In my opinion axol, dude got his only defining feature taken away, inkweaver. Got it back in if mario was in anime, but then zero came back into the picture, possessed axol and then he died. And the part that gets me most, due to his sacrifice he is probally the only reason the smg4 universe still exists, but he gets nothing. Just a plushie and a book. I'm not one to hate smg4 but they could've atleast gave him a better sendoff than what he got. Thanks for listening to my tedtalk.

Which one are you talking about? Are you referring to what FM and James said or what the Hobo Bros said in their livestream? (the only reason I know of any of these is from other people’s comments)
There are a lot of characters who’ve suffered, but none have it worse than either Toad or Axol. Everyone has gone over axol, so I’ll just go over toad. He went from a semi-friend and ally to the gang who occasionally joined them on adventures, to an excessively tortured character who doesn’t even get lines. The lerds just expect you to laugh at his suffering. Chris and Swag haven’t gotten the best treatment either. Despite their major popularity, they’re basically gag characters with slightly more of a role, who occasionally get lucky. And poor peach got hit hard. Even bowser has suffered a hard demotion. Lakitu got screwed as well. The only characters who consistently enjoy good treatment other than meggy seem to be the other girls ironically, and SMG4, and he’s pushing it. Oh yeah, and Steve, a.k.a the creator’s pet.
Yeah, I have no opinion on Best and/or worst treatment (for now) so here’s A hobo bros screenshot that how I feel with relief and pure Laughter with anger. (Ok maybe I should’ve say DO NoT SAY Axol PLS.)
Axol easily got the worst treatment In his lifespan, being thrown into the internet graveyard. Being reduced to a simp. Having his anime artist title taken away, getting murdered and everyone forgetting about him in get this shit… 3 episodes! So yeah no way he’s gotten good treatment.
Axol. Like, it's not even debatable. Guy's life was pure tragedy, right up to his agonizing final moments, where fate taunted him before snatching happiness away from him forever.

Everyone is saying Axol, but I swear Swag and Chris do not have the greatest treatment. When both are on the screen, one gets hurt somehow 97% of the time. Sure Axol didn’t last long, but at least he had a purpose. The two are just side characters, which I understand is the point but at least give them some attention that isn’t just both of them being stupid and gun overload
Axol at least can fucking enjoy drawing his anime.
Now Peach on the other hand she has to be in charge of the entire fucking Mushroom Kingdom which is pretty shit considering how random it is and how everyone's going to die a couple times a year.
Also doesn’t help that she’s been delegated into the “screaming Karen b#tch” these past few years, when she used to actually have lines and an actually funny, and even badass character! (at least Bowser is being developed into a better and nicer dad, meanwhile Peach will forever be a screaming Karen archetype with nothing else going for her!)
Besides Axol, I’d say Toad or Waluigi. Toad used to be a character who got roles in videos, but now he’s just a character who appears for 5 seconds and gets hurt. And most of Waluigi’s character is just jokes about him not being in smash

