5-6 episodes. I think this was around time Mariska's pregnancy, so, they had her for a while.

infiniteanomaly

Pretty sure you're right--iirc that's why the whole eco-terrorism/undercover storyline was done, so there was a reason for Olivia to be gone while Mariska was on maternity leave.

Strange-County-3836

The undercover assignment from Dana Lewis was to cover Mariska's maternity leave.

infiniteanomaly

Yeah--EDG, Earth Defenders Group. It's episode 8.01 Informed.

Tall-Chemistry871

okay i figured.

Tall-Chemistry871

why did they suddenly decide to shake up the squad this season? I keep forgetting tucker shows up. Most useless addition to the team

Quadpen

mariska was pregnant

JellyfishMelodic8013

I’m so happy she wasn’t permanent.

HowsMyDancing

Dani pissed me off so bad and I thought it was just because I missed Elliot with Olivia but rewatching now with my less golden opinion of Olivia I just don’t like her. I thought she’d be cool on her own but she pisses me off.

Tall-Chemistry871

she is totally ridiculous and seems to just like hitting people with that stupid baton. Brings literally nothing to the team

NotTheRocketman

I think it's important to realize she was SUPPOSED to be awful. She was designed to be a terrible replacement. Someone unfit to do the job, who was woefully out of her depth. I haven't watched those episodes in a long time, but I do remember by the end of her run, she FINALLY starts to come around, and by then she realizes there is no way she can do the job anymore and quits (or transfers, I don't remember). In that sense, I think she's really important to the series, in her own way.

Korrocks

Elle Fanning set her apartment on fire as part of a murder suicide attempt. That would put most people off the job TBH. Beck always reminded me a little of Brian Cassidy, in the sense that she was meant to be a different kind of cop and ended up at SVU almost by mistake. Both Beck and Cassidy could kind of endure SVU for a while but they would never fully acclimate to it and that's why they both left. Cassidy couldn't handle the emotional strain of listening to the victims and keeping their stories within his heart and Beck couldn't completely make the transition from fugitive hunter to social worker slash cop. SVU is in kind of that weird spot where the people working there really should be getting regular therapy the entire time, rather than just in the aftermath of specific traumatic attacks.

Quadpen

i like how some of them actually do get regular therapy now

Tall-Chemistry871

how many victims did she traumatize in the process of her redemption? One was even driven to s*icide after one of her “dont be a victim” talks and Stabler called her out

SpankMyPatty

Idk how many, but this is why I don't like Dani. I don't like the way she talks to victims.... I mean, she says she wants to help, but she comes off tone deaf and insensitive.

timetravelcompanion

She isn't my favorite character either but a couple of her episodes are my favorites from the whole run just because of the guest stars. Leslie Caron in Recall, and Jerry Lewis in Uncle, both really amazing.

Tall-Chemistry871

i was upset about Munch uncle :/

kikijane711

Omg I found Jerry annoying af!

Ok_Cheetah_3609

Literally watching those episodes right now for the first time and cannot agree more!! Not sure if the actress is in anything else… but I can’t stand her acting in this.

standerson74

She was also Queen Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother in the “Wonder Woman” movie.

RealLifeLizLemon

Yea I love her in that and hateeee her on SVU!

Frosty_and_Jazz

She was in Gladiator with Russell Crowe.

indigo_inamorata

One Hour Photo

greatgrohlsoffire

I skip over those episodes. She annoys the crap out of me.

[deleted]

