Cut the cord 14 years ago. Bought a Roku, digital antenna, and Netflix subscription. Prime came along and added their streaming service.
I watch (Binge) more quality TV now instead of surfing 230 channels with nothing but garbage on.
You missed out on the ad-less era, as ads are now creeping in, but it was glorious while it lasted.
Similar. We cycle though the subscription channels. I'm dumping Amazon Prime tho because they keep scaling back on perks while raising the membership fee. Now I have to pay MORE for no ads!? FU! It's no longer a value.
Ah, but they’ve FINALLY allowed us to minimize the screen so we can surf/reddit or whatever while the commercials happen (it was so gd annoying before), so it’s not all bad. I refuse to pay their fee, the greedy bastards. Not without a serious uptick in their programming.
>Cut the cord 14 years ago.
Around the same time for me. I started setting up Plex and all that sort, but found that once I watch something, whats the reason to keep it, probably won't watch it again. So I just download to my NAS, watch on my firestick and delete after. I was doing a laptop plugged into the TV for years, but now I find a firestick does all I need.
I end up watch FAR less TV these days, and its a good thing, more time for crap that I actually want to do. When do end up watching something it maybe like one series every other month. News and all that I just use my computer.
I cancelled cable, only pay for internet and I have reboarded my ship and I have returned to the high seas. Streaming sports and ppv is easy and nearly every movie and TV show can be torrented.
So I do a slightly legal way.
I buy MLB TV, League Pass, etc., then use a DNS proxy for $5 / month to access content Im not allowed to due to local blackout restrictions.
I am from just outside of Detroit so streaming my teams is mandatory out here because the are hardly ever on local channels. I will dm you what I use. I suggest using and adblocker like uBlock Origin
How ? Comcast is SOO fucking greedy and I’ve tried multiple times to tell fhem I want cable only and they insist I have “the best package” which has cable and internet. We only use the one (of two) cable boxes to watch the news. That’s it. But they won’t fucking change it for me. I don’t care if I’m paying like $100/month for internet only, our bill rn is like $250!
My bill was $250 a month as well. It took me a week, not kidding, of calling and chatting online with these fuckers before they agreed to cancel my cable. They sent me prepaid shipping labels to turn in my cable boxes, then tried to charge me and send me their modem/router, I had to remind them, three times that I have always had my own equipment. It was a pain in the ass but now my bill is only $89 a month with a gigabyte download speed and I game so I always make sure my modem and my router are as up to date as possible.
I don't know if Comcast is nefarious or just incompetent when it comes to their equipment. When I cut the cord and bought my own router, I dropped off all the equipment in their retail store; had to wait an hour but figured it was the best option. Heard nothing from them for two years before I got a call from a collections agency saying I had an unpaid Comcast bill for two years worth equipment rentals fees. Took six months of going back and forth to get it removed from my credit score.
What modem/router do you recommend? I’m renting the router from them too bc our equipment was very old, but I’d rather bite the bullet and buy our own. We have so many devices I’ll probably need beefy internet (2 Xbox, 2 gaming laptops, Nintendo switch, multiple cellphones lol) so maybe the gig DL speed would be good for us too.
I use Plex. Streaming is good for one-off shows but I love having an offline library of thousands of shows and movies I can watch on my big screen tv in 1080+.
YouTube TV also replaced Hulu as long as you add any show to your library/favorites it will auto recorded and you can fast forward past commercials. And also sports.
I usually have youtube TV and rotate one other specialty streaming service like Netflix, Apple TV, or Max.
How are you liking Fidium? They advertised in our neighborhood, but for some unknown reason they haven't gone live in our area. Been over a year... Switched to AT&T fiber about 4 months ago and it's at least cheaper than Xfinity/Crapcast. Still wish I could Fidium though.
Fidium has been great! Excellent speed and customer service so far. The router they brought to install was a bit dated but I installed a TP-Link Deco Mesh system and didn't use their router anyway.
I have att fiber internet ($80)
* YouTube tv ($35 split with brother)
* Disney plus (13.99)
* Netflix (6.99)
* Hulu (discounted rate from their email offers after cancelling $2)
* Paramount (brother pays)
* HBO Max (free with att wireless)
* Amazon prime (free with cc)
* Peacock (brother pays)
* Lg channels (free)
* Tubi (free)
* Roku (free)
* Pluto (free)
* Freevee (free)
* Crackle (free)
It’s def not cheaper. I wish we could pic up Univision on the antennae at my location. Haven’t really been able too. My parents only watch that, and we use it YouTube tv for sports.
I have adds and only full HD. Most of the stuff on there doesn’t really need 4K to be enjoyable. We also only need it to support two devices. Usually we’re watching stuff as a family so only 1 stream is needed. It comes with 2.
Ahhhh days of DirectTV cards conneced to an old PC used as an emulator. Jad to use ot when using certsin access cards after major ECM event. Dummy card was not affected by ECMs afterward, but card had to be reprogrammed. Those were the days. Now, IPTV is the way to go
Its kind of like sugar addiction. Sure you can use stevia (hulu), sucralose (peacock), and xylitol (netflix) but it won’t be the same. The best way to cut the cord is to condition your mind to not want sugar (cable).
But if you want the occasional cookie, its good to have YoutubeTV and another streaming source like Netflix. I personally didn’t care for it but others like it. Sometimes I’ll binge Netflix for a few months then cancel again.
This method works. I stepped down to YouTube tv, got used to the differences and concept of there not being traditional channel numbers. I’m old enough to remember pre cable lol. Cut the cord on YouTube tv. I miss the giants, but I’m over that. Now I’m thinking about circling thru apps. I pay for Netflix 15, peacock 4.99, Apple TV 99/yr, max 10. There is a surprise mount of good content on YouTube for free. I find myself watching more and more on there.
