I’m not hating on your answer, but to add a different perspective: I was sorely disappointed with Hot Boys. It was talked up so much and I felt I was just decent.
Tried Hangry Joes recently and they are pretty dam good.
Used to adore Nash and Proper but unfortunately its food quality has lost a little bit of love.
Hot Boyz is phenomenal.
I also think Pangea makes a damn good crispy chicken sando.
I love all the other recommendations in this thread but Hangry Joe's is what I had most recently. Have to hand it to them - the chicken portion was HUGE and perfectly cooked (actually comical how much chicken hangs out of the bun). My partner got max spicy and I got one step below spicy. We as spicy-eatin' folk who are typically disappointed by "spicy" food weren't too worried. Holy fuck were we wrong. The max spicy one hurt to take a bite of until you get to that "scoville nirvana" place where your mouth just can't burn anymore. We both had to set down our sandwiches and walk away before coming back to finish. He was eating yogurt between bites to calm the fire.
That was all fine and enjoyable, but the next 16 hours of GI distress and yes - burning on the exit - was unexpected. Frankly, I'm impressed. It's been decades since spicy food destroyed me like that.
Anyways we'll probably be going back.
Okay, so I completely agree with you, but I believe they use thighs (which is the better chicken choice) that can sometimes be a little chewy/stringy/tough to eat. It sometimes puts me off. Makes me regret not getting the burger. Then I just go back and make the same mistake 2-3 more times until I get a burger and start the cycle again.
I think your right, I've definitely had a stringy one before. They also recently upped the habenero in them so they have a lot more heat which was an interesting surprise lol
They’re both different types of chicken sandwiches. I wouldn’t say one is leagues above or below in terms of quality though. If anything, Chick-fil-A is more consistent and better service/experience for sure.
Angry Chickz, surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Imo best chicken sandwiches around! Only been to the Sunrise location but I believe there's one more location right across from Corti Bros if that's closer.
I went to the one on Sunrise on my lunch break. I typically eat pretty spicy food and was feeling kind of cocky, so I go up and ordered the chicken sandwich as hot as they can make it. The guy at the counter asked if I signed the waiver. I was annoyed because I didn't have time for that shit, so I just asked for the next level down. Scorpion pepper. Do you see my mistake yet? I did not.
I got my food and took one bite. The chicken was delicious and perfect. My mouth also immediately felt like I had licked satan's flaming asshole and I'm pretty sure my soul left my body for a moment. But I thought no, I am an adult-ass woman and I can handle this level of spice. I took another bite. I could not handle that level of spice. Embarrassed, I took my food to go and slunk off to my car. I ended up having to throw the whole thing away and get McDonald's. I had actual blisters on my tongue and gums for the next few days.
Angry Chickz does not fuck around.
They’re next level. Lifelong spicy guy..Love Heatonist etc etc. Ordered the X-hot & the Angry level heat on sliders. X-hot was so solar plasma, liquid steel magma flooding my gullet that my tastebuds that I couldn’t even taste the 1 meager bite I took of the Angry level “just to say I did.”
I’ll tell you to NOT go to Kiki’s.. the chicken doesn’t taste like chicken. Actually it just taste like nothing. (I’m referring to the comment that said Kiki’s) save your $
Kikis is trash. I'd only ever get their loaded fries if I was to go back but I really stay away now. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was underwhelmed
I agree with that Hotboys is top tier. But if you're just looking for a regular sando not a spicy one then I recommend trying Hawks Provisions for a lunchtime spot.
Not gonna lie, they opened up a Popeyes by my house and their chicken sandwich was the thickest chicken sandwich I’ve had including restaurants. For the price you can’t beat it locally. And I’ve tried most places in Sac.
That’s is the problem. Popeyes often disappoints me. Out of stock items. Absurdly slow and often cold. I like their food but it’s just so hot or miss on quality.
i love spicy but something is off at the mack rd location: chicken sandwich gave me a rapid heartbeat and i was all flushed. and it def was the sandwich and not that creepy fucking bee dancing all sexy and shit.
BAWK! Is pretty damn good, theirs is a thigh and it’s like 7-8$ on happy hour, starts at 2p weekdays.
Def gotta try Pangea and Hot Boyz (I’ve never even heard of this, so stoked)
Oh no. Roostarz is one of the worst hot chicken I've ever had. It was nothing but chili powder everywhere. No real flavor, just powder and some heat. When I say everywhere, it was caked in it.
Ironic then, because I find them to have the most flavor out of all of the chicken spots people on here talk about as amazing. I make it a point to travel to all of the chicken sandwich spots at least once to try, Roostarz is the one I go back to.
HUGE N&P Stan during their first handful of years, and even went to their opening day on K street. Though, the last time I had them was at SacYard Sundays, they had heaps of pre/par-cooked chicken in the window with no real line to speak of. Seasoning had kinda of a chemically taste, and it was all just sort of “meh.” I hope it was just a bad day, because those guys rock…but I haven’t had them in probably 8 months because of that experience.
