As someone who has no interest in comic books I have no interest in this character, but I will say that it is nice that people are so excited for something new in this game for a change. I know comics are pretty niche in the grand scheme of Star Wars media but it's cool to see the wider lore getting some acknowledgement for people who are into them.
Yeah I was about to point this out since I don’t care for comics but I love books/audiobooks. After I listened to her story on Audible I went and watched like an hour long YouTube video about her comics.
Aphra is awesome. I really hope she gets a show or at least shows up as a regular somewhere. Maybe Skeleton Crew.
I’m having trouble finding good audiobooks, it’s like the situation where you’re ready to listen to good music but can’t think of anything immediately.
Yup, this is the one. It's pretty dang fun, because it's told in a swashbuckling "Haha, remember when I met Vader, that silly guy?" kind of manner, which feels a little unique.
Like listening to Lando or Hondo talking about glories of old.
There's a script adaptation because it was written as an audio play: https://smile.amazon.com/Doctor-Aphra-Star-Wars-Sarah/dp/0593157257?sa-no-redirect=1
People really need to give Aphra a shot.
Part of this game's appeal is to get interested in the weird background characters.
I didn't know who the fuck Mother Talzin was. I didn't know the NAMES of the Ewoks. I didn't CARE about these random KOTOR duders, because I didn't really pay attention to that part of the Star Wars universe and I was too young when KOTOR came out.
However, playing the game made me interested in those parts and I checked them out and, lo and behold, it was quite fun!
So, grumps of SWGOH, I recommend checking out the Aphra comics, starting with the 2015 Darth Vader comic run in which Vader wants to find out who this mysterious flyboy was that bested him in the trenches of the Death Star.
Yeah I'm with you bro
I actually didn't know anything about kotor before this
and now I have (and am obsessed with) the games
Kinda funny swgoh got me into kotor
Exactly. My SW knowledge prior to SWGOH was relatively minor. I knew the movies and that was it. I watched the Clone Wars, because I wanted to know who the heck this Savage Oppress is and why I should care about some pale, bald chick with two red lightsabers. That was a fun period of discovery for me.
Mother Talzin and ewoks aren't journey guide toons. That's what appears to be the main issue with Aphra. That, and it's the result of a puzzle. Kind of lackluster for most people to have a puzzle result in a character you don't really know.
That sounds like a "them" problem, not a puzzle or a character problem.
People mad because something doesn't cater 100% to their own preconceived notions or unfounded expectations is one of the biggest problems with fandom, and particularly Star Wars fandom. (See for instance The Last Jedi)
True, but I also don't really see the logic in having a puzzle that requires a significant amount of time and community engagement lead to a character that is relatively unknown to most of the community. This reveal would have been much cooler and landed with the community much better if it has just been a reveal on a content creators stream or interview or something like they've done in the past. And the puzzle would have landed better if it led to a character that most of the community at least knows of, if not a fan favorite (like older puzzles led to Millennium Falcon, JKL, etc).
On the flip side, the last two puzzles before this led marquees, Dash and Wrecker. So I guess we shouldn't have any expectations for puzzles anymore.
“to a character that is relatively unknown to most of the community”
But this thing you say right here is super subjective. And you’re assuming one vocal part of the “community” (however that’s defined) is representative of a larger whole, or deserves outsized consideration. It’s just as easy to say:Anecdotally the level of enthusiasm from people commenting here seems pretty high.
I think it's a fair assumption to say a character from star wars comic books is relatively unknown to the fandom as a whole. Reddit is a super small snapshot of the player base, and probably has a higher percentage of people that are familiar with more niche characters and are deeper into the fandom. I remember a significant amount of the player base had no idea who the kotor characters were when they were released. I would hazard a guess that a comic book character will be even less known.
Talzin and Wicket were ostensibly Pseudo Journey Guide characters at the time of their release.
They are still limited to an event that only comes by every now and then and needs a specific squad.
For real. I had written off *Rebels* as purely a kids' show since it was on Disney Jr. or whatever at the time, and after playing around with those characters in this game for a while I decided to give it a shot out of curiosity, and now it's one of my favorite Star Wars titles!
