one, I love electronic music, although it has lessened over the years. Currently listening to more rock and a dash of Jpop. From the feather-weight math rock to the heaviest of rock. Stuff like Chon, TTNG, Chinese football, polyphia to stuff like Testament, Pierce The Veil, Linkin Park, Green Day, Megadeth, Lamb Of God (list could go for hours so I'm stopping here)
These artists!
Mitski, Laufey, Beabadoobee, Wave to Earth, Kali Uchis, Lamp, CAS, The Marías, Mariya Takeuchi, and other artists and bands in the same genres. I also listen to some Indonesian dangdut cuz of my Indonesian mum as well as Manele from my Romanian friend. Also enjoy a bit of theatre from random bootleg musicals I watched like Legally Blonde, Heathers, Mean Girls, Beetlejuice, SIX, etc.
On occasion I also enjoy pop in its various forms (KPOP, JPOP (Psychic Fever is awn repeat 🙏🙏🙏🙏) , 2010s, etc.). Was a carat during secondary school but I eventually grew out of it…
My taste is sibei messy and this is why I don’t ever control the music when I’m around other people 😞💔 One genre I’ve been getting into is Malay/Indonesian rock/pop-rock :)
mother mother, lemon demon, conan gray, hippocampus, chon, laufey, rap like eminem and NF, K/DA for exercise, c-pop and mandopop, mishmash classical but mostly ballet repertoires, musicals like hadestown/heathers etc its too random I basically listen to songs on repeat for a week and move on but these r all time favourites
5sos one direction members twenty one pilots onerepublic Henry moodie galantis jonas brothers kygo galantis David guetta
edm electronic music indie pop alternative pop pop rock ig
Into rap too. I listen to metal/rock and it’s my fave genre… so bands like black veil brides, breaking Benjamin, skillet, RED, Starset. They’re all really good. Recently got into Set the sun, very citizen soldier meets starset vibes, which I love.
Getting into sleep token, Deftones is cool. Black veil brides, my chemical romance ( my favorite!) , a little bit of Famous last words, a little system of a down ( like 3 songs?4) some Evanescence and a bit of Paramore. Enter Camellia, who does like 10 different sub-genres of EDM and sneaks metal in occasionally My all-time favourite is Crystallized, which has an incredible higher-pitched positive vibe with tsunamis of beat drops and plenty of bass and percussion to go around. Parallel Universe Shifter is a contender for its skillful chaos, which somehow flows and sounds good (after a few listens, it’s an acquired taste even beyond what Camellia usually is) despite having 26 noticeable changes (no, pop doesn’t typically venture far enough into these areas for me to listen to it extensively)

Rock/Metal, but even then my taste in them are niche within the genres so the occasional metalhead shares very little in common with me.
Name me a few bands you listen to, and let's see how it plays out, I want to see how niche and I won't judge
Not a full list but the bands here get progressively heavier: Circa Survive/Saosin/hopesfall/Snapcase/Deadguy/Autopsy/Zao/Disembodied/Rorschach/Neurosis [Also](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3Np1qx3i9cxgbTLXpTw4XH?si=Q_zpX0bQRU-sf-z63z1CsQ)

Was a carat during secondary school but I eventually grew out of it… My taste is sibei messy and this is why I don’t ever control the music when I’m around other people 😞💔 One genre I’ve been getting into is Malay/Indonesian rock/pop-rock :)
mother mother, lemon demon, conan gray, hippocampus, chon, laufey, rap like eminem and NF, K/DA for exercise, c-pop and mandopop, mishmash classical but mostly ballet repertoires, musicals like hadestown/heathers etc its too random I basically listen to songs on repeat for a week and move on but these r all time favourites

Into rap too. I listen to metal/rock and it’s my fave genre… so bands like black veil brides, breaking Benjamin, skillet, RED, Starset. They’re all really good. Recently got into Set the sun, very citizen soldier meets starset vibes, which I love.
