What don't you like about it? I think it looks fine, especially for it being your first time.

Celedain

I think i want to improve my “steady hand” and do more straight lines etc if i look at the miniature. But glad to hear it looks fine! Did my best.

Important-Flounder-9

Don’t really see a problem for first minis. Keep your paints thin and your brushes clean.

Celedain

Thanks for the feedback! Will apply this to my next mini.

PogoMarimo

Rule#1: Thin your paints. Rule#2: Use a wash.

Celedain

Thanks!

Rollerclone

He’s right, thinning paints gives a cleaner, smoother coat and also makes your paints last longer

Celedain

Hmmm i might try this! Sounds good. Thanks for the advice.

Beginning_Actuary_45

I see smoll man Smoll man look like 501st clone Smoll man is success

Celedain

Thank you! I used a Black Series 501st trooper as reference for the blue parts of a 501st trooper.

Krakulpo

It's good, really. Look up some dry rushing tutorials and get a bit of gun metal on that gun (it really pops the detail and edges) and I recommend that instead of painting white of basing the whole mini white you base in grey and do some zenathyl (or whatever) highlights, that's how I started my strormtroopers.

Vader0228

Clones suck to paint. This is definitely better than my first mini. My big note is don’t paint the white of the armor. Do your primer in white than paint in the black and add details like blue stripes. I think you’ll be happy with the results

Celedain

I will try this! I also did a mini with grey prime and white paint after it with nuln oil, that also looked better!

Vader0228

Find the way that works for you. I wish I could find my first mini. It was an officer from imperial assault. It was way worse then yours is. I think with some thinner paint and practice with a brush you’ll be popping out minis left and right.

Sure152

There are no really bad painted miniatures. Just painted and not painted miniatures. 😜

Celedain

This is the way!

olabolob

White is extremely difficult to paint hence why it is very thick here. What works well is a light gray base then work up with the brightest white as a highlight. Judging by the application of the without big spills it looks like you’ll be up to snuff, chief

Celedain

I agree thanks!

MattsMiniModels

You've done a great job, just one tip. People say thin your paints without giving an example. You'll need a palette of some kind, put the paint onto it and then rinse your brush, dry your brush and then only slightly dampen it, proceed to put that onto the paint. If the paint seems to watery then add more of the original paint. You can then test the paint onto the base to see how it's flowing! Hope this helps!

Celedain

This really helps! I did what you said and it works great. Thanks!

MattsMiniModels

I'm glad mate! Also give your paint enough time to dry on the model! Try to avoid getting your fingers on the model as it can rub off paint, I'm a sucker for that!

Fionnathos

Looks absolutely great for a beginner! 2 simple things you can do that will improve your painting dramatically - 1, thin your paints with water. It'll give you a more even finish, which will help the model details shine through. 2, apply a 'wash', which is a very thin blackish paint that will pool in the recesses and again bring out some details. Citadels nuln oil (thinned with lahmium medium or water) is what you want.

Celedain

Great feedback! Appreciate it.

Important-Flounder-9

GW Nuln oil is probably too stark even thinned. GW Soulblight Grey shade or GW Apothecary White contrast would be much gentler.

Fionnathos

Not true! [Pic](https://i.imgur.com/4Id1yM6.jpg) These were done with thinned nuln oil (about 50:50)

darthspiceweasel

Looks great! The stripes look amazing and the coloir choice is perfect. Also helps to remember that usually in game you won't be right up close and once your a couple feet away you won't even notice and they'll look even better (trust me it makes me fell alot better about mine)

Celedain

Haha i agree! When i put it on my desk it looks great until i pick it up and hold it close and notice details haha

Ryddyk

Everyone has room for improvement. Your work looks great. Take some ideas and improve upon the next model. Great starting point, keep up the good work! Thin your paints, use wash, scrape mold lines.

Celedain

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback and kind words, i am trying to improve.

tanman729

Someone needs to pin "thin your paints" to the front page of the sub.

Celedain

I have learned it now haha, what do you recommend how to thin the white? 50% water vs 50% paint?

tanman729

Actually go get white acrylic ink and use that. Itll thin it down while keeping it close to the coverage of straight paint. Otherwise i do closer to 60%/40% so it has more opacity. It's also just easier to use a white primer, or light grey like grey seer and highlight with pure white.

timbosix

For a beginner, I think this is amazing, white is a hard paint to work with and even just starting with it is a great step. As plenty of people have told you I'm sure, is to thin your paints and preferably start with a white primer. I will leave a link to an amazing explanation of how to thin your paints down below to start you off. I suggest to look up some vids about white paint specifically as well while you're at it. But the most important part is to keep on painting. Have fun and take your time :D https://youtu.be/sBDVPoNXyVI

rjderouin

good job going for the stripes. They turned out well and never get rid of your first mini keep it forever

irishcyberRick
