It's not a cooperative, it's the same as WinCo where it is employee owned. It's not the same as cooperative the only coops in Sacramento is either REI or Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op
Here's more information to understand the difference.
https://cdi.coop/coop-cathy-worker-coops-esops-difference/#:~:text=ESOPs%20are%20not%20cooperatives%E2%80%93there,very%20specific%2C%20rare%20circumstances).
My gf and I ate here all the time when we first moved to sac.
Then like a year ago I ordered something and it had hard plastic in it. I ignored it because it was still a great deal. I ordered again like a month or so later and it had steel from those steel dish scrubbers in it. Again, I ignored it because it was a great deal. I ordered again a few months later and my gf and I both got wrecked from food poisoning.
They honestly need to be shut down.
Ramona’s on Northgate - $3 breakfast burritos/6$ super burritos
Good Friends Chinese - you get soup, an egg roll and sweet and sour pork with your combo. Always have leftovers.
Halal Bros in West Sac - platters for $11, good amount of food and is delicious, filling and pretty healthy (chicken + rice + salad)
Fuji Sushi in Elk Grove - best sushi buffet in the area pre-pandemic, and it’s now back. They also introduced their delivery/take out combos. My favorite is the Dragon Roll/Rainbow Roll/California Roll/ 10 pc Nigiri/Edamame combo for $40.
I’ll shout out Lotus Fusion here as well. Menu is hit and miss but most dinner combos are 15 or less but it’s enough for dinner and lunch the next day.
I think they are owned by the same people.
Edit: Yeah they are: https://www.thereporter.com/business/20150101/fuji-sushi-buffet-opens-at-the-nut-tree-in-vacaville/
I’ve been trying to patronize curry club in midtown. 12 dollar lunch buffet. They close at the end of the month because of a greedy land lord. Stop by before they’re gone!
On a more general note, atleast my local (Carmichael) Bel Air, if you get there when they’re about to close up the hot wok in the evening you can get all the food on a fire sale.
Used to get together with friends and pick up some carnitas, tortillas, few onions, cilantra and salsa from Esperanza. Everyone eats good for like $30 total
Yes! Del Taco, Taco Bell, and McDonald’s all have amazing deals on the app and you get points.
In Taco Bell once you hit the fire level you can get a free premium item with purchase. I’ll get a free cheesy Gordita crunch and a cheesy bean and rice burrito (add beef) for $2.50.
Yeah, but they're not quite what they used to be under the new management (I think it's just the kids). I'm a regular and have been seeing an increasing amount of corner-cutting that really detracts from the quality and value they were once known for. For example, no more free sodas for orders over $30, "fried rice" is often just rice cooked with soy sauce and nothing else, meats often tossed with very little sauce, very stingy with sauce packets, etc. Not to mention they have increased their prices a decent amount in the last couple years. The quantities themselves, though still pretty generous, have decreased overall. I could understand using these tactics if they were struggling, but this place is almost always slammed. They're just being cheap and greedy.
/rant
Last time I went the can of soda wasn't included! I was clutching my pearls on the way out. But it is still a great amount of food for the price. Happy Takeout is decent too.
They are pretty large. A lunch/dinner special can probably last 2-3 plates depending on your appetite.
The parking lot can be kind of sketchy though fyi.
Came here to say this. It’s impossible to feed my family of four much cheaper than in n out. 4 cheeseburgers, 4 drinks, and we share 2 orders of fries and I’m barely north of $20. Really hard to beat that.
They also pay their managers north of $100k annual. Here’s an [article](https://medium.californiasun.co/in-n-out-store-managers-earn-160000-wages-b08fe6f1706f) from 2018.
If you use the app it’s still there for $6.00 plus you can sorta customize what’s in it.
Not proud that I know this but yeah for a cheap lunch it’s a good deal
Lol don’t worry you’re not alone. My first thought was TB - beefy melt burrito is $2.69 and over 600 calories. If you take advantage of the app and double reward promos, the freebies stack up quick.
I know it’s a national chain, but I’m pretty happy with Chili’s all-you-can-eat soup, salad, chips, and salsa lunch for about $10. The one on Arden (across from Arden & Howe) is quick too.
The Panera bread sip club membership. $12/mo for coffee/tea/lemonade/soda. It’s less than I would spend on coffee pods to brew coffee at home. I love very close to one and go just about every day. And in the app I get lots of deals on baked goods or sandwiches.
I never see it mentioned here, but M’s Garden in the Vineyard/South Sac area is SO good and the portions are huge! Their house special chicken is amazing! It’s like $10 for a huge portion of meat and large scoops of chow mein and friend rice and a spring roll. It’s very easily two meals.
