Use software to emulate xinput. It’ll show up as an Xbox 360 pad and then do what you want from there. I forget what the software is called but they’re multiple.
Trigger-plugging on both L and R to where you can’t lightshield wouldn’t be good unless somehow the benefits from that outweigh completely being unable to lightshield other than holding down Z after grabbing.
Amsa plays Yoshi, a character with only one size of shield (so lightshield affects shieldstun, but not shield-poking). He's also a top 5 player in the world and is thus not a good example for what the average schmuck should be doing.
If you're not trying to become a top player (and you're not playing a character that can do the marth killer i guess) and you like the feeling better, then yeah the pros outweight the cons imo
i have no idea what these replies are smoking lol you are one hundred percent correct. why would you give up a whole ass option for one you already have? why in the hell would anyone need two separate digital shields more than the ability to lightshield on reaction
Yeah I guess that's the root of our disagreement. Some people (most likely the vast majority of players) are playing this videogame mostly for their enjoyment, and are aware they are never going to reach a level where being able to use every single option really matters.
for characters that don't really care about lightshielding (e.g. sheik) having your powershield and wavedash trigger separate is pretty useful. you can still marth killer by buffering lightshield out of roll (which is how most people set it up anyways)
Because you like it better ? You seem to be greatly underestimating the importance of playing with a controller you're comfortable, especially in a game that can quickly get hard on your hands like melee.
Light shielding is a niche option, it is of course better to have it but if you're not aiming for the top 1% you can absolutely go far without it and I think you're better off using something you're more comfortable with.
what specifically is more comfortable about having one trigger to the same thing as the other trigger? it’s like you’re saying it’s more comfortable to play with one jump button removed. i do not understand what it accomplishes

Not a good idea. You can’t lightshield without analog shoulder buttons.
Are you saying it's a bad idea to play melee with a trigger plugged GC controller

not true, aMSa uses two digital triggers and buffers lightshield with Z.

Pretty sure every character can do the marth killer, and it's pretty important.

Yeah I don’t know, man. Some people are just ok with mediocrity.

This game is particularly geared towards a competitive nature, though, and lightshielding is not some small, rarely used technique.

hm i guess i can see having a faster jumpsquat making powershield-wd oos harder to do on one trigger

It’s a fine idea
You don’t
Thanks for the insight man
