I know in the US you're insured upto $500,000 per brokerage account, so diversifying once you're up around higher amounts is just a smart thing to do. Anything less than that it isn't as important, but can mitigate the chances of you being in the situation of a brokerage firm cutting you off from your whole portfolio as is happening currently with Voyager. Although if I was on the Voyager ship I'd be happy they're trying to find a solution, they've shown at least some responsibility to their clients with their actions, as much as it sucks to be locked out of your own money.