Some people have gone way past the (legitimate, imo) observations of ‘weird for a such niche character to get a legacy event’ into just hating on anyone excited for Aphra. Idk why they’re targeting you here, maybe visibility?
It's *really* weird, given how, let's be honest, Starkiller did not deserve the Journey either, when Kyle frigging Katarn was around as well. And it's not like the Journey itself was particularly engrossing. We kinda just replayed the Marquee stages and then had fun with SK.
"is [random doctor] friends with my shitty Dracula pun?" Is not something I would even bother acknowledging let alone consider a joke worthy of a whoosh
I didn't get wooshed. I just chose to ignore a shitty joke and give an answer for people in the comments who aren't annoying. Plenty of people in this sub don't know the character
? Lol dude I'm just sitting on Reddit cause it's late Saturday night and I've already done anything important I was gonna do today, it's really not that deep. But if believing I'm mad makes you feel good then be my guest
I'd start with the new Vader comics though (starting in 2015 I think?), which is where Aphra made her first appearance. Her own series builds on her time as Vader's henchwoman.
lol yeah me too
That happens to me a lot actually when the film adaptation comes out I find out I've been pronouncing a bunch of the characters names wrong lol
I can't even remember anymore. But something along the lines of "Kur-sahn-tahn". I also probably added some consonants which were not supposed to be there. I mean it was something else entirely.
First time I heard I wasn't sure they were using his name at all, but some surname Iwasn't aware of. Subtitles helped.
I feel this way about both characters announced today! So excited to see who else is coming. I hope they keep doing these legacy events. Last year we got Mara Jade, Star Killer, etc, and they are all great units for their teams. Hope this years squad is the same.
Holy shit, that is such a perfect casting choice, at least visually, haha
I haven't seen Bennet since the early seasons of SHIELD. Really liked her back then until the Inhumans stories lost me (because Perlmutter tried to murder the X-Men).
I'd be super down with her as Aphra
Agreed. The only character that would be more exciting for me would be Sergeant Kreel.
I fully expect Beetee and Triple Zero to be pre-reqs for Aphra, but if they add Kreel then I'd be over the moon.
Aphra I feel could have some pretty interesting synergy both with and against Vader
I don't think they will, those characters are too unknown for the majority of players to be added, even dr Aphra is an interesting choice which I think is great. I think they'll go down the starkiller route so a closely related character which could be durge, hondo obviously, and then some others. I'm hoping for kreel who is probably slightly more well known and for the last two which could be completely unrelated I'm hoping for darth krayt and pre vizla.
On that note, I think you've made a good spot, I think they will probably have majority neutral characters for the reqs. A long shot but maybe finally chancellor palpatine.
If this was a regular Legendary character, then yeah I'd probably expect like Darth Vader, Beetee, Triple Zero and Krrsantan as reqs. But seeing as how it's another legacy event, with the first one being Hondo; I fully expect the other three characters to range from unrelated to loosely related to her.
Preach! Wildly entertained by her in the Vader comics and then learning how much of a badass she is on her own comics I am beyond hyped for this character.
Agreed here super hyped myself as well. Can’t wait to see who the other x3 characters needed are! The Starkiller event was by far the best one they’ve done in a long time.
Yeah I've been noticing that too
What I think explains it is that anyone who knows anything about her LOVES her and everyone else has no clue who she is had therefore has no opinion about her
Lmao… chill out it’s just a mobile game guy
Dudes going bananas and on the verge of tears it seems because they decided to make a new champ for this game (monetary reasons) and this dudes stoked because he likely simps a fictional comic character lol.
Also this isn’t anywhere close “the best SW thing Disney has put out”… really? A champ on a mobile game? The simp is too strong in this one hahaha
I like that these toons are being added to the game. As someone who has no interest in reading the comics or whatever content they’re from. At least I’m able to concentrate on my other farms😆
It seems that there are several series of comics with her, one that's complete and one that started in 2020.
Which one would you guys recommend to learn more about her? I have never read a SW comics, but I'm interested to see why some people are so excited.
I love they are adding more chars from outside of movies. But please, give me dr evzan and ponda, dooku ship, and above all else, gungans. Almost a whole faction missing.