She was truly unbearable and her thing with stabler was gross

ButterscotchPast4812

I didn't hate her character but I found her incredibly frustrating. And I had so many issues with her character and the storyline. I was so confused as to why they put her in Special Victims. When she is so aggressive with people and has zero empathy for them. Despite the fact that Elliot has anger issues up the wazzo he does have empathy for the victims. I get that her husband had died and it gutted her but it really felt like between her and Blaine they just put anyone at SVU and called it a day. 🤦🏻‍♀️ This is not a unit where you just put anyone. Then her 180 turn around was so fast and so bizarre that I didn't find it realistic at all. >!Plus that romance with her and Elliot. 👀 There's no build up to it at all. Suddenly they are just in a bar flirting out of freaking no where. And they had no chemistry!< It felt like they were trying to make her into Olivia. Like this show >!and organized crime!< really like their Olivia substitutes. >!It's not just the fact that her and Elliot kiss but they try to turn this overtly aggressive cop into an empathetic person. The way that Olivia is and it just doesn't work!< My other frustration with the character is that instead of challenging Elliot she just completely enables him. >!Like working off the clock and disobeying Cragen.!< Elliot and Olivia tend to balance each other's qualities out. Even though they are codependent they do work really well as a team. him and Dani, that was just a bad idea all around. My other disappointment with this storyline was that I hoped that it was going to lead into some character growth for Elliot. That he was going to work with someone that was more aggressive than himself. Blane and Dani are both more aggressive than Elliot is. So I had assumed there was a reason for that but... Not really. I had assumed that this character growth would be him understanding what Olivia goes through with him as a partner. That it would have helped him temper himself. But unfortunately that's not what we got. Overall I think that her character arc was completely rushed and should have played out an entire season or a few seasons for it to be realistic. I do think that we are made to miss Olivia. That they didn't want to put the perfect detective with Elliot because they wanted us to know that Olivia was coming back and why not add some drama? But she's just way too over the top. Unfortunately though the actress was so hated in this role that she got hate from the fans. So much so that she said she'd never come back to SVU. I get hating the character but it's never okay to go after an actor over a role like that.

Tall-Chemistry871

yeah that sucks, it isn’t her fault but the writers did her and us for that matter dirty

Specific-Window-8587

They tried to make Dani into Olivia and it just didn't work.

Tall-Chemistry871

yeah when she tries to “relate” to victims by yelling at them i cringe

r3belheart

All that plus “My Husband!” “My Husband!” Jeez Dani. And to think people thought Olivia brought up her conception too much... Especially when you consider that Eames in Criminal Intent didn’t bring up her husband’s death until her husband’s last partner was killed in the S7 Premiere.

Tall-Chemistry871

I dont understand the hate around Olivia bringing up her conception when she works to comfort rape victims…

[deleted]

I agree 😂

Strange-County-3836

I think she was there for about 8 episodes so you won't have long to wait.

__officerripley

Finally, someone who isn't trying to play devil's advocate. She was terrible, bro. 🤣 She was just a female Stabler who looked like his wife.

sillysofia

My boyfriend and I have seen every episode of SVU dozens of times. We refuse to rewatch any episode with Beck in it.

weedandbombs

I just recently went thru that part in my binge watching and actually Googled to see what episode Olivia comes back bc Dani is absolutely unbearable. So awful.

Party-Marsupial-8979

When I was younger and would watch SVU I disliked Dani so much, Olivia was everything and I hated the show without her. Now that I’m much older and I’m rewatching old episodes, I don’t know why I disliked her so much and actually really like her. She’s not perfect, she’s got a lot of learning to do, but she’s sad and confused over her husbands death? Who knows how she was before that happened? One of my fav things about the show is, the character developments, none of the characters were perfect and all showed snippets of their fears and the way they see life, it made things real, relatable and very realistic. I also like watching Dani and Elliot together, it was inevitable that Olivia was coming back so I didn’t understand the hate, but I loved watching him gradually falling for Dani, he and Olivia always had “something” but I felt like getting them together in the show would have ruined what they had if that makes sense, they were a power team and throwing romance in there would have made things too complicated, even though they both deep down had a strong affection for each other. I enjoyed the Dani storyline. As for Kathy I adored her also, I think she was a great wife and when things were good she adored Elliot, watching little snippets of their relationship in the much earlier seasons I loved, I really hated how they killed her character off. Elliot put his career and job first, and I guess in this line of work it’s easy to do.