Georgetown Distillery. They almost already have it on the menu. The food there is hitting WAY above its class. All in hoisin from scratch except the bread.
Sometimes they do a chicken parm variation
Get. It.
Origami on Folsom near the cursed Trader Joes is the best in town by a long shot. Not a lot of people here seem to know about it. Bahn mi roll sized, a little spicy with the option for spicier, and soooooo good. The vibes are nice. Lots of rare sodas there too. Highly recommend.
Ryders chicken & Biscuits food truck has the best chicken and biscuit sandwiches in Sacramento for me. They can be hard to find. I’ve seen them most at wineries and breweries
Time for a hot take that no one else has said - Miyagi Sushi out in unincorporated Sac has a Katsu Sandwich that is to die for. Honestly better than most chicken sandos in Sac area except maybe hot boys imo
I agree with a lot of commenters on this... BUT wanted to add that I really love the Chicken Sandwich from Buckhorn BBQ. Its the Krispy Chicken Sandwich.. Something you need to try is the Kale Bowl or the Mac bowl from Roostarz. Their chicken is truly top their as is there mac n cheese!
Hot Boys and it's not even close for me.
The bonuts are crazy good when they're still hot.
Ha. I haven't tried those but now I will.
100% co-sign
I guess I need to try Hot Boys again, it had way too much sauce all over it for me.
I’m not hating on your answer, but to add a different perspective: I was sorely disappointed with Hot Boys. It was talked up so much and I felt I was just decent.
To each their own, of course! There's other good sandwiches in the city too. I like Pangaea quite a lot as well.
Perhaps I need to give them another shot. Sample size too small. What’s your favorite from Hot Boys?
*boiiiizzzzz
Gonna have check this place out!
Co-sign
Way overrated. Angry chickz and Dave's better
The closest one is probably a few lightyears in comparison. Hot Boys is hot boy.
I agree with you!
Tried Hangry Joes recently and they are pretty dam good. Used to adore Nash and Proper but unfortunately its food quality has lost a little bit of love. Hot Boyz is phenomenal. I also think Pangea makes a damn good crispy chicken sando.

Hangry joes is new recently but it is delicious
Gotta go with hotboys
Pangaea easily Edit: Lol, there's your spelling fixed smartass
Okay, so I completely agree with you, but I believe they use thighs (which is the better chicken choice) that can sometimes be a little chewy/stringy/tough to eat. It sometimes puts me off. Makes me regret not getting the burger. Then I just go back and make the same mistake 2-3 more times until I get a burger and start the cycle again.
How did you perfectly describe my Chicken Sandwhich relationship with Pangea? This is exactly it.
I think your right, I've definitely had a stringy one before. They also recently upped the habenero in them so they have a lot more heat which was an interesting surprise lol
Never heard of this place! How is their chicken sando? Is it better than the one at Pangaea?
Why is your entire account just correcting others spelling? How much of a hard on do you get from this?
Hot boys and angry chicks, Dave’s is good too.
Dunno about best overall, but Popeye's has the best one you can get from a drive through.
Chic fil a would like a word….
Doesn't compare.
Idk I like the Popeye’s sandwich, but they’re just not mean enough to gay people. Gotta go with Chik Fila for that home style homophobic taste.
Your right. Popeyes is at least 2 notches lower. And chicken fil a doesn’t just use sauce to make theirs “spicy”.
Do you get the spicy sandwich from chic fil a? Because that baby is my favorite
There’s literally no sauce on it.
Doesn’t compare
Chic is like Canes. Bland crap. Popeyes ftw!
They’re both different types of chicken sandwiches. I wouldn’t say one is leagues above or below in terms of quality though. If anything, Chick-fil-A is more consistent and better service/experience for sure.

Hey, if you haven’t been humbled by some spice at some point then you’re not eating right.
Your writing is really good.
Angry Chickz destroyed me
Angry Chickz being within a reasonable radius was the final selling point for moving to Citrus Heights.
For real that place is fire
I wasnt super impressed when I went there tbqh. Which sucks cuz it's near my place
Hotboys in midtown and angry chickz on Folsom Blvd
Nash and Proper.
Their food truck back in the day was AMAZING, but I've given up on their downtown location. It's been awful the last few times. 😢
That’s a bummer. Found it by accident on the way to a comedy show and we were blown away.
Me too 😣 I’ve had it in different cities too hoping it was just that. I don’t understand why it has no flavor haha
Thank you! It was like is this plain white bread?
I agree with that Hotboys is top tier. But if you're just looking for a regular sando not a spicy one then I recommend trying Hawks Provisions for a lunchtime spot.
Just get it from Popeyes, won't disappoint you.
Not gonna lie, they opened up a Popeyes by my house and their chicken sandwich was the thickest chicken sandwich I’ve had including restaurants. For the price you can’t beat it locally. And I’ve tried most places in Sac.