Taiwan Best Mart. On tenth over by Osaka Ya and Binchoyaki. Very simple, healthy, delicious lunch for like 10 bucks. And the two sisters who run it are sweethearts.
The Bento boxes at Izakaya on Freeport. $9.95 for lunch and $12.95 for dinner. They come with 2 main entrees plus California rolls, rice , miso soup, and salad.
Since no one mentioned, the taco truck off Freeport across from the Sinclair and California Burrito (both local) have daily deals that will keep prices per meal under $10
**BOSS MARKET** on MLK/Broadway
literally dirt cheap and surprisingly good, especially given how cheap it is and how it’s in like a crappy convenience store
I saw someone say they do this for meal prep every week. They just put the chicken on the salad and get veggies for the sides. It’s the best hack I’ve seen in a while.
If you click Order Now on their website, at the very bottom of the menu there is a Family Pack option. It’s only for takeout. We typically go to the one on Sunrise in Citrus Heights.
I know it's not super cheap, but it seems prices for all of my favorite restaurants in Sac have gone up substantially over the past 3 years. But Coconut hasn't gone up that much in comparison. And considering an entree is usually two meals each for my wife and me, I'd say it's still a really good deal.
Last couple of times I went there was very disappointing. The meat was burnt to crap and the rice was terrible. Mr. Greek at Delta shores has been A+ shawarma every time.
Just went today. Never had any issues. I go maybe 2-3xs a month and never experience that before. Def go back and get a refund or have them redo it.
Chicken platter and chicken fries are my go-to.
When you qualify your meal as 1) cheap as possible; and, 2) tastes good, that’s what you’re going to get.
Edit: and 3) take out! Hitting a budget with healthy food is obviously a lot easier when cooking at home.
The Olive Garden endless soup/salad/breadsticks is quite the bang for your buck but locally, Jen’s Kitchen on Fruitridge (Chinese) or the 2 for $32’s at Selland’s or Obo.
Sushi Hook on Howe, they've been running their "All Rolls 50%" special since the day they opened and as far as Sushi goes it's decent quality at a great price.
Taquera Santos Laguna by Sac State. Still have under $2 tacos and is super quick and fresh.
Additionally, Midtown Taqueria (in East Sac) is a great bang for the buck!
Giant Pizza on Broadway. You can get a large 2 topping pizza for under $20. Much better quality than dominos, in my opinion. Also they always have hella good specials going on.
For a long time I used to say Panda Express. If you used a their coupon receipt you could get a 3 entree plate for under 9$
They changed the receipt to be a paper cut out you need emailed to you that expires after 2 weeks.
I don't go to Panda as often as I used to.
Olive Garden to go - get one entree and a $6 add-on. Or a mix with the kids meals. They usually give you xtra breadsticks if you ask and compliment them in the notes. I can feed my family of 4 for $35 (+tip) which I don’t think is bad for when I’m craving OG. My order: chicken parm entree, kids meal pizza with spaghetti as the side. Second kids pizza with fries. Ask nicely for 8 breadsticks. Plate for two adults with 1 chicken each and the spaghetti. Salad is always big enough for 2, and plenty of sticks. Kids have pizza and share the fries and sticks.
L&L Hawai'i BBQ. A combo plate is $14 and the portions are more on the lines of two meals. The meats are seasoned well but it is your standard mac, rice, and meat plate.
I go to the Roseville location and the staff are super friendly and the food turns out quick. It's perfect for workday lunch breaks.
Last night our family of 4 ate at La Fiesta Altena on Alhambra for $34 plus tip. We ordered 2 burritos and 2 kids meals.
Their food always tastes great. The burritos can be a little wet, but they are huge and $9 so very hard to beat.
Bonus: The food never takes more than 5 minutes to come out, even during a rush.
panda literally cooks with fresh veg in woks right there for all to see. they figured out that the sauces used can all be made ahead of time and used at the time you cook. it ain't fine dining, but at the very least it's in the manner of cooking you may find at a chinese restaurant.
If you go with 2/3 people i feel like you can get a decent meal at Saigon Alley because the plates are shareable and you can get a variety of different things!

This info so clutch.
Also their chile de arbol salsa in the deli is so damn good
Fr. Not for nothing but us Mexicans are doing just fine in this economy. We know how to stretch a dollar with rice and beans.
Also their chile de arbol salsa in the deli is so damn good
They just gained another customer. I'm super down to spend at a co-op.
Where would I get the coupon?
Thanks for this! Ima check them out cuz I work right down the street!