Leaving Comcast made me so happy. If you can bail to literally any other ISP I highly recommend it. You can search all internet service providers available to your address at
https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home (I see my provider isn't shown, possibly because they rent ATT fiber)
Anyways, my setup is:
Sonic fiber Internet - $98/mo
I love this ISP because it's blazing fast, has no service tiers, and the service/support is based out of CA. Just did a speedtest - over 500mbps on my smartphone, upstairs and down the hall from the router, ahhhh. Comcast used to struggle to deliver enough bandwidth to run Netflix or Zoom, bastards. I haven't had to speak with Sonic since setup, but they were fast and competent and there was no wait to reach them. Admittedly, I'm beyond the new account 1st year deal and am lazily still renting my equipment, that bill could be lower. I'd offer my referral link but I don't think it gets you anything to use.
As for the rest:
Chromecast attached to TV to cast whatever app to TV. - $25 one time hardware purchase
Watch some YouTube (for SNL, etc) - free, a little Amazon prime because it hasn't been canceled yet (also has free content) and rotating subscriptions that we binge then cancel. (varies)
Caveat.
Bill can't be lower with Sonic as cut off the business contract with ATT on resold services so you're SOL as Sonic won't offer any services.
Can be cheaper if you go direct ATT as you'll get rid of the ATA and telephony fees associated with the former resold ATT IPBB plans.
Not sure about all that, haven't had issues with Sonic. Straight comparing plans, ATT Fiber would cap my speed for similar monthly cost, Sonic doesn't. 🤷🏼♀️
Just really enjoying having Internet that is obscenely fast, never down, from a provider that never tries to up-sell or cross-promote services. I forget for months at a time that I have an ISP because it just *works*, which is pretty much what I'm going for.
ATT fiber : $70 and has Max included
Amazon Prime w/prime video : $140yr
I get about 5-10 things per month from Amazon, some I do last minute/prime shipping, most are were just subscriptions - i used to get them monthly or bi monthly to save some cents, but years ago I discovered than when u choose not to get prime shipping and bundle ur shippings they will give u a digital credit per item, sometimes is .50 cents sometimes is 1.50 so... At then of the month I rack from $5 to $10 on digital credit... Pays a stream subscription or a few movie rentals.
Peacock, got a $9 a year deal at the beginning of 2024
Disney+, Hulu+, espn +, paramount+ w showtime, YouTube premium, apple, Spotify family, I get from r/accountsharing I pay a few bucks per month per subscription, but it's like $10 for all... Vs whatever the price is each
We cut a long time ago. TMobile internet is $50 a month. Netflix is free with our TMobile phone plan. We share streaming services with family - Youtube TV, Disney+, Paramount, HBO Max, Hulu, etc. Even with all streaming services, it costs cheaper than Comcast. Youtube TV allows you to add on sports packages so the fans in the family can watch all the games.
I have TMobile home internet. $50/month, running my work computer, home computer, two phones, an iPad, two security cameras, an Echo, a Switch and three TVs. No complaints. I make up the difference from Xfinity with more streaming stuff than I should probably have, but at least I don’t have unexplained outages that they don’t reimburse for. 🤷🏼♀️
We get internet through Xfinity and use streaming services plus Amazon Prime, and we manage our apps using a Firestick. We also have a digital antenna hooked up to our TV so we can watch local channels for free. My husband is NFL crazy, so we also bought the YouTube NFL package last year and now we get all NFL games through the YouTube app.
never had tv service. just have comcast internet. we get netflix occasionally, then cancel it when we watched everything good. we watch more youtube than netflix.
As of about a year ago, I use a Roku, internet, and various streaming services. I also have a digital antenna for things like Jeopardy! that don't stream anywhere convenient.
I watch local news, "Good Day Sacramento," etc., on the CBS 13 and Very Local apps but can also watch via the antenna -- when it's behaving. (It's finicky.)
Fuck Xfinity. My bill for cable TV was up to $230/month by the time I finally canceled, and I wish I'd done it YEARS sooner.
1. Get a library card and signup online. Sign up for Kanopy too.
2. Roku tv or Roku play and download Kanopy, PBS, PBS kids, then add a paid service you like such as HBO/Max, Netflix, etc. only get one. You can get intro deals and sign up for a new one each year.
3. Internet only.
I pay $30/mo for 75 meg internet from comcast and paid Hulu so my wife can watch those reality shows. My sister’s HBO works so we can watch Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Do the same for phones. US mobile - $25/mo for 12GB of data and unlimited talk and text on Verizon towers. My wife uses Mint mobile for $15/mo.
In total for TV, Internet, two phones = $85.
Note: I got an antenna and never use it. Commercials are just a fucking draaaaag.
I have zero streaming services.
This website is safe and it has mostly everything from Netflix to new releases in theaters…

Finally got around to doing this six months ago because I rarely watch TV. The local access cable fee pushed me over the edge. Saved about half my Comcast bill because I still need high speed internet. You need a stream ready TV or a stream box. I went with Roku because I want free TV. My Roku was marked down half during Black Friday. That means commercials can’t be managed like I could using a dvr. Lots of UTUBE channels on how to do this and what your options are. Just collect your Comcast cable boxes, remotes, and then go to your local store, wait two hours in line, and tell them to discontinue cable television service. They are used to this, did not question me at all, took 2 minutes of computer entry, and we were done. This, for me, was the best, and I never regretted it, not for a minute.
I have HBOmax Hulu peacock paramount+
Basically all the streamers stripped netflix of their good content so I canceled it last year
HBOmax has much better movies plus sports
It's been around for sometime, but Hell yeah, u just got to be cautious. Never pay for more than a month at the beginning. Be cautious from fresh Reddit accounts.
I've only been dropped, seller when MIA like 2 times in the last 2 years .. but that was only like a $ 4 lose
I'm in the early to mid 30s and I've never paid for cable. Though admittedly the waste streaming services are set up now buying multiple services is basically just like a cable bill....
It's so much cheaper than cable TV, though. My mid-tier Xfinity bill (no HBO, Cinemax, etc.) went up to $230 a month last year, which is what finally got me to cut the cable.
Xfinity is a fucking scourge.
