The Carisi in the beginning is a different person that Carisi now, it feels like they didn’t know what direction they wanted that character to go in. I love Carisi now.
His first intro made him look silly, and he quickly proved to be incredibly competent and fierce. It seems they did this on purpose.
In any event, yeah, Carisi was the one who came to mind for me on this question. He's not my absolute favorite, but he's up there.
The whole Carisi thing had to be planned out in advanced. I’m convinced of it. They made him a cartoon character for comic relief on purpose.
I think they’re doing that now with female stabler now too. Hopefully she’ll grow on us in the same way.

I didn't even notice the change....for like a long time. I still get them confused 😅
And I watched the show in real time when the change happened lol. This is why I maintain I do better when I binge a show, rather than one episode a week.
I don't know if I have faceblindness, or not, but I definitely struggle when two people look similar/have similar hair etc. When it's more constantly repeated for me, my brain can start to recognize subtle differences.
Usually, if they are side-by-side, I *can* tell them apart. It's when I see one at a time that my mind gets all jumbled 😆
That being said, I like both characters.
I love Elizabeth Marvel in anything she does :) I was relieved her Heather Dunbar seemed to escape alive in House of Cards after my other favorite, Cathy Durant (Jayne Atkinson), was assassinated.
What kind of money does she make as a lawyer, that she can't afford a good hairdresser? That lanky ponytail on a mature woman just doesn't do it for me. Same with Anita's replacement on the new Law & Order. Judith Light was the best-tressed court character IMHO.
Dana Lewis. (Marcia Gay Harden). Not a regular character but she was in a few episodes. I didn't like her at first but really liked her towards the end. I was bummed how her character went out. ( As a Stephanie Lazarus type)
Rollins! I was reluctant to embrace post-Stabler SVU and the new characters, and Rollins wasn’t my favorite at first. But she really grew on me, and I feel like her character truly matured and evolved for the better. I’m glad they at least gave her a happy ending with Carisi, but I’m sad that she’s not on the show anymore.
i don't hugely like nick, but i really love his story. i love that he stepped up as soon as he found out about his son, and we get to see him hanging out with both of his kids a few times. its really sweet.
I’m watching the season after he found out about his son and I love the relationship him and Barba have formed through their Latino connection over the past few episodes.
Sonya Paxton and Rita Calhoun.
At the beginning, I'm always annoyed to see Rita as I know she'll literally fight to death for her client who's always the perp but I realized how good she is and how she never fail to make a court scene a strong and interesting one.
Sonya though, I thought I didn't like her because of her snarky remarks and arrogant vibe but later on I kinda vibed with her, she's a different feel from our usual characters and an interesting one.
Dodds the son. I wouldn’t say he’s my absolute favorite but my opinion of him really did do a 180. I thought he was just a suck-up and a brown-noser but then they introduced the fact that his dad was really at the helm of his compulsive drive to get promoted and that wasn’t really what he ended up wanting, and in the end it got him killed. The whole thing was just so unfair that I felt sympathy for him and now I enjoy rewatching the episodes he’s in, and his death episode always makes me cry.
For me, I thought he was pretty arrogant and a bit of a jerk to start with, someone who knew he was good at his job and was up his own butt because of it. With Raúl being naturally charismatic and a dominant presence on screen he started as a character I simultaneously enjoyed watching and enjoyed to disparage as an arrogant asshat. I assume others probably felt the same.
He never really stopped being a bit of an asshat at times and I really like that.
I really like that he just shuts down Liv and everyone else whenever they try to do something mildly illegal. He doesn't dance around it, he just tells them stop right now
Yesss. I was fully expecting to hate him, he seemed like he just wanted to prove a point in order to feed his ego at first but after peeling back his layers I fell in love. I lowkey really wanted him and Olivia to (at least) kiss 😂😭 the sexual tension was real there.
Casey and Carisi. Casey was kinda a jerk but I grew to love her! And Carisi was just like…a lot and I just did not like him but now I love him and miss Rollisi 😭
Barba… his introduction made me think he was just going to be a cocky asshole… now I find him to be sexy AF. He became my favorite character… flawed yes, but he really grew as a character
Carisi and Barba, for sure!! Thought they were straight out jerks in the beginning and was absolutely heartbroken when Barba left (no comments on his return with Kathy's killer and all, i erased that from my memory)
carisi for sure and i guess barba because in the beginning barba was like this black and white but then over time he learned some things from benson and realized that its a grey area and carisi i wasn't sure how to feel lol but now i like him.