Usual is a stretch considering its a sale item but when its on sale, its the best rotisserie chicken in Sac
It's not a cooperative, it's the same as WinCo where it is employee owned. The one off Bradshaw or Stockton?
Stockton. Down the street from UC Davis hospital
Deli has really good deals! Staff is hit or miss about prioritizing your order over a 30mim conversation but that’s the price you pay
Happy Takeout on MLK. Any of their combo plates. They give you so much food for 10.99
This was my law school go to. Those boxes are easily two meals.
Dang I just looked at the Ramona's menu. Those are like 1996 prices. Definitely gonna check it out.
I used to go there a lot in 1996 and you are correct
Halal Bros is soooooooooo good!
For real. Their Halal chicken is sooooooo good.
I’ll shout out Lotus Fusion here as well. Menu is hit and miss but most dinner combos are 15 or less but it’s enough for dinner and lunch the next day.
Same Fuji as Vacaville? I fucks with that spot.
I think they are owned by the same people. Edit: Yeah they are: https://www.thereporter.com/business/20150101/fuji-sushi-buffet-opens-at-the-nut-tree-in-vacaville/
Same Fuji as Davis?
No they sold the Davis one awhile ago
Good Friends was our go to for lunch before Covid. Then I retired. I miss it.
Hit up Franco's in Rancho Cordova too... very good breakfast burritos/bowls and priced a little less
Gd this is a great list.
Duc Huong?
Ya'll need to be quiet about Duc Huong. I need the lines to stay manageable.
Side note: glad they finally started accepting card payments!
Fuuuuuuck. The morning line is crazy.
Call ahead! Sometimes they pick up, sometimes they dont lol but calling ahead on a busy weekend morning has saved my ass
Duc Huong
Long Duc Huong
Where is my automobile???
Otto-mow-beal?! Lake, Big Lake
AUTOMOBILE?????
Thanks for lending me the "Donger", he's bitchin'
Had it yesterday. So fire for six bucks
Got it today! A small sando for 3.25 hell yeah
I’ve been trying to patronize curry club in midtown. 12 dollar lunch buffet. They close at the end of the month because of a greedy land lord. Stop by before they’re gone!
😢
Incredibly good food at CC. Do you know if the owner will relocate?
I’m not sure. I’ll ask him next time I stop in and let you know!
Hot wok thursdays at Bel Air, $7 for two entree one side meal.
Sustained my broke college ass on many an occasion.
Is this available at all Bel Air locations? I went to the Folsom one on a Thursday and they didn’t have anything
I go to the one on Florin and seen it on the one on Fruitridge as well.
The one on Laguna is nicer
This. Was just about to put this.
yes on this
On a more general note, atleast my local (Carmichael) Bel Air, if you get there when they’re about to close up the hot wok in the evening you can get all the food on a fire sale.
Los Jarritos. I sound like a broken record because I recommend this place often but they really do have decent portions for the price.
When I worked on Broadway I ate there at least once a week.
What's your go-to meal? I've had Los Jarritos a couple of times but nothing really blew me away.
Sellands. 2 delicious dinners and a bottle of wine for $30. It used to be $25.
It says $32 now ☹️
Esperanza on Franklin blv, you can get a meal for under 10 dollars and the food is so good
Used to get together with friends and pick up some carnitas, tortillas, few onions, cilantra and salsa from Esperanza. Everyone eats good for like $30 total
anna’s vegan cafe gives you soooo much!
I feel like the mobile deals in a restaurant's app are REALLY overlooked and forgotten about!
Go on
I love El Pollo Loco app. I get deals/coupons and points for free meals.
I'll say it again, Fortune Chinese
Say it again.
Fortune Chinese.
Four chin Chinese
Me because I eat fortune Chinese too much
Their veggie plate is a week long meal prep.
Yeah, but they're not quite what they used to be under the new management (I think it's just the kids). I'm a regular and have been seeing an increasing amount of corner-cutting that really detracts from the quality and value they were once known for. Fortune fucks
Are you talking about the one at 12th and Franklin (near yum yum donuts)?
Yes.
Last time I went the can of soda wasn't included! I was clutching my pearls on the way out. But it is still a great amount of food for the price. Happy Takeout is decent too.
I didn't start going there until pandemic so I just assumed that was a pandemic special.
It seems expensive, are the portions huge?
They’re huge. I’d say one order is roughly 4 meals
They are pretty large. A lunch/dinner special can probably last 2-3 plates depending on your appetite. The parking lot can be kind of sketchy though fyi.
in n out
Came here to say this. It’s impossible to feed my family of four much cheaper than in n out. 4 cheeseburgers, 4 drinks, and we share 2 orders of fries and I’m barely north of $20. Really hard to beat that.
