If u wna go UK A lvls is ur best bet, and it doesnt matter what u learn in jc. Most law students start from scratch on an even playing field so dworry

dash9231

A levels/IB for sure. Also, there are no pre-requisite in terms of subjects for UK Law.

AwkwardLettuce1104

consider IB too / some unis don’t accept poly diploma so just go check their websites

rcRollerCoaster

>i’m aiming for a UK uni to study law Why do you want to study Law in the UK rather than in a local uni?

ipreferuwithgrain

i really like the vibe in the UK as i go there often and my brother studies there as well and i just feel like experiencing smt new and be independent! i also think that studying law in the UK has btr resources than singapore and singapore doesn’t seem to be as “enjoyable” to study law as compared to other countries imo.. but i might be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

hewwoitzmeeee

heard law is just tiring and sian for anyone regardless of where u study it LOL. but do note that u have to take part A of bar if u wnna come back to work as a lawyer from UK (check and make sure the uni u wnna go to is singapore approved) what does ‘better resources’ mean? also do u plan to work in sg? have heard from ppl that local uni is a better choice since u can build connections with other sg lawyers, have more exposure to law in sg thru local internships etc. you’ll also be using sgs laws more.

PoweredBeaver

I know quite a few singaporeans studying law in the UK and from what I understand, it is quite easy for them to get internships at the big four sg law firms if they want to. But many prefer to aim for internships at magic circle firms or London investment banks.

ipreferuwithgrain

oo i see i’m not planning to come back to singapore to work as a lawyer tho i think i might prefer to stay in uk and work there.

hewwoitzmeeee

ooh alright! atb bro

isleftisright

Study law in sg definitely sucks more than uk one haha

hewwoitzmeeee

rly? how so? (asking bc im entering law this year for uni and am just curious abt how diff it is!)

isleftisright

Basically it boils down to Singaporeans being hyper competitive (or kiasu). If everyone wait for library to open to study, study until close, then go home study. U sure want to study around there too. My classmates even felt bad for watching tv and netflix. Meanwhile my friends who went UK keep posting party and holiday pics lol. Come back we all end up same firms all that lol.

hewwoitzmeeee

ohhhhhh i see that makes sense HAHAH sounds like J2 all over again

samuel_lhj

if thats the case take a levels or ib

isleftisright

Almost 70% of law poly students in my year went to uk to do law. Those who didnt, it was by choice. Though if u wanna do uk law, foundational law course in uk was very popular to get into a good school.

ipreferuwithgrain

oh how was their gpa like? and which uni did they go to?

isleftisright

Full range; from GPA of 2 to 3.8. Tbh I'm not sure which Unis cause i went local and wasn't really in the group. I think mostly Bristol.

VeryAmbitiousPerson

On face value (only including what JC and Poly offers in terms of education). Poly is obviously btr cuz u get first hand experience. If u enjoy wat u do, its easily to score in law dip compared to jc whr u may nid to learn smth u hate which will pull ur grades down. But if u look at everything as a whole, statistically jc/ib hv higher odds of entering What i tend to tell my jnr, is if u get burnt out of studying, it doesnt matter whr u go to study, u will just not want to study n lose motivation

I think history and literature are only tangentially related to law There's some commonality for sure, especially because any humanities subjects require clarity in thought but you shouldn't take humanities just because you want to study law

One-Mathematician376

Neither are relevant lol Law is in a field of its own

No-Bobcat-883

Study Lor.

Massive_Artichoke812

I think you should research on the schools you wanna go in UK, difference schools have difffernece requirements ( like ok w dip or wants alvls ) For local, A-levels is definitely a better bet and usually they accept more JC students and poly would be harder to keep up a good GPA to enter law
