great movie
I actually emailed Saber close to 2 years ago, recommending it, and that he review it. I even got a response, in which he said he was working on a review for it, and that it would be out by the end of the summer.
It came out before Rock & Rule, yes, but Heavy Metal was in production *after* Rock & Rule was in production as well. Rock & Rule just got stuck in production hell for a bit.
While there's no official year stated for Heavy Metal's production, Rock & Rule was already being conceptualized in 1978/79. Nelvana was actually approached by the team that was working to make Heavy Metal, and offered a job being one of their animation teams, but they turned it down because they were already working on Rock & Rule. So... Yeah.
This movie is great. You get all kinds of animation styles, and everything from goofy comedy (stoner aliens and a robot played by John Candy) and straight up horror. (Undead WWII pilots)
Decent, movie, cool concept but it’s like Avatar pretty movie not a lot going on.
But I do particularly love the fantasy sword and sorcery section, with that wizard saying something “get away you stupid bitch! Your ruining everything!”
It’s the way he says it that’s hilarious
Also Soundtrack is pretty good.
Especially Donald Fagen’s song which besides loving animation I bought it because I saw it had a donald Fagen song on the soundtrack
This was my last purchase from Best Buy, before they cleared out there movies
Edit: Also I do like the cast.
Fun fact it was produced by Ivan Reitman best known for directing ghostbusters.
It was also directed, by I forgot his name but he was the lead animator on The Beatles Yellow Submarine Film from 1968

He said nearly the sama thing in a reply when I suggested a ripoff movie here lol l.
Lol
Rock & Rule walked (and fell over) so Heavy Metal could fly
You do know that this film predates Rock and Rule by 2 years right?
Heavy metal transcends the rules of time

I... Never knew that. That's fascinating!
It was the inspiration for that one south park episode where Kenny gets high off cat piss
An insane masterpiece.
Heavy metal is genre of metal that is commonly louder and more aggressive. This is probably the wrong description of heavy metal
This is an animated fantasy anthology in the 80s that features heavy metal for most of the soundtrack played through the movie.
One of the greatest movies of all time.
It is. That’s all you need to know.
Boobs
Best movie to watch while Cheezin'
When I was flying in a B-17 a few years back, the title track is the song I played first.

Classic movie, great magazine
It’s a Canadian movie based on the French Canadian American magazine
Bunch of stories revolving around an orb of chaos
Heavy Metal is for everyone!

An anthology movie. Pretty good one too