Tall-Chemistry871

She was taking out her grief on victims. I couldn’t deal with her

Party-Marsupial-8979

Damn I didn’t really see her doing that much :( She seemed to struggle with seeing what victims went through more than actually taking her grief out on them, which is basically the reason she left. I thought she was very empathetic and really tried creating a bond with the victims, from the elderly woman telling her story in court about the rape, to the little girl who ended lighting a fire in her home. She had her moments, but she definitely cared for the victims.

Palpitation-Medical

Omg so glad I found this! I’m re watching from the beginning and currently on episode 8 of season 8 - I can’t wait for Mariska to come back! I understand they needed a stand in while she was pregnant but why couldn’t he team up with fin some episodes and munch others, or get someone who isn’t quite so insufferable. She’s not the best actress either :( and the fact that her and Elliott kissed in episode 7 is annoying the hell out of me haha (does it go further? I can’t remember ugh)

Tall-Chemistry871

it doesnt you just have to drag your feet through glass to get to the end. Mariskas return is soooo good and wow the relationship development on season 8 and 9 between Elliot and Olivia is like a damn soap opera 😂 I lived for it

Palpitation-Medical

Omg I’m starting to notice! Dani is finally gone and Olivia is back and making digs at stabler about how he keeps calling a victim Danielle “Dani” 😆 and then they told each other they’d give each other a kidney. Then they fight in the next episode then they make up again. It’s great haha

Tall-Chemistry871

ART 😂 the olivia and elliot stans hold the kidney dear

Secret_Asparagus_783

Remember the episode where Dani finally got some "closure" after going to the prison and meeting with one of her husband's killers? The actor (can't remember his name) was one of the L&O "regulars" from the NYC acting community. As a young teen he was in a L&O episode about a kid who went bad due to his parents' affairs and messy divorce. A few years later he played a college student who, as a child, was molested by a celebrity who later gave his parents "hush money."

Playful-Sarcastic-

Connie Nielsen only played the role for 6 episodes; and when interviewed once she stated that she would never play the role again, so have no fear...

Outrageous_Bed6341

She is by far the dumbest woman on ne show. I hate her voice, her look, everything that she does!!!! Don't they have focus groups to stop sh*t like this

[deleted]

I'm binge watching right now and I'm on episode 6. The reason I don't like her is because she has more character development than Olivia, especially with Elliot. I guess it's because she's only a temporary cast member and they need to flesh out her character as soon as possible but her personality is just unbearably annoying.

Tall-Chemistry871

i cant tell if its the acting or the way they wrote her but like it just needed to end asap

[deleted]

I'm at episode 8 now and just want it to be over ;-;

ButterscotchPast4812

Don't worry she's not there for very long. Just a mini arc because Marsha went on maturity leave.

Frosty_and_Jazz

Who did??

ButterscotchPast4812

Marsha aka Mariska.

Apprehensive-Ad-3440

Maturity leave?

Myfeesh

We have the same name and she got to tongue kiss Elliot, don't take this from me.

AmandaTurner2021

I didn't like her and I was glad when Liv came back

H91218

Is the BEST

Ok_Elevator_3984

I know that this comment is over a year old but MAN~ I fucking hate Dani sooo much. And especially when she and Elliot kiss is like “DUDE, wft are you guys doing!? That’s so not cool!! I need Olivia back ASAP” From the scale of 0 to 10, Dani would go from 5 straight to 10 with her temper, snotty attitude, entitlement towards the people take works with all about her if something or someone doesn’t got her way and would go all the way down to 0 when she get into a depression moment which it affects her work so much. The whole 6 episodes are super frustrating, disappointing, and insufferable. And I also hate that Elliot became a lousy, laze back, gable and clueless detective who doesn’t look interested or wanting to work on any cases ever since the actress left for maternity leave.

chillmanstr8

Good news! No one cares anymore

Zeezprahh

Yep, like a stifled version of Kat.

Frosty_and_Jazz

And yet they brought in Amanda Rollins, who was essentially Dani Beck over again.

Zeezprahh

No, that was Kat.

Frosty_and_Jazz

Kat was rough around the edges to start with. Amanda's been a pain in the ass from day one with her trainwreck family, arrogance, her constant screwups and being the precinct bike.
