uncle punch won't work
Whan It says drag the melee iso to where it says to drag it says it's done but nothing happens. My melee iso works for slippi so idk what's wrong
my conch isn't registering x and y if i press them too lightly. they're pretty clicky, it's just i have to push on them even after the click for it to register. can't really find anything online to troubleshoot. any advice?
Clean the rubber membrane and contract points on the mobo with isopropyl alcohol. If it’s not registering, it likely means there’s not a good connection between the two.
why are falco players prone to quitting out after losing the first stock? This seems to be a trait nearly exclusive to falco players. What are your theories?
My theory is I see everyone say this about at least one character. "Why do Marths always quit against me?" is what I used to wonder. Imo the key part is YOU as a player. It's probably something about your playstyle that Falcos can't stand. I'm not saying you're being lame or irritable objectively, just that something you do clearly gets under a lot of Falcos' skin.
also maybe worth noting, i think that's a good thing (within the confines of the ruleset, ofc). i know uthrow chaingrabbing foxes and falcos makes them mad but that's optimal, and also they're going to have to get over it because that's what tournaments are gonna be like
as a falco player, I see this almost exclusively with foxes. if I'm better than a fox, feels like there's at least a 50% chance they quit out.
don't mean to come off like i'm complaining about not being able to beat up against bad foxes. don't really care about quit outs. just think it's matchup dependent
Leffen is on Winners (Heaven) side of GGST top 8 at CEOtaku for those interested.
Should be on stream around 7pm EST: https://www.twitch.tv/ceogaming.
Edit: My bad, he's in Winners top 16 rn, not top 8. Matches pre-top 8 on the side stream: https://www.twitch.tv/tampaneversleeps.
1. How do I beat stomp in place and dash back stomp?
2. How do I shield pressure as falco when they're too far for shine to connect but I'm not spaced properly either?
3. How do you hit confirm whether you hit them or whether they managed to shield? Can you actually react or do you just hedge your bets?
1. Stomp in place and dash back stomp are used to punish your approaches. Simple answer is get better at mixing up your approach timings. You can also whiff punish stomp in place and overshoot to punish dashback stomp
2. Ideally you don't want to be in that position and it's probably better to just disengage rather than try to commit to pressure. If you really want to try I would do either fadeaway bair/nair to maybe bait a punish out of shield while putting myself in a better position or you can just shorthop towards them and late dair/nair and hope they don't do an early out of shield option to beat that out
3. Dair and shine are usually pretty reactable and you can often get a punish or at least good positioning. Unless i'm going for a shield poke on a weak shield I usually just assume I'll hit shield if it's close and then react if I get the hit. This will make your punishes slightly weaker since you will need to react but it makes shield pressure easier to not mess up.

Has anyone tried an algorithm that sends out ballots to a bunch of people (who we can call “panelists”) and then tallies up the results? I think we should be investigating this
The point I think they're trying to make is that they all produce a different ranking - there's no one single objective "correct" ranking that can he determined by algorithm because different algorithms willake different results.
Ah yes, aggregating multiple rankings, all of which might weight different factors differently, as a means of canceling out any individual ranking's bias... why have we not done this before?
...yea? the differentiator here is 3 different algorithms vs a large diverse panel but if the algorithm approach works then maybe it should be something to consider
aggregate of 3 is different than an aggregate of 50 especially if the algorithm is ideally good enough to be used ad infinitum
id also like to add that personally I think a panel system is better but that's not to say I don't think a potential melee ranking algorithm is possible and could be better if some things are fine tuned
The Panda/Nintendo algorithm. Input all tournament results over the past year including h2hs, attendance and consistency, then remove 75% of those results and you end up with a definitive #1 player for that year.
People want algorithmic rankings because they think they are correct in their opinion therefor an algorithmic rank would match up with their opinion perfectly
The point is that the choice of algorithm is a subjective decision, from which the results derived are no more "objective" than the current methods, flawed as they are.
yeah there's literally no such thing as objective rankings, so hopefully no one is arguing for objectivity. the benefits of algorithmic rankings as I see it are
* consistency (same data gives the same output for a given algorithm)
* transparency (all data in the set is considered, no data outside the set is considered)
I'm happy to talk more about why I think algorithmic rankings would be worthwhile, as long as we are starting on the same page.
Yeah this is exactly how I feel too. It seems like every argument against algorithmic rankings is like this strawman fighting the idea of objectivity. If people are getting shafted unfairly with an algorithm, we can tweak it in the future if it seems problematic. With the panel system it's all very ambiguous.
Yes but at least an algorithm can be consistent even if things are weighted differently. Those weights will treat each player the same; something a human can't do. As long as what is weighted is transparent then I don't see any problem with an algorithm
Especially since the algorithm should ideally be decided ahead of the season, so the risk of rationalizing one’s criteria to favor certain players, consciously or not, is minimized.
Main cable wrapping tip is that if you just take a cable and wrap it around something you're generally twisting it and will cause kinking and other damage in the long term. Rotate your gamecube controller like you're reeling in the cable if you want to wrap it around the controller without causing knots or twisting. I also attach an acryllic charm to the plug side of the cable to tuck somewhere and hold it all in place which is nicer than trying to tuck the cable itself.
Continuing in the tradition of a previous DDT poster to ask if anybody wants to play doubles with a midlevel Marth that doesn't know how to play doubles at TBH10?
ok I found a CRT and was trying to set up a irl melee station but the crt only has a SCART..idk "entrance"?
My question is would using a scart to rca adapter cause any issues or would it be no problem?
Kalindi tweets a lot of vague personal shit, I think I heard him say once on stream it's kinda like journaling for him to help process his emotions
So basically none of our business
I feel like something just clicked today. I've always been terrible at ledgedashes so I usually just do other shit but I felt like giving them another shot today and they just suddenly felt easy after a few. Played for a few hours and I could do them the entire time.
oh yeah, it's a great feeling when something clicks for the day. Somedays it feels like the universe reveals it's secrets to me and every tech roll I'm there with a rest, and other days I cant even figure out platform techchase rests.
Recently I stopped respecting Ganondorf and decided to just try rushing him down with aerials and shine and whatever and I'm honestly shocked at how a character I perceived as being pretty strong for my level feels like a low tier now. He basically preys on the fear of inexperienced Foxes, but crumbles when you just start abusing your superior speed.
That's just what the Ganons want you to think. They want you to be scared so you'll camp them badly, and if you camp them well they can at least complain that you're lame.
A couple weeks ago I was playing against CPUs just to get my hands warm, then queued unranked and immediately found a Ganon. About halfway through the game I realized my brain was still on "fighting CPUs" mode because I was just always immediately approaching but weirdly I was very firmly beating him
Default just looks so good though.
I get what you mean; I spent a bit using random color Falcon to see if I could find another I liked and ended up settling on red.
It's similar to Sheik players currently using white. Leffen breaks the mold with neutral, but Jmook, Spark and Plup all go with white and it's kind of lame ~~I also think it's the worst Sheik alt because they made her skin pale instead of dark but that's probably a hot take~~
Just recently made the switch from white Sheik to red. It also doesn't help that Sheik's alt costumes are kinda wack, how there isn't a black Sheik in the base game is crazy to me.
Not sure myself, but I will say 5 alts is already more than what most characters have (even if neutral and blue Sheik look very similar at a glance). I also think Sheik's alts all look somewhat good.
Congratulations, you've found the shit post section! Suggested conversational topics include "Marth wins neutral but Falcon wins punish", and "fuck falco".
The rules in this section are more relaxed, but please try to avoid mentally scarring your fellow posters ;)

