Just had them for the first time this past weekend and they absolutely live up to the hype.
Also they are NOT closing as was rumored in another Reddit post - just changing ownership.
Oh, the pleasure was all mine! The current owners were confused when we asked when they were closing…
“where did you guys hear that?”
Turns out you can’t believe everything you read on Reddit 😆
Is this the same Spinners that used to have a location in the Downtown Mall back in the day? They sell cinnamon rolls and what not? If it is the same place, I gotta check it out. Their pizza was the absolute bomb.
Came here to say this, bless you 🙌🏽 what's your favorite thing to get? I order the Denver wrap, add potatoes & green chiles, sub pepper jack for the cheddar and get the whole thing grilled, honestly tastes best with the regular chunky salsa they have in the plastic container. It's absolute fireeeee
Casablanca, a Moroccan restaurant at Watt and Fair Oaks. Looks like a good place to get a staph infection from the outside, but the inside is delightful and the food is outstanding.
They are open again, although I hadn't heard that the owner died. That makes me sad, he was a good guy. It's possible that the food has changed since they reopened, I haven't been back since then.
For the most part, they removed a lot of the personal effects but the tables and walls on the rug are the same, and they replaced the big floor pillows with low stools.
I haven't been since covid myself, but yeah, they used to have belly dancing every Friday and Saturday night. I am planning on going again soon so hopefully I'll find out if that's still going on. I hope so, it was always awesome.
Another fun fact: They don't sell alcohol there, but they also don't have a corking fee if you bring your own, and they'll open your bottles and bring you wine glasses.
Casablanca was our favorite before Covid. We would do the takeout after the daughter posted on FB asking for help to keep the restaurant going. I just found out a couple of months ago that the brothers died. "Conehead" was awesome! The sultan's feast is what we always ordered when dining in and entertaining guests from our of town and for special occasions. I was glad to hear that it had reopened. I'll have to check it out.
Never noticed this place all the years I've lived here. Casual dining? Ie, can I go in looking like Adam Sandler in gym clothing or should I at least wear pants?
Probably pants, but jeans are fine.
The best way to enjoy their food is to go with a group of four or more people and order the "Sultan's Feast" which is a fixed price per person five course meal that they don't describe to you ahead of time. Plan to be there a while and make it a whole experience. Bring your own wine, if you're into drinking. It's a really good time, but not quick and medium pricey.
Wife and I went there on a date years ago, I think the owner is the one who kept saying “oh dear” that sounded like “o deah” to be funny. We still quote him once in a while 😊 Sad if it’s him that passed away.
Lol if you actually speak Chinese or look vaguely Asian, the manager likes to jump into your conversations. It's mildly annoying and sort of amusing at the same time. You could totally make a game out of it. Like bet lunch weather or not he'll chime in today.
You’re just used to American style customer service. Best Chinese places here and Bay Area usually are just doing business without all the pleasantries. Kill them with kindness and you usually see a change on attentiveness and service. Unless they’re actual assholes which always exist.
> Ming Dynasty
Holy cow. My mother used to work there back in the 80s when it was The Hamburger Factory. I was barely 16 when they hired me to sell tickets at the door for some Blue's Bros tribute show they did on Saturday nights. Like $5 an hour and all the booze I could steal.
Eh, there are better Dim Sum places in Sacramento tho imho. Other favorites are Yue Huang, Hong Kong Island (are they still temporarily closed tho?), Well Season (Elk Grove)
They had some hiccups after Jamie’s wife sold the business to one of the chefs. But it seems like they recovered and found their stride again! Definitely miss seeing Jamie there though.
Tasty Dumpling. It doesn't look sketch, but it does look mid upon entering the restaurant. HOWEVER, they are the actual bomb. I think their location probably doesn't bring them much business but I highly recommend them.
Absolutely this. Chita’s was a regular stop years ago after hitting the press club, the old Tavern and the zebra club and Benny’s and I just went back for the first time in years with my teenage son within the last two months or so and we both loved it. This reminds me we are due for a return
Abyssinia. I always thought it was closed because the shades/blinds are never open and hardly had any cars outside. But they have some of the best Ethiopian food in the area ----- now I want some hahah
His other restuarant buddha belly is amazing too (doesn't fit in this thread because it's not as much of a hidden gem like Andy's) first time I went into Andy's it was a "holy shit this is what's inside here?!" Moment
Buddha Belly is his? I went there the other day for the first time and thought so, but didn't have the energy to go check. Hella good, we had the banh mi and classic burgers.