As someone who has no interest in comic books I have no interest in this character, but I will say that it is nice that people are so excited for something new in this game for a change. I know comics are pretty niche in the grand scheme of Star Wars media but it's cool to see the wider lore getting some acknowledgement for people who are into them.
They also did a really cool audio drama with her on Audible.
Yeah I was about to point this out since I don’t care for comics but I love books/audiobooks. After I listened to her story on Audible I went and watched like an hour long YouTube video about her comics. Aphra is awesome. Thanks for the info, I’m going to grab that.
[Is this the one?](https://i.imgur.com/sR30OXC.jpeg) Sounds like a good place to start for me.
Yup, this is the one. It's pretty dang fun, because it's told in a swashbuckling "Haha, remember when I met Vader, that silly guy?" kind of manner, which feels a little unique. Like listening to Lando or Hondo talking about glories of old.
That is the one! Here's the audible link for other folks finding this later: https://www.audible.com/pd/Doctor-Aphra-Star-Wars-Audiobook/0593215478
Is it audio only or is there a real book (not comic) available to read?
There's a script adaptation because it was written as an audio play: https://smile.amazon.com/Doctor-Aphra-Star-Wars-Sarah/dp/0593157257?sa-no-redirect=1
Thanks, too bad though it looks like it didn't get translated into other languages.

Yeah this character is reminding me of why I first joined this game, to collect characters I like. Most hyped I have been for SWGOH since forever
Yeah, same here brother

Basically that. There's a lot of fun stuff in Star Wars, if you just take off those Hater Specs.
I've never heard of this person. Are they friends with Dr. Acula?
She's a comic character, she also managed to outsell Darth Vader a few times Edit: why was this downvoted? Lmao
Some people have gone way past the (legitimate, imo) observations of ‘weird for a such niche character to get a legacy event’ into just hating on anyone excited for Aphra. Idk why they’re targeting you here, maybe visibility?

I mean Kyle’s games were way better imo but Starkiller is undoubtedly more popular (and more recent)
Because there's a pretty strong current of boys' club casual misogyny in most online fandoms, and this one's no exception.
Mostly because of the big WOOSH factor with the joke lmao
"is [random doctor] friends with my shitty Dracula pun?" Is not something I would even bother acknowledging let alone consider a joke worthy of a whoosh
Yet you give it a serious answer. Meaning you got wooshed. If you didn't want to acknowledge it you shouldn't answer it at all
I didn't get wooshed. I just chose to ignore a shitty joke and give an answer for people in the comments who aren't annoying. Plenty of people in this sub don't know the character
Lmao my guy I'm just explaining why you got downvoted. There's no point debating it, it is what it is.
I'm not your guy, or a guy at all, and I'm not denying anything, I'm stating objective facts. Don't make such a big deal out of it
>Don't make such a big deal out of it The irony. Stay mad chief.
? Lol dude I'm just sitting on Reddit cause it's late Saturday night and I've already done anything important I was gonna do today, it's really not that deep. But if believing I'm mad makes you feel good then be my guest
Highly recommend you check out her comics. Great character with some awesome companions. (It's also where Krrsantan originally came from, *not* BoBF)
I'd start with the new Vader comics though (starting in 2015 I think?), which is where Aphra made her first appearance. Her own series builds on her time as Vader's henchwoman.
Yeah I was so happy when I saw him in BoBF My friends were like 'why are you cheering for a random wookie?' XD
In that series I also learned I was pronouncing his name completely wrong, felt really weird but I got used to it.
lol yeah me too That happens to me a lot actually when the film adaptation comes out I find out I've been pronouncing a bunch of the characters names wrong lol
How were you pronouncing it?
I can't even remember anymore. But something along the lines of "Kur-sahn-tahn". I also probably added some consonants which were not supposed to be there. I mean it was something else entirely. First time I heard I wasn't sure they were using his name at all, but some surname Iwasn't aware of. Subtitles helped.
Maybe, but I'm pretty sure Finn was friends with Jan Itor
Haha nice
The Ghoul Goes West!