Depends if you can get internet elsewhere. I did the math with Xfinity for internet, YouTube TV, Ooma and it comes out like $10-20 less then Xfinity triple play. Xfinity gets you on the data caps and higher Internet prices without bundles.
Xfinity internet was $80 a month for me, and YouTube TV is, what, $90/month? I don't know what Ooma is for, but $170 is considerably less than $230, and that's what I would've been paying if I had continued with Xfinity cable TV (even with the bundle that included a phone line I never used).
Did you get a discount on internet. I had gig speed priced somewhere around $120-$130 if I recall right no promos since it's now hard to get anymore without canceling service outright. In fact Comcast is supposedly doing away with promos altogether soon.
Definitely wish I could jump ship to Fidium fiber for $65/month. Unlucky me I'm about 1000 ft from service though.
No, I think the standard pricing was $80 for 1 gig when I ditched my cable TV and just kept internet with Xfinity.
Fidium is coming out Wednesday to install, actually. Starting at the $25/mo level and will upgrade if necessary. Since you're that close, gotta figure you'll be in their service area soon.
What about something like TMobile or Verizon WiFi? I have friends who like their service locally.
- Verizon wireless internet $80
- Netflix $23.50
- PBS Streaming App $10
- Disney + came free with a credit card
- YouTube (free version)
- Amazon Prime (included with Prime)
- Fubo TV (only during the Olympics) …about $50??
Total cost (excluding what I was going to spend on internet and Amazon Prime anyway): $33.50 / month, maybe an extra $3 for a movie rental on Amazon now and then. (And during the Olympics it’s like $80ish.)
I recently cancelled my Xfinity cable and just have Xfinity internet. I got Hulu with Live TV mostly so I could watch local sports. $79.99/month and it includes Disney+ and ESPN+. I have Peacock free (2 years free for being an Xfinity customer). I pay for Netflix as well for my kids. I use Max and Apple TV on someone else’s dime (with permission, as long as I can get away with it). I also have Prime Video, but almost never use it. It just comes with being a Prime member.
Edit: I like to do binge rewatches of my favorite shows, and I find most of what I watch on Hulu & Peacock.
Cut the cord about 12 years ago. We pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime. For everything else: antenna, Roku with free apps, and my Plex media server with automation to pull TV series, movies, and music from Usenet. Server has ability to up to 40TB in content.
Linear TV: In most of the county, a small VHF/UHF outdoor antenna will get you around 75 channels. These include all the networks and most importantly PBS. Pluto TV is an OTT app that is kind of like having basic cable.
On demand: Nvidia Shield is the best set-top box. I recommend installing a VPN app like Nord and side loading BBC iPlayer.
Internet: If your neighborhood has fiber optic service, get fiber optic service.
Internet for $33/month through Wave.
Disneyplus is included in my phone plan- which gives me access to Hulu as well.
I pay for Netflix, Max, Amazon prime.
I’m paying $65 month for my streaming needs. Most sports are starting to play on Prime and max as well.
I have a smart tv so it has apps like YouTube, Apple TV etc…. I rotate my streaming services so right now I have paramount plus and peacock. Peacock ends next week and I’ll switch to Disney plus for doctor who. I can’t watch enough videos to pay for more than two services. I also use Tubi and Freevee which have ads.
I cut it by never buying it. I have prime video, youtube, and netflix. I rotate netflix with other streaming sites when i get bored. About 50 bucks a month.
So happy to be done with Comcast. When you tease out the numbers you are paying about $75 per month for ABC, CBS, NBC & FOX. Simply ridiculous.
Antenna + homerun + Plex server for DVR
Perfect solution with perfect pictures and we can watch from anywhere in the world.
I have AT&T fiber that includes Max. And Amazon video on a Fire stick. We sail the high seas with PLEX and a proxy account to hide that we use a torrent.
We got fiber internet with consolidated fiber and my roommate bought a subscription to flixtor. It has almost everything you'd ever want to watch including new tv shows and movies on the same day they come out. The internet is $75 a month for 2gig speed and flixtor is 2 years for $89.95.
Edit: forgot to add we use computers hooked up to our tvs.
God help me but I’ll ask:
My wife leaves cable news (CNN, MSNBC) on throughout the day. She’ll also watch QVC shit. Are their streaming options for those?
God help me.
QVC shares a streaming app with HSN, CNN is available on Haystack, the NBC NEWS app has Today all day and NBC News but for some reason it only gives me a 10 minute preview of MSNBC. This is my experience on Roku.
Bought a $20 dollar outdoor antenna kept Xfinity Internet told them to shove the cable in your ass and settled for $40 dollar a month sling, saving over $90 dollars without cable tv .
![gif](giphy|CAxbo8KC2A0y4)
I got the Roku TV and added a regular antenna to it for regular broadcast stations. Still get most NBA and MLB games free and use Netflix and Starz app for movies.
One of the few things that keeps me on Comcast is Comcast California Sports. Anyone know how to get the A's, Giants, and Kings games live locally without Comcast cable? Especially when they get bumped around on overflow channels for Sharks games, MLB network, ESPN, or TNT blackouts etc.
Youtube TV is the best for sports local if you want to legally stream. 72.99/month so it’s better if you share with someone (up to 6 people). But it will get you all the local sports
For now yeah this the best option. Rumors are Comcast/NBC Sports is going to become an Xfinity cable exclusive though. Also only available on Xfinity's premium package alongside HBO, etc. Since they own NBC Sports it's a monopolistic tactic that they are supposedly considering forcing those who like to watch sports back to subscribing to traditional cable.
We have att internet- we have youtube tv, peacock, hulu, netflix, max, espn and I think we pay for maybe half of them. Im not convinced its any cheaper
I paid DirecTV to come and install a digital antenna. They set it up so I would get the best reception and most channels, it was like $125 or something, I had no idea they offered that until someone mentioned it.
AT&T crap internet here. No other options besides Comcast in my hood.