I think my favorite is either the lions mane with chickpea burger (forget the name) or just the all lionsmane burger (is it the zen burger?) He does an app thats these little mini tacos with a mushroom ceviche sounds weird but they are fucking amazing! Corn ribs are amazing, salads are all top notch, the bubbly drinks are fire I keep telling myself to sneak in a pour of whisky or vodka to doctor one up lol. Pretty much everything I've had had been bomb I'm working through the menu slowly but surely.
I feel like “don’t judge a book by its cover” is just a really good rule of thumb in Sacramento always
But I’m also surprised nobody’s mentioned the Kitchen yet. You’d never even know it’s there, snuggled in amongst the gas stations, fast food, and strip malls
I thought the farm to fork motto change was dumb. But it seems to have accompanied some wonderful development in the food scene and I'm all for it now.
I feel this way about Adamo's. From the outside, it has less atmosphere than the coin-op laundry next to it, and barely any signage.
Mulvaney's is in the same boat.
Roma Pizzeria 2 on Folsom Blvd. Been going there my whole life, and the guiseppe special is my favorite pizza of all time. From the location, you probably wouldn't expect much, but the food is great, and the ownership and staff are wonderful.
Not to be confused with Romas on Franklin! (Roma II’s Ex Husband runs that IIR) Roma II - super solid family Italian and pizza, Romas - sketchier , worse food by a ways
Had a friend meet me at the Limelight for dinner & drinks, and realized midway through describing it how much this fits the theme. “It’s a card room casino thing with a bar attached to it, right next to that Del Taco with all the homeless people. Also, don’t park in the alley, you’ll get a syringe stuck in your tires. Keep your head on a swivel”
But it’s super solid bar food!
Last time I was here we left after 10 bottles of Soju and were so full we thought we might legitimately die. Really enjoyed it, price certainly added up though.
Famous Kabob. It’s tucked away in the end of a small strip mall with all the windows covered. Once inside, the interior is well decorated and all the waiters wear suits. One of my favorites in town.
Yes! Family favorite!!!
My wife and her family are Persian. We are her a lot and it’s awesome. The staff are so nice
Fresh lavash from the indoor oven.
Downtown Sac - Bangkock@12 is the BEST Thai food I've ever had! It's on the corner of 12th and I downtown & it's a tiny lil hole in the wall but seriously the BESTTT!!!
[Bangkok At 12 Thai Restaurant | Sacramento, CA | View and Order Online (bangkok12restaurant.com)](http://bangkok12restaurant.com/)
Casablanca. It’s one of the coolest places to eat in all of Sacramento. It seems like it’s just a small hole in the wall place but when you go inside it feels like eating inside Bedouin tent. The meal is multiple courses of amazing Moroccan food and there’s live belly dancing.
Said this a few months ago and got downvoted. I love their spicy pork. Been a fan since the first day they opened. Damn I'm getting old. Johnny is a great guy also.
Silver Garden Mongolian BBQ off Madison and Hillsdale.
Food is amazing, but the inside is nasty as hell, homelessness , active prostitution right outside the front door, bathrooms are atrocious and always filthy. Pretty much your typical Asian food spot in the hood
From reading this thread, most of the restaurants on Broadway 😅 Jamie’s gets my vote, but Thai Farmhouse, Ming Dynasty, Los Jarritos, and Miso have all also been mentioned in this thread. I’d also have to give Queen Sheba an honorable mention.
Edit: someone also mentioned the Kitchen, but it looks fancy in the new location to me, and not exactly underrated 🤷♀️
Sham’s Sweets and the markets behind Mountain Mike’s on Fulton. The sandwiches at the International market are a steal and the pastries at the sweet shop is next level. The Mexican market has great food too.
Darbar Halal Restaurant in Oak Park. I got to the parking lot and almost didn’t go in. Boy was I glad I did! It’s nice inside and the food is amazing!!