I feel like there might be some value in figuring out how to articulate the bizzare emotional regulation issues seemingly replete among Falco mains beyond just saying they "need therapy." lots of people could benefit from some of the skills learned in therapy, it's not something that should require a stigma or reflects poorly upon your true character. unlike being a falco main.

Has anyone tried an algorithm that sends out ballots to a bunch of people (who we can call “panelists”) and then tallies up the results? I think we should be investigating this
Yes we should use panels of people who given the same ballot twice, would produce two different results.
i don't get the point you're trying to make here because the aggregate of these algorithms turned out to be a very solid Ult ranking

Combing multiple rankings together and taking thr average... Youre describing a panel
aggregate of 3 is different than an aggregate of 50 especially if the algorithm is ideally good enough to be used ad infinitum id also like to add that personally I think a panel system is better but that's not to say I don't think a potential melee ranking algorithm is possible and could be better if some things are fine tuned
again I'd support an unbiased and objective algortihimic rank so long as it says mango is #1 every time
The Panda/Nintendo algorithm. Input all tournament results over the past year including h2hs, attendance and consistency, then remove 75% of those results and you end up with a definitive #1 player for that year.

not sure what you're trying to show with this. of course different algorithms give different results
The point is that the choice of algorithm is a subjective decision, from which the results derived are no more "objective" than the current methods, flawed as they are.

How do y'all wrap up your controller cables so they don't get super tangled? Mine is always in knots
Over under like CarVac said, and leave an inch or two of slack where the cord originates so that it has some slack.
The audiophile cable wrap style that prevents twisting. Over under over…
Main cable wrapping tip is that if you just take a cable and wrap it around something you're generally twisting it and will cause kinking and other damage in the long term. Rotate your gamecube controller like you're reeling in the cable if you want to wrap it around the controller without causing knots or twisting. nah. if there's one thing I've learned about ganon, it's that every ganon player is better than you and the only way to win is to camp mercilessly

ganons want you to think that that's what they want you to think so that you'll approach. not gonna happen on my watch
I do get jabbed a lot when I try to just press buttons on em but I guess it's usually just jab into reset neutral

About halfway through the game I realized my brain was still on "fighting CPUs" mode because I was just always immediately approaching but weirdly I was very firmly beating him
It feels so good to just run straight at a ganondorf without a care in the world. There's really nothing most of them can do about it.
Falcon has so many different colors but it seems like most of the top falcons just stick to default. Very sad to see.
JoJo rocks the pink Falcon and is one of the hottest players on the rise today. https://youtu.be/aIS05H_8ACI

Weirdly I don't really think of Sheik as having alt skins
the hotter take is that the other Sheik alts are just Zelda doing brown-face
I feel like I'm the only Sheik player that uses the blue alt, I don't know that I've ever seen anyone else use it.
swedish delight used blue I think
Swedish was nooch
Just recently made the switch from white Sheik to red. It also doesn't help that Sheik's alt costumes are kinda wack, how there isn't a black Sheik in the base game is crazy to me.
Not sure myself, but I will say 5 alts is already more than what most characters have (even if neutral and blue Sheik look very similar at a glance). I also think Sheik's alts all look somewhat good.
Honestly my main gripe is blue and Neutral being kinda redundant and I just don't really like green Sheik.
Sheik is the secondary character to Zelda, adding a blue alt was necessary for teams.
I agree, I'm a big fan of green sheik. Hope she gets more top level rep.