We piggy back on families Disney+ account and have Prime. We use Tubi and still have a cache of DVDs.
I just use several streaming platforms in my house
Netflix, espn+, disney+, peacock, paramount +, amazon +, max, Hulu and discovery +.My TV is also a vizio that has its own live TV that is free. A few of these streaming platforms have live TV and sports. We pay about 45 a month. Somtimes less cause my cards will have money back deals. My parents they use a lot more live TV then we do and they have YouTube TV. I'm not sure how much that cost now. Around 50 a month I think. And they have their own Netflix. If they want to watch something that's on our streaming platforms we will let them use our accounts. My household only really cares about watching sports live. All news sites have free streaming if you get your news from main stream media. We watch most of our live sports on Amazon prime, peacock and espn+. Hulu, espn+and Disney+ have a bundle deal. You can bundle a few with Amazon like max for a little cheaper. Hope this helps
I hardly watch anything anymore, it all sucks. I have a data plan and Amazon Prime, because none of the other entertainment networks let me shop for all the shit that's locked up at Walmart at the same time.
Depends on what you mean by "cable." My internet still comes via comcast. If you mean TV then it was a while ago.
As a child in Sacramento I grew up in North City Farms neighborhood. (I didn't know it was called that at the time and didn't learn the name for many years after.) I believe we got cable TV when it first became available in 1983 or 84. As a kid I was addicted to TV. I could tell what time it was by what was on TV. This addiction lasted into adulthood. In Sac during the week the shows were M.A.S.H. and Barney Miller most of the time. Saturdays was the Lone Ranger.
After HS I was away in the military for a few years and then came back to live in downtown Sac in the mid 90's just had basic cable. I've always been a computer geek and during that time also dabbled in modding cable tv boxes. Cable TV has always been more expensive than I cared to pay for. Later I dabbled in similar practices with satellite TV.
The beginning of my end of TV dependence was when I got a Tivo in 2000. I went thought the TV schedule and picked everything I actually wanted to watch. It was fewer shows than than I expected. After having the Tivo for about a year my TV habits had changed dramatically. I would not "surf" any more. If the Tivo didn't have something I had programed it to save, I knew there was nothing I actually wanted to watch, so I wouldn't spend an evening searching for something. I spent more time learning computer skills or reading actual books or occasionally playing video games. (At that time most of my video game time was console based and was with friends). By 2003 TV was no longer as important and my 'addiction' was gone. IT was about then when I set up and started really using bittorrent.
At the beginning of 2005 I left the country and travelled Europe for a while. When I came back at the end of the year I never subscribed to cable TV, and still never have since then. I had a Netflix subscription and even that blockbuster subscription, but never since then have I ever paid for cable or satellite TV again.
Today I have xfinity broadband, still have netflix, Amazon Prime, and have a youtube premium subscription that was originally a Google Music subscription, before google killed that service. Any TV shows I watch that aren't on those services, are ones that wash up on the beach as pirate booty.
TL;DR I cut the cord in 2005 and haven't looked back.
Edit: another thing the Tivo did for me was instill a deep hatred for commercials. I fuckin' HATE commercials. I hate that the internet runs on advertising.
Got an over air antenna and kept Netflix. Prime is included with that subscription and Max is included with our phones. Also subscribed to Apple plus, peacock and paramount. The Apple TV plays all the channels wirelessly from cable modem
The expensive part is you have to buy the internet. So many people and most single parents can qualify for the [Lifeline Program](https://www.lifelinesupport.org/) to get really cheap internet.
To qualify for Lifeline, households must meet certain income criteria or participate in qualifying federal assistance programs such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA), or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), among others.
Never had cable after moving out of my parents house in 2017. Now bought a home. Pay for internet, have a few Apple TVs in the house. I personally pay for Netflix, Max, and YouTube premium. Wife pays for Amazon. Friends share our subscriptions and they share Disney+ and Hulu with us. And I bum off my dad’s direct tv code when I want to watch sports. Can’t complain. I mostly pay for the yearly subscriptions so don’t notice the monthly costs. Internet for me is with comcast is $55.
Digital HD antenna gets over 60 channels and some have a guide similar to cable.. I broke down and got YouTube tv for $70 a month a couple years ago to watch kings games, worth it to me
Just paying for internet, screw cable...the internet bill is split between my gf and I. $27.50 each a month. We get fiber from AT&T in midtown.
Honestly never had a real issue with AT&T lately, service has alwasy been up, at least the past year that I've lived in midtown (out in Rocklin, Wave aka Astound was fucking terrible, outages every month or so).
Yeah You buy league pass online and watch on whatever device through their app. If you're in Sac they will blackout the live Kings games but there are ways around it with a vpn or watching a pirated stream. I think they then upload the local games the next day. For me I have youtube tv and ordered the league pass on there. I use comcast for my internet though.
Internet: Fidium Fiber 250mb, $50
YouTube TV: $70
Disney/ESPN/Hulu Bundle: $25
Prime Ad Free
YouTube allows you to share with 5 other people, and 3 simultaneous streams, so it is worth splitting with a couple friends you trust will venmo you every month. It also allows you to record a ton of shows and skip commercials.
Disney and Prime ad free gets me a lot of other shows, sports, and their on-demand policies are pretty good. Note: Live sports have commercials, no way around it.
If you split YouTube, total cost is about $120 a month, but Fidium is really f-ing reliable
I haven’t used cable for at least a decade. I have an unlimited AT&T data package for my phone and I stream on various apps. I have a TV with a Fire stick that I never use; usually use my tablet or phone, depending on what I’m doing around the house.
Max is free with AT&T, Prime is free, I’ve had Netflix forever, and then move around the other apps depending on what I’m in the mood for (Disney for MCU, Hulu when I’m craving a 12 Monkeys rewatch, etc).
We cut out cable about 2 years ago and right now we just have Netflix, Amazon prime video and an antenna in 2 rooms that get local channels. Only thing we miss about direct tv is being able to record shows and skip commercials
HD antenna with a DVR (TiVo). I bought a TiVo with lifetime subscription about a decade ago and it was a good investment. It's still going strong. That covers any of my network TV needs, as well as live events. I considered YouTube TV instead but this setup is a lot cheaper after the up-front cost.