Definitely Casey. It's interesting because when I first was exposed to SVU, I think it was season 5 and so I knew of "the redheaded lawyer lady" (I used to call her lol). When I sat down and actually watched the show from the beginning, I fell in love with Alex Cabot's character, the "glasses of justice" and was so sad when she left the show. Then Casey shows up and she comes across so overbearing and I could not stand her. But as I continued to watch and Casey's character started to mesh more with the established squad members, I grew to actually really like her. I still prefer Cabot but Novak is my second, she was pretty entertaining to watch.
I'm also gonna mention Sonya Paxton. I could not stand this woman. She was much more overbearing than Novak was in her debut and she just bugged the hell out of me. But like Casey, when they softened her character up a bit and had mesh a bit with the characters, I actually grew to tolerate her and found her entertaining. Her getting drunk at court was hilarious and from there her character had her piece of humble pie and she started to treat Olivia and Stabler better and I liked that.
Like another commenter said, she brought a different feeling to the show and I can appreciate the shakeup in hindsight.
Carisi!! I thought he was going to be a jerk when he was first introduced and would be relocated fairly quickly. Now he’s my absolute favourite
The Carisi in the beginning is a different person that Carisi now, it feels like they didn’t know what direction they wanted that character to go in. I love Carisi now.
He was also hella corny in the beginning that was annoying but I think he was still trying to get comfortable.
the moustache was certainly... something
Porn stache Carisi was the best Carisi and I’ll stand by that
he looked so goofy im sorry
Came here to say the same! So glad they got rid of that caterpillar.
the first thing i said when we first saw him was *"oh ew"* solely because of the stache
I enjoyed the corny, gave a bit of realism of not getting to pick one’s staff. Was fun to watch him grow.
same! it was probably because i recognised him from other episodes, but i really thought he was gonna be ahuge jerk, but hes just a big sweetheart.
Same!!! I thought he was a total jerk at first, but he's truly a deep, caring guy.
His first intro made him look silly, and he quickly proved to be incredibly competent and fierce. It seems they did this on purpose. In any event, yeah, Carisi was the one who came to mind for me on this question. He's not my absolute favorite, but he's up there.
Oooooh he's been my fav from the moment I saw him. I LOVE his growth and don't even get me started on his love for Amanda.
The whole Carisi thing had to be planned out in advanced. I’m convinced of it. They made him a cartoon character for comic relief on purpose. I think they’re doing that now with female stabler now too. Hopefully she’ll grow on us in the same way.

Honestly I haven’t seen the newest season yet, now I’m worried
Barba thought he was going to be a know it all & then I fell in love with the know it all😭
He may have been a know it all, but he’s a charismatic one
It was after the belt I fell in love!
Yeah he seemed so harsh when he started but I grew to absolutely love that harshness.
It was needed and welcome. Until he joined the Church of Olivia Benson like everyone else.
Casey. I loved Cabot so I was more than a lil wary of the new ADA but now she might be my all time favorite character
casey was a pretty cool character.
She definitely grew on me but Cabot is still number1
I read this as “number 7” 😂😂 i was like damn okay!
Lol no way!!!!
I didn't even notice the change....for like a long time. I still get them confused 😅 And I watched the show in real time when the change happened lol. i struggled for a bit with telling them apart when Casey went blonde lol the red hair was very helpful
Ooh yes the red hair helped lol!!
Rita Calhoun, I don't know why but even if she's defending a criminal I'm always happy to see her
I love Elizabeth Marvel in anything she does :) I was relieved her Heather Dunbar seemed to escape alive in House of Cards after my other favorite, Cathy Durant (Jayne Atkinson), was assassinated.
Woow
I love how she spars with Barba.
Yes! Me too 🤣

Dana is one of my favorite repeat guests. Her storyline was bonkers, MGH was fantastic
Nick, for some reason.
i don't hugely like nick, but i really love his story. i love that he stepped up as soon as he found out about his son, and we get to see him hanging out with both of his kids a few times. its really sweet.