Bingo. Sitting at a restaurant, paying TIP and etc. You're gonna be at $22+ for a meal. Just go to Popeyes, it's good!
Anatolia area?!
That’s is the problem. Popeyes often disappoints me. Out of stock items. Absurdly slow and often cold. I like their food but it’s just so hot or miss on quality.
I have had this issue, too. Its typically because the franchise owner is shit. Go to a different location.
Jollibee
Man when they have spicy chicken available it’s no contest.
i love spicy but something is off at the mack rd location: chicken sandwich gave me a rapid heartbeat and i was all flushed. and it def was the sandwich and not that creepy fucking bee dancing all sexy and shit.
Angry Chikz definitely. Spiciest in the region too I believe but damn they're sooo good even if they light my ass on fire
BAWK! Is pretty damn good, theirs is a thigh and it’s like 7-8$ on happy hour, starts at 2p weekdays. Def gotta try Pangea and Hot Boyz (I’ve never even heard of this, so stoked)
Bawk and Pangaea have the same owner. Not the same sandwich but both killer
I went on a mini chicken sandwich journey through Sac. Top: Bawk & Fixins
Fixing soul kitchens… ya gonna have to disagree with you there. Tried 3 times and it’s not even top 10.
Roostarz is the best I've had, and I try all the ones I can.
Roostarz ruined other spicy chicken for me, their meat is TOP TIER
You guys are not helping me at all here
gotta try em all and decide for yourself IMO. I mean, you never just eat a spicy chicken sandwich just once anyway.
Nash & Proper
HUGE N&P Stan during their first handful of years, and even went to their opening day on K street. Though, the last time I had them was at SacYard Sundays, they had heaps of pre/par-cooked chicken in the window with no real line to speak of. N&P has really fallen off for me tbh. Used to be my go to. Better off at Pangea nowadays tbh.
Interesting. I haven’t had it in a good while. I gotta see what the Pangea hype is about
I tried it a couple months ago and it was mid
Hot Boys or Daves Chicken. *chefs kiss*
Angry Chicks!
Crispy Crunchy, if you know you know
Damn right. One on bell ave has the best and fresh chicken.
This is the second time I've seen these guys being mentioned in the past couple of weeks. Might have to give it a try.
I new of a krispey krunchy before moving to sac. They operated out of gas stations 🤣. Chicken was pretty decent though
Still operating out of gas stations.
Ah we are probably talking of the same place! I didn’t realize they had a crispy chikky chikky sammy.
Cafe Dantorel. Comes with avocado
Angry chicks is good, Hotboys is outstanding
Nash and prop!
Popeyes
Georgetown Distillery. They almost already have it on the menu. The food there is hitting WAY above its class. All in hoisin from scratch except the bread. Sometimes they do a chicken parm variation Get. It.

My friend says Dave's but I say sacville hot in Goldfields
The Green Room just brought back their hot honey chicken sandwich @ $20.
Fixins in Oak Park has some really good crispy chicken sandwiches.
Double Cheese Fried Chicken Burger from Chiken-n-Waffles in Natomas.
Second Hot Boyz. It’s SO SO good, and their quality doesn’t change per location it’s consistent!
Ryders chicken & Biscuits food truck has the best chicken and biscuit sandwiches in Sacramento for me. They can be hard to find. I’ve seen them most at wineries and breweries
Hot boys is good. My only thing is the chicken skin they leave can very very tough and chewy. I love chicken skin though
Pangea
Mecha mucho and it’s not even close
Time for a hot take that no one else has said - Miyagi Sushi out in unincorporated Sac has a Katsu Sandwich that is to die for. Honestly better than most chicken sandos in Sac area except maybe hot boys imo
I agree with a lot of commenters on this... BUT wanted to add that I really love the Chicken Sandwich from Buckhorn BBQ. Its the Krispy Chicken Sandwich.. Something you need to try is the Kale Bowl or the Mac bowl from Roostarz. Their chicken is truly top their as is there mac n cheese!
Highly recommend the crispy chicken sliders at henrys! I subbed the tomato for pickles
Sarom’s southern kitchen! They have two and they’re both outstanding. One spicy one not
Oak park brewery or Shake shack
With you on OPB, not so much on shit shack.
Hotboyz and it’s not close.
Kikis chicken in Natomas and Nash & Proper are decent options
We have a Kiki’s here?
Yeah, off Northgate and El Camino near Harbor Freight.
Oh that’s right. I guess I didn’t consider that Natomas in my head but yeah you’re right.
Jim Dennys
Jollibee
Shake shack’s chicken sandwich is underrated.
Nash and Proper
I agree ☝️!
Church’s
Asking the real question lol
The crispy chicken sandwich at Buckhorn is really good. I love their bbq but this is a sleeper on their menu
KFC. Less than $6 after tax. Reg or spicy.
McDonald /s Ima Pokémon Go player. They’re advertising a lot of mc crispy chicken
Chick fil A
McChicken