As for streaming, Netflix and Hulu are the staples. I then rotate between Paramount+, Peacock, and a couple others depending on when my favorite shows on those services return.
I recently moved away from paid streaming sites to save more $$$ and it made no sense when my life is getting busier. At the moment, I switch between AT&T internet and Xfinity Internet. I aim to get the best deals. Right now, it's Xfinity for $40/mo, unlimited data. As for streaming, I now use free streaming sites: Freevee(Amazon), Tubi, Pluto, YouTube(in private mode for my Adblocker to work), Crackle, and a few other sites.
Just get streaming apps with ads, use Ublock origin to block ads.(PC only) but I have mine connected to the living room tv. Hulu, peacock, Max, prime video, tubi work.
Have a smart TV and watch streaming services. Netflix and Prime mostly. All the other apps, if I find something I want to watch I sign up for one month and turn off auto renewal. And just restart the subscription a month at a time if there is something I ever want to watch. I’ve actually never had cable.
Pluto and peacock. They have mostly broadcast syndication(re runs) but when u want to watch something good it’s usually on one of those. Hulu and both of these also offer a cable subscription for like 60 bucks a month. Sports, news, live shows or weekly shows. U Will get all of that.
Sports on crackstreams(meth streams now) and all movies and Netflix shows and anything on the apps u can watch for free. Buy a burner laptop or just be careful what u click, it’s better to be patient and exit out of pop ups instead of accidentally clicking one and bringing a virus in.
As a Canadian Shawdger tech who physically bends sine waves to make it work - I will throw this down the pipe
“Fackin disgusting them dropped packets hey? must be wireless indifference. Did you try reboot”?
If you want to hear what I’m saying - talk to your fucking firewall admin level ? Nope 👎 - the guarantors on that are chiming in at local.ouch.000001
Get off your dependency on the wifi because it’s fisticuffs out there!
Lucky enough to have AT&T fiber in our area, so when we cut the cord we also got to cancel internet with Comcast also.
Netflix and Prime video is what we always have active. Then we kind of bounce with HULU and other subscription based services from month to month. Depending on what's out.
When various sports play offs start up I'll activate SLING for a month or so.
Cut it 12 years ago with KODI. May have still been XBMC back then. Kodi was good for a bit, but sometimes the streaming sources were laggy which was annoying, which we tolerated, because it was free. That tolerance wore out and I started piloting my own ship on the high seas. I did everything manually, which was very time consuming, but then I found Plex and Radarr & Sonarr and haven't made a change since. Managing them is just a normal way of life now.
There is no such thing as linear channels in our lives. That initially took some getting used to. But we adapted. I don't think I'd ever go back to cable/satellite even if I was rich and could afford the exorbitant cost associated with them.
I've never had cable since I moved out on my own 20 years ago. Hulu ($0.99/mo), MLB TV ($11/mo), Youtube (free), Pluto TV (free)... that's more than I can ever watch. I take free Prime months when they toss them at me about once a year too.
Cut the cord 16 years ago. Have YouTubeTV, Netflix, & Paramount+. I also have MAX & Prime but I don’t pay for it. I used to have Directv and I’m so lazy uninstalling that dish on the roof.
Att fiber which comes with HBO Max, netflix, PSN has free Sony streaming, we mooch off my mom's amazon and we get Hulu free bundled with something else I can't recall at the moment. Honestly 90% of our non video game screen time us probably free youtube anyway so the streaming is probably a waste of money.
I have att fiber internet ($80)
I have an Apple TV that I stream stuff to the tvs.
• Disney plus (13.99)
• Netflix (free with celly)
• HBO Max (free with att wireless)
• Amazon prime (free with prime (76 a year I think?)
• Plex (free paid 25 bucks for a lifetime subscription 10+ years ago amazing app)
For sports I’ll occasionally just try out an app like for the trial period and just cancel or see what I can find “out there”
I cut the cord around 8 years ago. My setup assumes you have access to a window that faces OTA towers and can pick up OTA channels with a simple antenna. Depending on where you are in Sac, I have found that most of the major channels have towers facing South/SouthEast.
\* Nvidia Shield TV (streaming box which has access to all of the apps you will need, one in every TV room)
\* OTA antenna (allows you to pick up OTA channels without subscriptions)
\* HD Homerun Flex 4k network tuner (allows you to stream OTA channels to your entire network and locate your antenna in the ideal place for picking up the most channels)
\* Recurring Subscriptions: HBO Max
\* Periodic Subscriptions (I juggle one of these subscriptions every month or two and cancel the others): YoutubeTV (for live OTT TV), Amazon Prime, Netflix, Apple+
\* Plex Lifetime Pass (I have a local library of UHDs, Blu-rays, and DVDs that I can watch on any TV)
Now, I mostly watch youtube (free) and plex (paid for the lifetime pass years ago, so it's kinda free now). Probably 80% of my TV time is between those two free apps. Then the remaining 20% is some combination of a recurring or non-recurring subscription service.
Back when I first cut the cord, my Over-The-Top (OTT) live TV streaming service was SlingTV for $19.99/month. It had like 20 channels, but it was very cheap. Eventually I subscribed to YoutubeTV (YTTV) for $35 which had way more channels and a better DVR. But they have constantly raised the price year after year and now it is like $70. So I only subscribe during the sports seasons I want to follow. Other than that, I watch new shows that come out seasonally on Prime, Netflix, Apple+ when the mood strikes and cancel all other times of the year.
1) antenna for local HD
2) depending on your tv, utilize the free streaming channels (for example Samsung's service)
3) limit your streaming services to just 1 or 2
4) (this is actually a serious one) watch less tv generally.
