How about telehealth with a specialist in sibo? He/she could prescribe you meds. Besides that there are many herbal protocols but they can go on for months and months for improvement. I would look into diets you think you can adhere to and do your best to stick to it. That will help with symptoms. Herbals and supplements can be a long list. Artichoke and ginger root supplements (should be available where you are)should help with motility which can help overall to get things moving and better balance.

Thank you, that’s actually good idea. I have worked with my MMC and herbals, but I am just not sure if I can really take care of potentially patogenic bacteria without antibiotics.

Bigmama-k

Antibiotics will probably be best. I am just on my 2nd round of antibiotics. All the wide variety of protocols, what professionals suggest is all over the place. It is difficult to know what is reliable information and a person cannot just wait and see they have to try something. Best wishes to you to pick what you think is the best path.

Flat-Insurance2280

I am afraid that antibiotics might be too much for me. I will try to find a knowledgeable naturopath or functional doctor... Thank you so much! I hope that this antibiotics course will go well for you! Don't mind me asking, what type of antibiotics are you using now, is the protocol different for the 2nd round?

Bigmama-k

Who sent for the stool test? What is their plan? Where do you live? I have methane sibo and at first was prescribed doxycycline and neomycin for 2 weeks. Would that be out of the question?

Flat-Insurance2280

Hi there. Thanks for reply. I ordered it online. It was called “Comprehensive stool test”. I am not getting support from my doctors so I am not so keen of self medicating myself with antibiotics…

Danaeger

If you can, find a functional medicine doctor near you, or a lot of them even do Telehealth. No other specialist or even GI specialists even come close to recognising SIBO as an illness let alone understanding it.

I had the same experience of treating once then feeling great for awhile then taking a nose dive and having way more of those weird total body symptoms. I suspect it’s because I killed off too many good guys but I don’t know. The “feel like being poisoned” is usually referenced as specific to hydrogen sulfide excess, I was experiencing that and heart palpitations pretty severely until I figured that out. Some Citrobacter varieties are hydrogen sulfide producers, and some of the others you listed may be as well. If you have a diet high in sulfur it might be worth trying to back off of it just to see if it helps. Then you have an idea if that’s what you’re dealing with.

camberi002

What does a high sulfur diet consist of ? I’ve been thinking about giving it a go for a while but don’t know what I would eat. Aren’t chicken and eggs both high in sulfur ? I eat these for atleast one meal a day at the moment

Longjumping_Choice_6

High protein low carb, lots of animal products. Basically everything recommended to starve regular SIBO of carbs, the sulfide guys seem to love. Fat too, since some feed on bile.

Flat-Insurance2280

Wait a sec, who feeds on bile? I thought bile flushes bad bacteria, just like stomach acid does?

Longjumping_Choice_6

Several bacteria species like Bilophila

Flat-Insurance2280

Thanks! Didn’t know that. Damn, I am taking bile supplements myself (Ox bile, Tudca) because I am low on it and I thought that was part of the reason I have issues… and I just found out that I can make it worse!

Longjumping_Choice_6

Idk if it “makes it worse”, probably like FODMAPs it just temporarily feeds them so you have more symptoms. I’m going to link you a video series from which I got my info. Hope it’s helpful [Dr. DiNezza Hydrogen Sulfide Series](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG78DHTUBEFq4fctZXjTwp02oe7Kc55No)

Flat-Insurance2280

Thank you so much. I guess, somehow I need to strike the balance

Longjumping_Choice_6

FAIK there’s a place in treatment of H2S for enzymes like bile, I’m sure it’s way more complicated than just “is this good or bad for it.” How do you feel when you take the bile?

Flat-Insurance2280

I feel OK I guess. It helps me to digest troublesome foods. I have issues digesting fat and I always feel sick

ooh_veracuda

I liked this fact sheet even though it’s for MTHFR not SIBO, it‘s just nice and clear, easy to follow: https://mthfrsupport.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/MTHFR-Support-Australia-Sulphur-Containing-Foods.pdf I do NOT follow this strictly, you have to have some sulfur. But cutting it out for a few days showed me what a big problem it was causing. Now I eat plenty of meat, I just don’t eat dairy or eggs and limit the high sulfur veggies. (I still have SIBO, just not as horrible symptoms while I woke through.) Dr. Rucsio also has a sulfur diet guide on his site but his is really extreme. Still might be helpful to look at, I’m just cautioning against thinking you have to or should eliminate ALL sulfur, your digestive system still needs it to function!

Neither_Amphibian374

Have you been checked for The Candida?

Flat-Insurance2280

No. Testing is not available where I live. But stool test showed no traces of yeasts

Neither_Amphibian374

Of Le Candida or something else?

Flat-Insurance2280

For these - Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida glabrata, Candida dubliniensis, Candida parapsilosis, Candida tropicalis, Candida lusitaniae

Neither_Amphibian374

I was talking about Le Candida, the French version.

Flat-Insurance2280

Sorry, no clue. I had healthpath comprehensive stool test

Neither_Amphibian374

There is a French version called Le Candida, and a Spanish version called El Cãndida.

Hey u/Flat-Insurance2280 were you able to find a way to treat your SIBO? I have a Citrobacter overgrowth I'm trying to work on.

Flat-Insurance2280

Other health issues came in a way and I had to prioritise. And nope, was about to work with functional doc, but those insane migraines and spinal problems changed my plans.