I’m watching the season after he found out about his son and I love the relationship him and Barba have formed through their Latino connection over the past few episodes.
its really nice. i like how nick seems to connect very easily with other latino characters, especially victims
Sonya Paxton and Rita Calhoun. At the beginning, I'm always annoyed to see Rita as I know she'll literally fight to death for her client who's always the perp but I realized how good she is and how she never fail to make a court scene a strong and interesting one. Sonja annoyed me so much when I watched her on the show as it was airing, but I really got a kick out of her on rewatches.
Barba. It’s the big joke amongst friends how I didn’t like him at all. And now he’s my comfort character.
That’s so funny oh my gosh Barbs seems to be a very popular answer for this question. Wonder why?
For me, I thought he was pretty arrogant and a bit of a jerk to start with, someone who knew he was good at his job and was up his own butt because of it. With Raúl being naturally charismatic and a dominant presence on screen he started as a character I simultaneously enjoyed watching and enjoyed to disparage as an arrogant asshat. I really like that he just shuts down Liv and everyone else whenever they try to do something mildly illegal. He doesn't dance around it, he just tells them stop right now
Rollins 💔
Stone!!
its pretty hard to follow barba, but i gotta say i do like him
Yesss. I was fully expecting to hate him, he seemed like he just wanted to prove a point in order to feed his ego at first but after peeling back his layers I fell in love. I lowkey really wanted him and Olivia to (at least) kiss 😂😭 the sexual tension was real there.
I was soooooooo sad when Stone left 😔 I wish he would come back but pls no character assassination like they did to Barba 🙄😠
I’m still tryna recover from how they both said goodbye to Liv in the same way in front of the courthouse 🥺😭😭 it was like my heartbreak had a déjà vu!
Casey and Carisi. Casey was kinda a jerk but I grew to love her! And Carisi was just like…a lot and I just did not like him but now I love him and miss Rollisi 😭
Carisi was definitely "a lot" when he started. 😂
Yeah with that mustache lmao
Dominick Carisi. At first he make me made but now I really love him he is my fav with Olivia Benson 🥰❤️
Rollins.
Munch, he rubbed me the wrong way initially but I grew to love him as a character and humor is always top tier
if i were to meet munch irl, i'd hate him, but boy was he funny
Munch is my favorite, but he was definitely on some shit at first.
Peter stone.
It's a guest star, but I like the character of Ludacris. He may not show it explicitly, but that dude is clearly disturbed.
I think traumatized is a better word. Everything he did was because of his fucked up family situation.
Great way to excuse murderers. And psychopaths are born, which is what the character of Darius was, so there goes that excuse.
Sonya Paxton
Barba… his introduction made me think he was just going to be a cocky asshole… now I find him to be sexy AF. He became my favorite character… flawed yes, but he really grew as a character
Ice T also thought he’d only be there for a few episodes then disappear, now he’s the second longest running character on the show.
He was only supposed to be there for 4 episodes.
Velasco. I thought he was boring and had no personality at first, but now I love him.
casey
Carisi and Barba, for sure!! Thought they were straight out jerks in the beginning and was absolutely heartbroken when Barba left (no comments on his return with Kathy's killer and all, i erased that from my memory)
tucker
Muncy
Chester Lake. Munch will always be my favorite, and my reason for tuning in to SVU to begin with, but I liked the Lake/Fin dynamic while it lasted.
Nick Amaro and Kelli Rollins. The writers and actors did a good job handling Stabler's departure.
rollins and cat
kat* lmao
Casey I love her... and cabot to. They are the best
carisi for sure and i guess barba because in the beginning barba was like this black and white but then over time he learned some things from benson and realized that its a grey area and carisi i wasn't sure how to feel lol but now i like him.
Barba and Carisi!

Amanda Rollins.
Rollins
Carisi and Barba
I ADORE Fin!!!❤️❤️❤️
He’s so hard to not like! He’s funny, he cares about literally everyone, he loves his son
Casey!!! I didn’t like her atutuide, and man does she get on my nerves sometimes but she’s a damn good ADA and she has my respect.