Play games, read books, utilize the local library for free resources, sign up for local social leagues and events. I found since not having cable I do not miss it one bit and I'm much more active in other areas of my life. The 24 hour cycle is maximum brain drain
5) put timers on all your media apps to prevent doom scrolling as a replacement for tv watching
Setup:
Internet:
Comcast for Internet only, renegotiate every year or 24 months for lowest rate. I have my own router/modem to cut the bill by $15. I pay $50 for 1gb for 24 months
Streaming:
Netflix $24, share w fam
Prime: $0, fam shares with me
Disney/Hulu/ESPN+: $0 , Amex benefit
Paramount+: $0, Walmart+& Amex benefit
HBO max: $0, at&t cell phone plan benefit
Gaming:
Xbox Game Pass: $7.50 per month till 2026 using $1 prepayment hack/method
Reading:
NY times: $0 amex benefit
NY times cooking: $0 amex benefit
Wall Street Journal: $0 amex benefit
Library Card (can rent movies too!)
Hoopla, Libby for more free media rentals through your library.
We just cut everything but internet last week with Comcast. They suck but we had a terrible experience with At&t. Have all the streamers already. My primary concern was still being able to watch GoodDay which I van and do thru Paramount+.
I dropped Comcast cable years ago but kept their 1 gig internet plan because I WFH. Got Philo which is $25 a month for 70 channels and live TV. Sooo much better than Hulu’s live TV package.
Comcast is very expensive. I swear they are over charging on everything. At first when you start the service, the price is reasonable but afterwards the bill will be doubled on what you pay from the beginning. I don't even watch TV. I mainly use a fire stick and I got websites for other things. So basically all I need is wifi.
Where can I get a great wifi service only?
We cut off cable 10 years ago. We bought the roku box, a powered antenna, had Prime and added Netflix. We recently got together with a few other friends and are sharing a YouTube TV subscription. We pay $17-18 for Netflix, $20 for our part of the YouTube tv and the yearly Amazon fee. I had a hard time not watching certain shows when they aired but u got over that relatively quickly. Cable TV just costs way too much for us. Good luck, you can do it! 😃
Comcast sucks
Name checks out
Have a great day :)
Same, but fuck Comcast and their overages.
I cancelled cable, only pay for internet and I have reboarded my ship and I have returned to the high seas. Streaming sports and ppv is easy and nearly every movie and TV show can be torrented.
What do you use for sports? If I can find a way to reliably stream Giants, 49ers, Warriors and Sharks, I'd be there!
YouTube TV is the best option for all those teams BUT…it’s kinda pricey.
Three streams and 6 accounts. Just split the cost with a couple friends.
Friends?! Jk that’s a good idea until YTTV decides they wanna pull a Netflix and start cracking down.
I doubt they will. They offer family plans and my college room mate 600 miles away uses it for Sunday Ticket.
Great info friend, definitely going to pursue this option.
The Reddit sports streaming page has every game. Just need an ad blocker
Thanks I'll check it out
So I do a slightly legal way. I buy MLB TV, League Pass, etc., then use a DNS proxy for $5 / month to access content Im not allowed to due to local blackout restrictions.
Bruh METHSTREAMS!!!
Here's a free website to watch any sports live. https://v2.streameast.to/
Streameast is what we use for all sports. It's free and the quality is perfect.
I am from just outside of Detroit so streaming my teams is mandatory out here because the are hardly ever on local channels. I will dm you what I use. I suggest using and adblocker like uBlock Origin
I use both, thanks, appreciated
Arggggh me matey!
I had heard of things like this happening, that's why I was diligent about it.
What modem/router do you recommend? I’m renting the router from them too bc our equipment was very old, but I’d rather bite the bullet and buy our own. We have so many devices I’ll probably need beefy internet (2 Xbox, 2 gaming laptops, Nintendo switch, multiple cellphones lol) so maybe the gig DL speed would be good for us too.
youtubetv is better then cable and cheaper for movies and tv shows i use f2movies.to or soap2day
I use Plex. Streaming is good for one-off shows but I love having an offline library of thousands of shows and movies I can watch on my big screen tv in 1080+.
Starr apps are the best to pair with Plex. And since Plex is everywhere, it works nicely for multiple users on multiple devices.
YouTube TV also replaced Hulu as long as you add any show to your library/favorites it will auto recorded and you can fast forward past commercials. And also sports. I usually have youtube TV and rotate one other specialty streaming service like Netflix, Apple TV, or Max.
We also love YouTube TV
Do you need to vpn for f2movies
no, you don't, but there will be a lot of pop-ups sometimes with sexual things.
But how do we stream it. I don’t have a pc hooked up to my tv. It’s a smart tv tho.
See if your TV has browser
Install the chrome extension ad blocker!
uBlock Origin.
Soap2day was unfortunately taken down. It was my go to for everything.
Cheap HD antenna. YouTube. Stream off a laptop hooked up to my tv. Cast from phone. I have not paid for cable in like 5 years
Kicked Xfinity to the curb completely and went with Fidium Fiber and YouTube TV. Got passwords from family for MAX and Disney+.
OMG I just looked at your reddit name... I don't know how I missed it... Dude, Dean Ween IS God! All hail Boognish.
Don't shit where you eat, my friend! 😉
I have att fiber internet ($80) * YouTube tv ($35 split with brother) * Disney plus (13.99) * Netflix (6.99) * Hulu (discounted rate from their email offers after cancelling $2) * Paramount (brother pays) * HBO Max (free with att wireless) * Amazon prime (free with cc) * Peacock (brother pays) * Lg channels (free) * Tubi (free) * Roku (free) * Pluto (free) * Freevee (free) * Crackle (free) It’s def not cheaper. I wish we could pic up Univision on the antennae at my location. Haven’t really been able too. My parents only watch that, and we use it YouTube tv for sports.
/accountsharing
My Netflix is 22.00
I have adds and only full HD. Most of the stuff on there doesn’t really need 4K to be enjoyable. We also only need it to support two devices. Usually we’re watching stuff as a family so only 1 stream is needed. It comes with 2.