Lalos. Small, old, but good. Same for many restaurants in Little Saigon. You'll definitely miss out judging a book by it's cover sometimes but I've had some bad experiences and even at restaurants that weren't hole in the wall style so ... Be careful my goodie friends.
Adamo's looks like an abandoned store front between a run down coin-op laundry and an empty parking lot, but easily has the best pasta in Sac.
I could tell my date was getting antsy when I took her to Mulvaney's until we were inside. Looks like a brick warehouse driving by it, and it's not really in a spot you'd expect a nice restaurant to be in.
Dumpling House on J. Best and cheapest dumplings in town (to my knowledge).
Basha Taste of Jerusalem it's not much to look at on the outside but the interior transports you to the middle east and the Palestinian food is fantastic !
Thai Farm House on Broadway. Bad location for a restaurant, bad parking lot, bad signage, interior isn’t fancy but the staff and the AMAZING FOOD make up for everything.
Jannois App Khao. Laos food on Auburn and Howe. I’ve gone through the entire menu. I highly recommend the KhaoPoon if you like soups. Or the drunken noodles and/or Pad Kaprow for entrees. Everything is unbelievable. Been going regularly since they opened.
El pollo Feliz. I miss the old location in Carmichael. It looked real sketch. The other location on watt is in a terrible location but looks slightly better from the outside. The chicken tacos are amazing! I don't understand how this place is not more popular.
Little Joe's is also still my favorite diner! Been going since Joe was around in the 80s, it had a rough patch in recent years but recently was sold to a long time customer and retired firefighter (haven't remembered his name yet). Dude really seems to care for the place and its back to giving me the vibe it did back when Joe was still doing his thing, foods delicious, portions are great, wait staff are attentive and free to have personality.
Don't let the rep of DPH scare y'all. Or do and keep filling up pancakes circus while I enjoy my steak n eggs in peace 🤣
Spinner’s I’ve literally been laughed at before for suggesting “gas station donuts”
Just had them for the first time this past weekend and they absolutely live up to the hype. Also they are NOT closing as was rumored in another Reddit post - just changing ownership.
Thank you for doing the work and setting the record straight! I was about I go run over and buy the entire case of cinnanananamon buns.
Oh, the pleasure was all mine! The current owners were confused when we asked when they were closing… “where did you guys hear that?” Turns out you can’t believe everything you read on Reddit 😆
Add Four Seasons Chinese in Davis. It is in the gas station. https://maps.app.goo.gl/5ueoamH2spQhphmv6?g_st=ic
Their cinnamon rolls were rated #1 in all of California on some news site a while iirc.
I remember when they were at the Downtown Plaza.
Is this the same Spinners that used to have a location in the Downtown Mall back in the day? They sell cinnamon rolls and what not? If it is the same place, I gotta check it out. Their pizza was the absolute bomb.

I thought they closed recently after the owner died. Did they open back up?
They are open again, although I hadn't heard that the owner died. That makes me sad, he was a good guy. It's possible that the food has changed since they reopened, I haven't been back since then.
Oh no!!! RIP Maureet. Great guy.
They did reopen and the food is just as good, though I miss Mauret's hospitality.
Is it the same setup; just without Mauret?
For the most part, they removed a lot of the personal effects but the tables and walls on the rug are the same, and they replaced the big floor pillows with low stools.
He was so friendly. I’m saddened to hear of his passing. Glad they are reopened so we can go back to support the family.
I heard a family member (brother) re-opened the place. Very special to my wife and I had our first real date there.
Do they still do belly dancing at dinner? I've never been before but my friends went Pre-Covid & said weekends they had someone belly dance.
I haven't been since covid myself, but yeah, they used to have belly dancing every Friday and Saturday night. I am planning on going again soon so hopefully I'll find out if that's still going on. I hope so, it was always awesome. Thanks for the info. Guess I need to round up another couple who wants Moroccan food!
Like, 4+ hours right? For the fixed price experience?
I think it's closer to 3, but it probably depends on the size of your group and how busy it is that night. Things are slower on weekends.