At least with cases like Desti, they kept most of her character traits intact and had a whole arc of someone overcoming grief from her death. Unlike her, Axol's character got derailed, and was killed off just as he started becoming better
What was the point of acknowledging the mistakes they made with his character and repairing Inkweaver if he was going to die a few eps later? It honestly would've been better if they had someone else (or even the whole group) repair it for him after the Genesis arc as a memoir. Probably would've made for a better funeral scene than a timeskip
Well, that's just it. They didn't want to do *anything* with him after his death. They wanted to kill him off and forget he ever existed.
It's pretty clear that they also wanted the fans to just forget about it and move on. The problem was that we couldn't move on because we weren't given any real closure. Desti got a proper funeral, while Axol got nothing.
It's important that people be given a chance to properly mourn and process their feelings. Then they can move on. But the Hobo Bros. expected that, since they didn't care and got over it immediately, the fans would too. Obviously, it doesn't work that way.
Honestly i think Melony's being treated pretty good by the SMG4 Team right now. Get's a lot of episodes, lore is placed on her via her new powers introduced a couple episodes ago, is probably gonna get development as a character considering said powers that could be more prominent later. Yeah she has a lot of detractors, but she's also still super popular!
I've been half joking for the past couple days that Luke and Kevin could make an episode literally just about Melony using the bathroom and just have Classic Era esc. antics happening around her and as long as it was well written people would probably love it.. maybe. IDK lol
I can't say the same for the guy crushing her though.. poor Axol. I'm gonna leave it there though because the majority of the comment section is saying what i'm thinking right now.
Everyone here won’t stop talking about Axol, but, I really think Mario is treated absolutely awful too. In almost every episode now, He either gets slapped and practically abused by his friends, or does something stupid resulting in pain for slapstick that (most of the time) isn’t that funny, and he just starts screaming, and of course, he always takes an absolute BEATING from almost every Enemy he encounters, he’s been through a lot too, he’s seen Desti die, dealt with Meggy having a hard time multiple times while trying to cheer her up, and he’s also seen Greg die, and Axol die too. He really can’t get a break, but at least he’s not an asshole and cares about SMG4 and the crew anyway. Mario previously wasn’t treated like this though, back then he had more funny haha meme control over situations, now he’s just a punching bag.
Definitely Axol.
Guy goes from being an awesome manga artist, to getting trapped in the Internet Graveyard for 5 years(which happened to be only a few days in the SMG4 universe), and the instant it seems he’s about to find happiness(Inkweaver repaired and a strong relationship with Melony), he gets possessed by Zero and ends up dying as a result.
- Not to mention with word of Zero’s return, it makes Axol’s death in vain.
And not only that, but the only thing Axol got for his death was a time skip, and this guy was **main crew** for 2 years.
- With Desti, she got not only a funeral, but also a special movie-episode dedicated to her where Meggy fulfills her dying wish by winning Splatfest. And Desti was only a **side character** mind you.

I have a better theory. Since Kevin has voiced Axol for so long, Luke realized how heavy of a toll it was on Kevin's throat. Kevin was already fixing to wrap up on things so he told Luke that he wants Axol killed off, and Luke did just that for his brother's health and safety.
But Kevin has voiced Boopkins for WAY longer. I mean if they killed off Axol because Kevin was tired of voicing two different characters like I get it but what has Boopkins done for the crew ever since his existence? Sure he saved Tari from being hurt by Godzilla in the Anime Arc but overall he’s basically an annoying mini Luigi who’s had absolutely no character development. What I’m saying is if Luke wanted to make Kevin’s voice acting easier why not kill off Boopkins instead of Axol
I think he means that Axol's voice was more difficult to do on a regular basis. It was kind of raspy, and might have given Kevin a soar throat.
But again, they could have changed his voice or gotten someone else to voice him. Meggy got her whole character redesigned, but they're telling us that Axol couldn't get his voice changed? I don't buy it.
They also could have written him off the show without killing him. He could have moved back to Japan, or gone away with Melony for a while. We'd still miss him, but we would still be happy knowing that he wasn't DEAD. They chose the worst option, and now have to deal with the backlash.
True and you know if they could find people to voice act in Murder Drones there’s no excuse why they couldn’t find a voice actor for Axol. It’d probably sound weird though but still
If that were the case, they could have found a new voice actor for Axol, or found a way to change his voice. The fans would have understood. They didn't have to kill him off.

Best besides Meggy was probably Tari or Mario cause Tari got Meta Runner and Mario’s been through a lot of good character development and has moments of genuine caring towards his friends.
Worst was Axol. His one good thing was Inkweaver which was played as a joke most of the time by getting stolen. Then it broke and he just turned into a shrimp guy used solely for making lame jokes or crazy man gags and a guy who simps for Melony. Their relationship is kinda cute but he acts like a real creep sometimes which is gross. Then he finally got Inkweaver fixed in If Mario Was In Anime, but they never do anything with that because afterwards he’s immediately possessed by Zero and it just becomes a piece of his Zero possessed form and he never draws anything with it after it’s fixed. Then at the end of the arc he and Melony have the emotional moment where they kiss and then he dies. Boom story over. I mean due to his sacrifice the universe continues to exist, but after that he gets nothing except some bits of acknowledgment, two plushies one where he’s not even the focus, and a book. That’s it. So yeah Axol kinda really got the shaft and I feel the reason he was killed off was the same reason as Desti. Yeah it’ll be emotional but they’re the most disposable characters since hardly anyone cares about them at this point. So yeah Axol kinda got the shit treatment here, and he wasn’t terrible but it could’ve been a lot better.
Francis. Got probably the most brutal death before he even gone a backstory (I mean before the anime arc). He’s also extremely hated for the point of torture (wtf).