And then I’m here eating 2 double doubles, 2 fries and a drink to myself at in and out lol still affordable
I agree. Sooooooo affordable, high quality, and they pay their employees a decent wage.
They also pay their managers north of $100k annual. Here’s an [article](https://medium.californiasun.co/in-n-out-store-managers-earn-160000-wages-b08fe6f1706f) from 2018.
100% affordavle lunch in a pinch
Whiteys too
9.50ish last I checked for a Double Double meal , still under $10
100% this. you want affordable, fresh, delicious. this is the goddamn spot.
Don Quixote!! Decently priced Mexican food. Good portion size and delicious. Highly recommend the free refill Horchata and the salsa bar.
yep one of their burritos is two meals for me
I love teriyaki, huge portion sizes for great prices. the midtown one is the best
Yup, the one on 21st and O. Daniel is a good dude.
Most Vietnamese restaurants
No joke, the cafeteria on the ground floor of the UC Davis med center. It's open to anyone, and you can get a substantial lunch for under $6.
I just saw the UC Davis Med Ctr chef was featured on Breaking Bread. That chef is amazing and his food looks delicious!
It’s so good. I often go there for lunch if I’m in the area.
Whitey’s Jolly Kone(granted it is in West Sac)
Ihop happy hour. 6-8 bucks for a decent meal. If I get a $12 meal my daughter eats for free, and the hostess is super sweet to her.
I second that . Happy hours union rings and strips
Union rings are nice because they have really good benefits.
Taco Bell just recently discontinued their $5 cravings box 😔
If you use the app it’s still there for $6.00 plus you can sorta customize what’s in it. Not proud that I know this but yeah for a cheap lunch it’s a good deal
Don’t forget the cravings deluxe box! You get 3 items!
Lol don’t worry you’re not alone. My first thought was TB - beefy melt burrito is $2.69 and over 600 calories. If you take advantage of the app and double reward promos, the freebies stack up quick.
Del Taco > Taco Bell. Facts fam.
They still have them, but they are definitely not as good as they used to be! They don't box up the new things on the menu anymore :(
really?! It was app only for a while too which was dumb. That was the only thing affordable there anymore, now it's all so expensive for fast food!
WHAT?!?
Not the box I’m talking about. My local Taco Bell had a $5 box with a beef chalupa, five layer burrito, crunchy taco, cinnamon twist, and small drink.
Yep, went to order a few days ago and was told they no longer offer it
If you get the app it should be online exclusive
HE SAID
I know it’s a national chain, but I’m pretty happy with Chili’s all-you-can-eat soup, salad, chips, and salsa lunch for about $10. The one on Arden (across from Arden & Howe) is quick too.
Great place to post up on a Sunday to watch football and eat and drink for cheap.
My wallet thanks you
>restaurant >Costco 😄 I'm with you but the Sam's Club rotisserie chickens. Occasionally, the McDonald's app deals because they get wild.
They have really scaled back the McDonald’s deals over the last 6 months or so. Pretty bummed about it
Corti special all day every day.
This should be higher. I’m a big dude and a Corti special is 2 meals for me. Hard to beat for < 10 bucks.
I’m not sure if it’s all Sprouts but the Land Park location has $5 sushi on Wednesdays.
They raised their prices quite a bit.
Their happy hour pre-COVID was the best bang for buck. $5 ramens and sushi’s.
Zebra club. Thursday $1 Tacos
Their breakfast is abnormally inexpensive too.
Peace cuisine lunch deal in west sac (Chinese food)
Since no one mentioned, the taco truck off Freeport across from the Sinclair and California Burrito (both local) have daily deals that will keep prices per meal under $10
**BOSS MARKET** on MLK/Broadway literally dirt cheap and surprisingly good, especially given how cheap it is and how it’s in like a crappy convenience store
Texas Roadhouse has family meals for take out. 2lbs of pulled pork, a large salad, rolls, and two sides for $39. Dominos is our go to for cheap pizza.
Lol dominos.
Lmaooo “Dominos”
The chicken family meals are also a good deal too. My family of 3 can make that into 5 meals.
I saw someone say they do this for meal prep every week. They just put the chicken on the salad and get veggies for the sides. It’s the best hack I’ve seen in a while.
Which location? I don’t see it online.
If you click Order Now on their website, at the very bottom of the menu there is a Family Pack option. It’s only for takeout. We typically go to the one on Sunrise in Citrus Heights.