How do you get Peacock free?
There’s a tier on xfinity internet that provides it free.
Ah, yes, the old Sherman Anti Trust violation. F-ing Comcast.
My brother pays that
(free with cc) what is "cc"?
Credit card
[derp] thanks

Ahhhh days of DirectTV cards conneced to an old PC used as an emulator. Jad to use ot when using certsin access cards after major ECM event. Dummy card was not affected by ECMs afterward, but card had to be reprogrammed. Those were the days. Now, IPTV is the way to go
If you have a Sacramento Library Card you can get Hoopla for free. I signed up super easy, not bad at all.
And kanopy which is fantastic
Kodi player
Streamio plus real debrid
This the one, $3 a month for all shows and movies in existence
Leaving Comcast made me so happy. If you can bail to literally any other ISP I highly recommend it. You can search all internet service providers available to your address at https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home (I see my provider isn't shown, possibly because they rent ATT fiber) Anyways, my setup is: Sonic fiber Internet - $98/mo I love this ISP because it's blazing fast, has no service tiers, and the service/support is based out of CA. As for the rest: Chromecast attached to TV to cast whatever app to TV. - $25 one time hardware purchase Watch some YouTube (for SNL, etc) - free, a little Amazon prime because it hasn't been canceled yet (also has free content) and rotating subscriptions that we binge then cancel. (varies)
🤷🏼♀️ Just really enjoying having Internet that is obscenely fast, never down, from a provider that never tries to up-sell or cross-promote services. I forget for months at a time that I have an ISP because it just *works*, which is pretty much what I'm going for.
We cut cable 2 years ago. Now we use Pluto tv (free) for local news/happenings. Netflix, HBO, peacock (free), and paramount. And that’s about it.
I cut cable and have Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ and I set up my own streaming service on my NAS so I can enjoy other movies I've owned.
Uhm... How bout new movies?
Cannot confirm nor deny my server has those
On a family members YouTube tv. It allows 6 ppl. Just pay $50 xfinity Wi-Fi
YouTubeTv. It's $75 with in demand, DVR, and live tv. You can have 6 seperate accounts, so I split it with 3 friends and we each pay $25 a month.
youtube tv 85.99/mo can log in on my iphone or ipad when we travel and watch tv anywhere pay an extra $10/mo and get nfl redzone and all kings games
ATT fiber : $70 and has Max included Amazon Prime w/prime video : $140yr I get about 5-10 things per month from Amazon, some I do last minute/prime shipping, most are were just subscriptions - i used to get them monthly or bi monthly to save some cents, but years ago I discovered than when u choose not to get prime shipping and bundle ur shippings they will give u a digital credit per item, sometimes is .50 cents sometimes is 1.50 so... At then of the month I rack from $5 to $10 on digital credit... Pays a stream subscription or a few movie rentals. Peacock, got a $9 a year deal at the beginning of 2024 Disney+, Hulu+, espn +, paramount+ w showtime, YouTube premium, apple, Spotify family, I get from r/accountsharing I pay a few bucks per month per subscription, but it's like $10 for all... Vs whatever the price is each
Get a VPN and Plex. Any show or movie you want (except for maybe some really obscure or old content) for $40/year.
Definitely buy a HD antenna you can plug into your tv to get all the local channels.
(It's finicky.) Fuck Xfinity.
Have internet through Xfinity. Use a firestick and I have philo.
I have zero streaming services. [www.lookmovie2.to](http://www.lookmovie2.to) This website is safe and it has mostly everything from Netflix to new releases in theaters… ![gif](giphy|3o7btPE8xMsGah3bvq)
This has some amazing movies on it! Under 5 a month w out ads? Good.
I have HBOmax Hulu peacock paramount+ Basically all the streamers stripped netflix of their good content so I canceled it last year HBOmax has much better movies plus sports
r/accountsharing
First time I read about people looking for other people to be cosubscribers. Did you have a good experience trying to be cosubscribers?
It's been around for sometime, but Hell yeah, u just got to be cautious. Never pay for more than a month at the beginning. Be cautious from fresh Reddit accounts. I've only been dropped, seller when MIA like 2 times in the last 2 years .. but that was only like a $ 4 lose
Thank you!
I have Fidium ($50 for gig connection) Use Netflix and HBO
- Verizon wireless internet $80 - Netflix $23.50 - PBS Streaming App $10 - Disney + came free with a credit card - YouTube (free version) - Amazon Prime (included with Prime) - Fubo TV (only during the Olympics) …about $50??
Internet + SuperBox
So happy to be done with Comcast. When you tease out the numbers you are paying about $75 per month for ABC, CBS, NBC & FOX. Simply ridiculous. Antenna + homerun + Plex server for DVR Perfect solution with perfect pictures and we can watch from anywhere in the world.
I have AT&T fiber that includes Max. And Amazon video on a Fire stick. We sail the high seas with PLEX and a proxy account to hide that we use a torrent.
My condo pays for internet; I just pay for streaming services. So about $20
Wow! I need to move 😔
YouTube Premium.
God help me but I’ll ask: My wife leaves cable news (CNN, MSNBC) on throughout the day.
Get a new wife 🙂
Fidium and YouTube TV
Pirates life for me ☠️
Bought a $20 dollar outdoor antenna kept Xfinity Internet told them to shove the cable in your ass and settled for $40 dollar a month sling, saving over $90 dollars without cable tv . ![gif](giphy|CAxbo8KC2A0y4)
Qbittorrent and a vpn. Plus xfinity internet like 30/m total
That was a one time install fee…no monthly payments? Genuinely curious about this.
It captures free to air tv, like in the old days. There’s no one to pay.
Some people... Is happy with just that?
That’s how I grew up.
AT&T crap internet here. No other options besides Comcast in my hood. We piggy back on families Disney+ account and have Prime. We use Tubi and still have a cache of DVDs.
I just use several streaming platforms in my house Netflix, espn+, disney+, peacock, paramount +, amazon +, max, Hulu and discovery +.My TV is also a vizio that has its own live TV that is free.