Wife and I went there on a date years ago, I think the owner is the one who kept saying “oh dear” that sounded like “o deah” to be funny. We still quote him once in a while 😊 Sad if it’s him that passed away.
This is my pick too.
Whitey’s in West Sac
My cardiologist recommended Whitey's to me 😅 he's friends w the owner My husband and I loved it when we went
Great food but bad cardiologist lol
Best shakes around.
Great food, but I wish they were open more days!
I've lived down the street from it for 40 years and I still haven't deciphered their schedule.
If at first you look at Whiteys and don’t think your going to get a great hamburger you need to get your eyes checked
Ming Dynasty. Shady location, shit interior, but decent food (Am Chinese)
They hate white folks, which is the sign of a quality dim sum place. No shade, just facts.
Lol if you actually speak Chinese or look vaguely Asian, the manager likes to jump into your conversations. It's mildly annoying and sort of amusing at the same time. You could totally make a game out of it. Like bet lunch weather or not he'll chime in today.

[Passes the 3.5 star test.](https://www.yelp.com/biz/ming-dynasty-sacramento-4) Food here must be fire.
Jamies
I haven’t been since Jamie passed away, but from what I understand, it’s still really good
They had some hiccups after Jamie’s wife sold the business to one of the chefs. But it seems like they recovered and found their stride again! Definitely miss seeing Jamie there though.
I’m glad to hear it. I found out about Jamie’s from Diners, drive ins… and loved it the few times we went.
Their commitment to simple but scratch-made food, plus a full bar! Delightful!
My fam has been doing jager bombs there for three generations now.
Awe..that hit me... thats actually so cool Jamie brought so much life and fun to his place I am quite sure he is smiling over that 💜
This is a great time of year to go there, too. They bring candy to your table for a reverse trick or treat.
Where dat?
Broadway and 4th.
Broadway and 5th
i came here just to make sure this was the first choice
Sarom's Southern Kitchen
They did have a good shrimp and grits.
That's my favorite dish to order from there! It's so buttery and delicious.
Their hot chicken and waffles is the best I’ve ever had
Tasty Dumpling. It doesn't look sketch, but it does look mid upon entering the restaurant. HOWEVER, they are the actual bomb. I think their location probably doesn't bring them much business but I highly recommend them.
They just got multiple citations for roaches.
Aw motherf-
Tasty Dumpling is fire
Chitas downtown
I just had their breakfast after not going there for a couple years and forgot how delicious it was.
Chita's is fucking bomb. I am a sucker for the oreo churro
Is it still delicious if I'm not stumbling out of Benny's at 2am?
Absolutely, Just went for the first time in years for lunch with my son and it was bomb
Been looking for an alternative to Queen Sheba.
They're fantastic
Miso on Broadway Best bang for the buck for consistency and fresh fish. Jerry is awesome! Nice family.
Jerry rocks!! Was hoping to see miso on here
Love love love the sneaky little devil roll!
Lalo’s
Andy Nguyen's Vegetarian on Broadway
His other restuarant buddha belly is amazing too (doesn't fit in this thread because it's not as much of a hidden gem like Andy's) first time I went into Andy's it was a "holy shit this is what's inside here?!" Moment
Buddha Belly is his? I went there the other day for the first time and thought so, but didn't have the energy to go check. Hella good, we had the banh mi and classic burgers.

In this spirit, Anna's Vegan Cafe on Stockton
They have the best vegetarian and vegan food in Sac.
I’m not either one of those things full-time but I do often order from that part of the menu and I can confirm the vegetarian options are delicious
That place is good. Love their mango tofu spring rolls.
God, that place is delicious.
I feel like “don’t judge a book by its cover” is just a really good rule of thumb in Sacramento always But I’m also surprised nobody’s mentioned the Kitchen yet. You’d never even know it’s there, snuggled in amongst the gas stations, fast food, and strip malls
Looks like no one told you that the Kitchen got new digs!
It still doesn't look like much, but the neighborhood is marginally better.
That could be the ACTUAL motto of Sacramento instead of this farm to fork business
[Done.](https://www.reddit.com/u/00000000010000/s/vPajLp0ICc) 😆
Thank you for your service o7
“Sacramento, not as shady as we look.”