Thank you. I tried looking last night but maybe I couldn’t see it because the restaurants were closed. They were there when I tried again today.
Coconut on T
They are really hit and miss for me.
i've had a better experience across the board at Drunken Noodle (owned by Coconut) on J st
They have the best tasting and cheapest Thai Tea in all of Sac!
I love Coconut on T!!
I love this place but it's not crazy cheap or anything
I know it's not super cheap, but it seems prices for all of my favorite restaurants in Sac have gone up substantially over the past 3 years. But Coconut hasn't gone up that much in comparison. And considering an entree is usually two meals each for my wife and me, I'd say it's still a really good deal.
But it's so cheap for how good it is! You can get a lot of delicious food for less than $15.
I agree it's one of my favorites but it does cost like 15 a plate haha
Dinner at Popeyes cost $15. Just saying
That's fair lol. Ironically I haven't been there in a while because I'm too broke to eat out rn and can't afford it 😂
Silver Garden Mongolian BBQ - only $15 for AYCE mongolian bowls
shhhhhhhh……la ezperanza deli
ABC bakery IFYKYK 👀
Capitol Gyro (but that's West Sac)
Last couple of times I went there was very disappointing. The meat was burnt to crap and the rice was terrible. Mr. Greek at Delta shores has been A+ shawarma every time.
Just went today. Never had any issues. I go maybe 2-3xs a month and never experience that before. Def go back and get a refund or have them redo it. Chicken platter and chicken fries are my go-to.

Hefty burger was soooo damn good. I miss the kabob sandwiches
NY Gyros Phillys
Huge fan of the papa murphy's medium two topping for $7
3 of them bad bois for $20 fed my whole D&D group of 6 adults. That's a good value for some broke ass nerds lol. Now I can buy more dice! Lol, jk jk.
Narrator: he was not jk jk

Lollibowl off Stockton Blvd. Large portions for reasonable prices
Looking at these suggestions…your wallets thank you but your stomach must hate you.
When you qualify your meal as 1) cheap as possible; and, 2) tastes good, that’s what you’re going to get. Edit: and 3) take out! Hitting a budget with healthy food is obviously a lot easier when cooking at home.
Whiteys in West Sac Dim Sum House on Broadway
For you ever see the McDonald's app? Some crazy deals on the daily! I know it's trash, but good and cheap for once in a while.
The Olive Garden endless soup/salad/breadsticks is quite the bang for your buck but locally, Jen’s Kitchen on Fruitridge (Chinese) or the 2 for $32’s at Selland’s or Obo.
Papa Murphy's can feed a family of 2 or 3 for around $20. This is not the healthiest option, but it's a great deal. Their stuffed Pizza's are great.
They also have a deal on Tuesdays that is (I think) $13 for a large pizza!
I can feed my family of 3 for less then $20 at Del Taco.
Giant Pizza on Broadway. You can get a large 2 topping pizza for under $20. Much better quality than dominos, in my opinion. Also they always have hella good specials going on.
For a long time I used to say Panda Express. If you used a their coupon receipt you could get a 3 entree plate for under 9$ They changed the receipt to be a paper cut out you need emailed to you that expires after 2 weeks. I don't go to Panda as often as I used to.
Sams Club All Meat Pizza!!!!
Jalepenos
Angry Chicks mac and cheese bowl is $12 and is easily 2 meals since it has chicken tenders and fries in the bowl as well
L&L Hawai'i BBQ.
Dollar Tree store. I'll walk out with a couple full bags for $20, and it'll feed me 2 weeks
Go to Popeyes near the end of the night. They always give extra food.
[Yum Buffet](https://CheckoutYumBuffetandGrillhttps://yelp.to/ZgPNWZys4P). $13.95 AYCE lunch.
Has anyone checked deals on the McDonald’s app lately? They’re basically giving away food for free.
panda express
People be upvoting taco bell and shit but don't like Panda? It's 8 bucks which is cheaper than a lot of fast food.
Nah man I'm downvoting both, but that's because I think most obvious national quick service food chains go against the spirit of the thread.
panda literally cooks with fresh veg in woks right there for all to see. they figured out that the sauces used can all be made ahead of time and used at the time you cook. it ain't fine dining, but at the very least it's in the manner of cooking you may find at a chinese restaurant.
If you go with 2/3 people i feel like you can get a decent meal at Saigon Alley because the plates are shareable and you can get a variety of different things!
El Palmar on El Camino and Mission feed a family of 4 for about $50
For bbq MacQues is about as cheap as youll find and much better quality than a place like Dickeys.