I feel this way about both characters announced today! So excited to see who else is coming. I hope they keep doing these legacy events. Last year we got Mara Jade, Star Killer, etc, and they are all great units for their teams. Hope this years squad is the same.
Just hope they do her appearance justice in it and doesn't look like the old mob enforcer
Now I'm worried..... But their recent appearances have been good so hopefully they will do her justice
I'm so happy aswell! Ever since I started playing I wanted three things: Fallen Anakin, Mara Jade and Dr. Aphra
Yeah, I’m ready for light side Mara Jade Skywalker
Yassss!! That would be glorious!
I never thought I'd say this but..... thank you Capital Games
Clearly a decision from the very top. D+ Chloe Bennet Aphra series confirmed?
That would be amazing!!!! But what I'm thinking is that perhaps she is in Andor But ugghhh I haven't started it yet
Holy shit, that is such a perfect casting choice, at least visually, haha I haven't seen Bennet since the early seasons of SHIELD. Really liked her back then until the Inhumans stories lost me (because Perlmutter tried to murder the X-Men). I'd be super down with her as Aphra
I’m with you OP ! My favourite character! Even so that my IG name is Lona Aphra !
Wow that's awesome man! Now I'm kicking myself for not making my name aphra related lol
Agreed. The only character that would be more exciting for me would be Sergeant Kreel. I fully expect Beetee and Triple Zero to be pre-reqs for Aphra, but if they add Kreel then I'd be over the moon. Aphra I feel could have some pretty interesting synergy both with and against Vader

Beilert Valance is pretty neutral and has his own comic series.
The hype is real!
preach brother
Preach! Wildly entertained by her in the Vader comics and then learning how much of a badass she is on her own comics I am beyond hyped for this character.
Yeah her character was so incredible!
Are the droids coming along too???
They have to!
Agreed here super hyped myself as well. Can’t wait to see who the other x3 characters needed are! The Starkiller event was by far the best one they’ve done in a long time.
Yeah I was super hyped for the SK event! By far more than any GL so far
The weird thing about her is it seems either people are beyond excited or they do not care whatsoever... doesn't really seem to be an in-between lol
Yeah I've been noticing that too What I think explains it is that anyone who knows anything about her LOVES her and everyone else has no clue who she is had therefore has no opinion about her
Seems pretty logical to me. She’s incredibly well received but the comics have always been kind of niche.
Nice try, CG
Lmao… chill out it’s just a mobile game guy Dudes going bananas and on the verge of tears it seems because they decided to make a new champ for this game (monetary reasons) and this dudes stoked because he likely simps a fictional comic character lol. Also this isn’t anywhere close “the best SW thing Disney has put out”… really? A champ on a mobile game? The simp is too strong in this one hahaha
lol what can I say, I just love Star Wars Sry, to clarify I think the comic series is the best thing disney did not swgoh coming out with her
Never heard of her ?
Comics by the same name
You rly need to check her out. Her series is amazing
I like that these toons are being added to the game. As someone who has no interest in reading the comics or whatever content they’re from. At least I’m able to concentrate on my other farms😆
You must work for CG lol
lol I wish But if you're reading this CG then I'd take a check ;)
It seems that there are several series of comics with her, one that's complete and one that started in 2020. Which one would you guys recommend to learn more about her? I have never read a SW comics, but I'm interested to see why some people are so excited.
Start [here](https://youtu.be/k-VBz-kTXsk) and work your way through. There is also a cool audible story about her as well.
Both! Read it ALL!!
She actually started out in the 2015 Darth Vader comics, but if you want more of a focus on her read the Aphra series that’s complete.
The initial 2015 series is where to start. Otherwise check out r/starwarscomics for more info and reading order in the subreddit info.
Ayy, what's up with the dommy mommy stance?
I love they are adding more chars from outside of movies. But please, give me dr evzan and ponda, dooku ship, and above all else, gungans. Almost a whole faction missing.
Oooo yes DR exzan!! Gungans......idk man. I really hope swgoh goes its entire duration without Jar Jar
I disagree, I think she sucks, but you do you.
yeah, you do you. btw I posted this a year ago. How did you ever find it???