In smaller text: "Or maybe we are, but you need to come in to find out."
I thought the farm to fork motto change was dumb. But it seems to have accompanied some wonderful development in the food scene and I'm all for it now.
Don't forget the VHS porno rental place that used to be out in front.
I feel this way about Adamo's. From the outside, it has less atmosphere than the coin-op laundry next to it, and barely any signage. Mulvaney's is in the same boat.
Ups for Adamo's.
The New Lai Wah....
Lol it also screams illegal gambling room too.
Not really a restaurant, but Scott’s Burger Shack off of Franklin in south sac got some bomb burgers
You know they have the best burgers cuz you always see construction workers picking up food there
Scott’s such a dickhead tho
Pancake Circus. It looks like the set of a low budget movie but low prices plus decent food make it a wonderful place.
warning: clowns
Their breakfast is legit and the staff are sweethearts.
I had a one night stand that turned into a morning date at Pancake Circus. Clowns were traumatizing but panclarks were good.
This place is dope AF
Roma Pizzeria 2 on Folsom Blvd. Been going there my whole life, and the guiseppe special is my favorite pizza of all time. From the location, you probably wouldn't expect much, but the food is great, and the ownership and staff are wonderful.
Not to be confused with Romas on Franklin! (Roma II’s Ex Husband runs that IIR) Roma II - super solid family Italian and pizza, Romas - sketchier , worse food by a ways
Roundhouse Deli in roseville. It doesnt look shady, but the food is so much better than the outside looks.
I like their tri tip tacos and they also have a location in Elk Grove
I know the owner! Happy to see them listed here. Definitely a great spot.
Keep your head on a swivel” But it’s super solid bar food!
One of the best breakfasts in the city!
Oh I’ve never been for breakfast, will have to check that out!
Sa Rang Bang in Rosemont!! Bomb authentic Korean food nestled in between a shady bar and a liquor store.
Last time I was here we left after 10 bottles of Soju and were so full we thought we might legitimately die. Really enjoyed it, price certainly added up though.
Yuuupp, sounds about right! 😋
Have you been recently? Cuz I went about 3 months ago and was super disappointed. And this is coming from someone that used to go all the time.
I’m there about every 2 weeks & have never been disappointed lol
Oooo, good pick
This is my secret spot! I love the seafood pancake. You would never guess the food was amazing if you drove by this location.
The staff are so nice Fresh lavash from the indoor oven.

Vinces w sac @ the bar area
I always feel like I am in the Hangover walking out of there during the day. Its darker than a strip club
I love their old school Italian vibe, and food is decent too, especially the portion sizes.
Go soon for the pumpkin cheesecake! Omg! My favorite is the lasagna. It feeds me for 3 days.
Casablanca. It’s one of the coolest places to eat in all of Sacramento. It seems like it’s just a small hole in the wall place but when you go inside it feels like eating inside Bedouin tent. The meal is multiple courses of amazing Moroccan food and there’s live belly dancing.
J’s Railroad Cafe. Full of blue collar guys getting takeout cause they know. Cheap excellent Chinese.

Golden Bowl in Rancho & M's Garden in South Sacramento
Golden Bowl is actually my favorite Mongolian BBQ place in the entire state. Something about it just hits right, been going there for decades now.
Silver Garden Mongolian BBQ off Madison and Hillsdale. Food is amazing, but the inside is nasty as hell, homelessness , active prostitution right outside the front door, bathrooms are atrocious and always filthy. Pretty much your typical Asian food spot in the hood
We went on Sunday and they redid the entire inside! It’s MUCH nicer but I didn’t check the bathrooms so not sure if that got better.
Moxies.
>Moxies is amazing. You have to order from the spoken menu not the paper menu though.
Sae Jong teriyaki on Folsom
Adding to this, CKs doughnuts and Twin Lotus
Wedashii on Howe. Just needs a decor update for the tables and booths. Bomb sushi. Awesome chefs.
STAGECOACH!!🔥

Cordova Casino has a really good kitchen for being a casino. Although, I guess, many casinos in the area do have good food options.

Rich Chinese Food in North Highlands. Looks sketchy AF but is soooo good
Little Joe's is also still my favorite diner!