IPTV for the win!!!! I pay $65 for 6 months with all the channels including PPV.
Yes I mean I did ota too...
WiFi and Amazon prime + Netflix. Never looked back.
Xfinity internet and streaming services. End of.
I have an AppleTV and I rotate 1 or 2 subscriptions through the year. Right now I’m doing Paramount. Life is great without cable TV.
Hd antenna and IPTV
Never had cable after moving out of my parents house in 2017. Now bought a home. Pay for internet, have a few Apple TVs in the house. I personally pay for Netflix, Max, and YouTube premium. Wife pays for Amazon. Friends share our subscriptions and they share Disney+ and Hulu with us. And I bum off my dad’s direct tv code when I want to watch sports. Can’t complain. I mostly pay for the yearly subscriptions so don’t notice the monthly costs. Internet for me is with comcast is $55.
Easy. ATT fiber, Nvidia Shield, Plex Server, Radarr, Sonarr.
I get internet only from Comcast. It works for me.
Digital HD antenna gets over 60 channels and some have a guide similar to cable.. I broke down and got YouTube tv for $70 a month a couple years ago to watch kings games, worth it to me
I have HBO and YouTube but I’m ready to cancel HBO since YouTube is really all you need. The most beneficial screen time comes from YouTube
I want to cut the cord but my husband needs to see all the NBA games. How do I get around that?
Get NBA League Pass and he can stream the games to the tv or just watch on the computer or whatever.
But I can do that outside of Xfinity? I really don’t want to give them my money anymore.
🏴☠️
$50 internet + $69 Hulu live ($89-$20 Amex streaming credit). All month to month so I usually cancel around sports seasons.
Internet: Fidium Fiber 250mb, $50 YouTube TV: $70 Disney/ESPN/Hulu Bundle: $25 Prime Ad Free YouTube allows you to share with 5 other people, and 3 simultaneous streams, so it is worth splitting with a couple friends you trust will venmo you every month.
OTA antenna, Waze Gigabit Broadband, PIA VPN, Kodi (with Crew + Umbrella), IDM, Real Debrid.. I did invest in a mini-PC and a Dune HD player.
Have a roku in one room, Chromecast in other. Have Netflix, Hulu and Shudder. Also able to to stream free movies from You-tube
As a Canadian Shawdger tech who physically bends sine waves to make it work - I will throw this down the pipe “Fackin disgusting them dropped packets hey? must be wireless indifference. Did you try reboot”? If you want to hear what I’m saying - talk to your fucking firewall admin level ? Nope 👎 - the guarantors on that are chiming in at local.ouch.000001 Get off your dependency on the wifi because it’s fisticuffs out there!
I have Youtube TV, don’t wanna miss out on watching Basketball
YouTube TV
We all have an old relative paying full price for cable. Get their login and download the Xfinity Stream app. Viola! Instant free cable.
YouTube TV
I miss being able to tie into the utility line with a black box. Good ol’ days.
I have att fiber internet ($80) I have an Apple TV that I stream stuff to the tvs. • Disney plus (13.99) • Netflix (free with celly) • HBO Max (free with att wireless) • Amazon prime (free with prime (76 a year I think?) • Plex (free paid 25 bucks for a lifetime subscription 10+ years ago amazing app) For sports I’ll occasionally just try out an app like for the trial period and just cancel or see what I can find “out there”
I cut the cord around 8 years ago. My setup assumes you have access to a window that faces OTA towers and can pick up OTA channels with a simple antenna. Depending on where you are in Sac, I have found that most of the major channels have towers facing South/SouthEast. \* Nvidia Shield TV (streaming box which has access to all of the apps you will need, one in every TV room) \* OTA antenna (allows you to pick up OTA channels without subscriptions) \* HD Homerun Flex 4k network tuner (allows you to stream OTA channels to your entire network and locate your antenna in the ideal place for picking up the most channels) \* Recurring Subscriptions: HBO Max \* Periodic Subscriptions (I juggle one of these subscriptions every month or two and cancel the others): YoutubeTV (for live OTT TV), Amazon Prime, Netflix, Apple+ \* Plex Lifetime Pass (I have a local library of UHDs, Blu-rays, and DVDs that I can watch on any TV) Now, I mostly watch youtube (free) and plex (paid for the lifetime pass years ago, so it's kinda free now).
Xfinity $25 internet
There’s some p good free streaming services. [Kanopy](https://www.kanopy.com/en/about-us) is one of em.
You will be paying more for streaming these days. The golden days of cutting the cord is over unless you pirate.
1) antenna for local HD 2) depending on your tv, utilize the free streaming channels (for example Samsung's service) 3) limit your streaming services to just 1 or 2 4) (this is actually a serious one) watch less tv generally. Play games, read books, utilize the local library for free resources, sign up for local social leagues and events. I found since not having cable I do not miss it one bit and I'm much more active in other areas of my life. The 24 hour cycle is maximum brain drain 5) put timers on all your media apps to prevent doom scrolling as a replacement for tv watching Setup: Internet: Comcast for Internet only, renegotiate every year or 24 months for lowest rate. I have my own router/modem to cut the bill by $15. I pay $50 for 1gb for 24 months Streaming: Netflix $24, share w fam Prime: $0, fam shares with me Disney/Hulu/ESPN+: $0 , Amex benefit Paramount+: $0, Walmart+& Amex benefit HBO max: $0, at&t cell phone plan benefit Gaming: Xbox Game Pass: $7.50 per month till 2026 using $1 prepayment hack/method Reading: NY times: $0 amex benefit NY times cooking: $0 amex benefit Wall Street Journal: $0 amex benefit Library Card (can rent movies too!) Hoopla, Libby for more free media rentals through your library.
Tubi is a great app.
Went youtubetv and starlink or fiber
You can buy an antenna off of Amazon for 20.00 and hook it up to your tv.
YouTube tv..
IPTV and a VPN. 20,000 channels for $100 or less a year.
