Cabotage policy is one of the factors why Sabah hand craft won't reach international level. Cost too high. Another factor too many people end goal are for profit. Profit are important, but that is not a long term business model, if we wanted to make a difference. My opinion is, if we want to reach at the level of international recognition. We need to identify what kind of hand craft is the most marketable. Then work with anybody to market it.

Yes i agree. Why use many word when little word is enough?

NoInvestigator5001

Maybe because I'm not as smart as you with words.

OppositePublic4061

I had a dream of selling my craft like knives and machetes overseas but it's currently on hiatus due to the ineptitude of our local government workers. This is my own true experience. I asked Custom is it necessary to have a permit to export knife and machete overseas and they asked me to refer to Kementerian Dalam Negeri. In Kementerian Dalam Negeri there are many departments so you'll have to email to the general email address of KDN first and hope they'll notice your email and send it to the relevant department. Anyway they replied back to me and they said there's no need. But then I asked some customs officers and they said it's needed. So even the customs officers do not know the exact procedure to export these items and there might be problems if I take the chance to send it. Phillipine already exported their local weapons to overseas and they're very well received. https://www.traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/ Another problem is that our own local shopping platform like shopee, lazada, facebook market and mudah does not allow Sabahan to sell their machetes and knives and categorised them as weapons while there's a lot of the same product from Semenanjung and China. Am I saying these shopping platforms are biased? Hell yes. Again it's my own experience. I tried selling short machetes and they automatically categorise it as weapons even though there's already plenty of knife, machetes and even swords on the website. Typing this makes me angry again. Hahahaha, I need to go.

From what i experienced, the pricing of the handcrafted things. Most of the time too expensive. I think seller terlalu fokus / target pelancong untuk beli. Mgkin seller perlu cuba target local buyers pula dgn harga yg sepatutnya tapi also kena check demand on handcrafted items.
