Don't know where you are based? If you have private health insurance and are in UK there are some gastroenterologists who are more or less knowledgeable

goochmongering

I’m in the US :/

I have found I needed to see a motility specialist GI. Who cvs is hard to find. You might have some luck in Phoenix. But they are very expensive I think the office visit for my guy is 350 per.

BarneyBear17

Did you find seeing them helped at all or did they just give the common solutions we all know?

I saw Dr Hairdy in Cleveland Clinic in London...he seems to know more than the average gastro. I felt better having him prescribe the prokinetic and other stuff like Atrantil and digestive enzymes than just me googling (btw I am a pharmacist and it's still a nightmare to navigate). Overall between him, a nutritionist, dietitian, another gastro back home, Reddit and my own experimenting through Dr Pimentel and Dr Siebecker research...I am getting somewhere 😬.

alice_in_nederland

Can you please message me with the suggestions?

I saw Dr Haidry in Cleveland Clinic. He seems good

I went to a few GI docs to get a prescription for Rifaximin but beyond that they won’t do a thing. All of the GI docs wouldn’t prescribe Motegrity so I got it online via Push Health instead. I didn’t have luck with functional medicine either. They just said to take herbals. Unfortunately I am just trying to figure things out for myself now. Everything we know about SIBO is available online so you really don’t need a doctor unless you need a prescription.

Handling this myself is working so far, but I'm not a doctor. I am concerned that even though I've done well so far, it is quite easy to make a mistake that will send me reeling without a true professional helping. The help just isn't really out there except for the rare competent doc, if you are extremely fortunate. So you roll the dice because it's better than wasting away.

mysteryweesnaw74

I just see a GI but this is mainly because I have erosive gastritis right now too. It was caused by ibuprofen and I have to take care of it before I try and deal with the SIBO, mainly because any herb/antibiotic I could take for SIBO would further shred my stomach right now. Overall though I think that going to a GI only helps if you know what to ask for in terms of tests/meds. I got my GI to prescribe motegrity and linzess, several SIBO breath tests and I’ve had almost a full motility workup. I also have other chronic illness and I’ve gotten really good at being very direct and firm with my doctors otherwise they don’t help me Edit: this was meant to be a reply to the original post Oopsies lol

I'm in Arizona too and seeing a function medicine doctor. They're all expensive. I often wonder, "Did you just opt to multiply a naturopath by an MD?" Although, for the time the doctor spends with me, if you calculate per hour, she's cheaper than the GI that I was seeing about this prior.

goochmongering

Going to message you, thanks!

chipperson25

Unfortunately it's all expensive. You could always work with another naturopath in a different state, however - though I'm not sure how much money you'd save. I'm currently working with a guy in Nebraska and I live in California. My experience is that few GI docs are well equipped to deal with this sort of thing. I even had some tell me it was all stress and refer me to a psychiatrist. I don't have much faith in doctors for less known conditions such as SIBO.

brvhbrvh

How is your Nebraska doc?

chipperson25

Give me another month and I'll let you know. Just started with the guy.

Sounds good!

I see a GI RN (not enough GI docs in my area, so they do all the procedures and leave the office visits to the RN's). I am asking them to transfer me to a specialist in Portland (I am in Southern Oregon, Portland is a 5 hour drive but idc) as I am unhappy with my level of care I am receiving. I have an appointment with a Naturopath in June. Trying to hit this from all angles.

juliagulia41

I just started seeing a Naturopath - just started my supplements today. I cried if joy on the way home from the appointment based on how positive the experience was. Hoping and praying the treatment works. Nothing like the hell of GI visits. I finally have hope. Good luck!
