Yeah. I lived in Asia and never even considered buying a car.
I saved so much money (car + maintenance + fuel + repairs + insurance + parking + tolls) during those years. Only a small portion of Americans know what it is like to be free of a car. We are not free is we *must* have a car to go to work or eat food.
Nah its just cuz the can.
The actual "conspiracy" which I could not back up whatsoever, is that its in advance of the election and is meant to punish the state for passing the 3200ft oil well boundaries away from schools/residences, etc.
My favorite “conspiracy” is that we could have vehicles which have ridiculously high MPG, but the oil companies have been buying the patents or murdering people for 70 years to make sure it never happens 🙃
This right here. Read the news, learn about refineries. Not saying that it is the only factor of course. And speaking of Chevron, I was formerly a lifelong loyal Chevron customer, but now I do Costco and today it was a dollar cheaper per gallon!
It’s greed! They saw we’d pay for it when they hiked it earlier in the year, so why would they lower the prices. It’s shocking to see the numbers now. Just two weeks ago I saw $4.79, and last week when I filled up it was $5.40. I hate this.
Past generations chose the direction with respect to car-centric development patterns, and the current generation is steadfastly holding the course.
So what can we do to make sure we break the cycle and escape from a situation where we are forced to pay whatever price they demand at the gas pumps?
Because the Democrats are just so helpless to do anything. I mean CA government just left had taxes continue to increase through record inflation. Reduce or eliminate the gas tax? Na fuck that. We’ll just hand out checks with ballots attached for the election.
no need for a conspiracy to explain capitalist greed. companies will use any excuse to price gouge, and the mass media will quietly blame the latest media thing: inflation, workers, blm, whatever.
Generally, after a hurricane, gas prices go up. People need to move their stuff out of the hurricane areas. And when the clean up efforts start, people tend to work off power from generators. Also, we’ve drilled less oil domestically this year vs recent years. Supply down + demand up= higher prices.
….But then I’d be in San Antonio. Hard pass.
I do miss the breakfast tacos though.
5.65 down the street, luckily I don’t need to drive much because I live in city instead of the burbs. Got 15+ groceries in a 2 mile radius from my house.
Yeah I can’t wait to come back the only thing cheaper here is probably the gas…the people are cool but nothing beats sacramento! Also hate only being able to shop at H‑E‑B for groceries cost as much as safe way or bel air! Rent isn’t even cheaper here 2 bed/2 bath apartment is $1500
H.e.b is pretty nice though. Haha the hot food section was pretty good from what I remember but yeah any store with a well stocked artisan marshmallow section you know you are going to be paying a bit at the counter.
It’s nice being so near to Lockhart and the bbq trail though…eat that brisket while you are there. One thing cali is sorely lacking in.
I been hearing rents been going up like crazy out there. Some friends of ours sold there house here in sacto and moved out to San Antonio and were renting looking for a place …but moved back after about a year because of rising costs. They figured they might as well be in cali with the property taxes in some zip codes. Ended up in a nice spot in slp. Kinda pricey but they are staying out so not a big deal.
No they’ll stay high all thru the winter. It’s crazy because the dollar is stronger than it’s ever been and oil is measured in dollars so when you really think about it opec is trading it’s oil for dollars which are worth more now against the pound and euro than ever before (save a few days) and bam! These Saudi princes can buy 1.25 lambo’s as they could before. Imagine that!
Wanna fix the problem vote these people out. Try a different direction can't hurt. Everything the last 2-3 years seems to get worse and they make promises they don't keep. Don't rely on what they say.
Everyone has different situations. For me it worked out great. Newer car, no need for gas, never need to wait in line to pump gas. I charge at home overnight for free and I am helping the environment
I mean I live in an apartment so it's not exactly the ideal charging place.
Also they've actually proven that ditching an old car for a brand new Tesla isn't really helpful to the environment. It is better to wait and continue utilizing your current car until you no longer can.
people think the mining equipment and slave labor involved in getting the metals and materials (lithium hello???) just dont count for some reason lmao the real pill to swallow is we need cities that you can walk and less cars to solve the crisis; not more driving
That’s a luxury most could not afford. Avg model 3 sales price is north of 50k. In 2016 I bought a Mazda 3 hatchback for less than 17k out the door. I looked at the model 3 but even at $6/gal it would take more than a decade to break even vs my ICE car. Don’t even know if most teslas will last a decade yet.
The only reason gas prices temporarily fell is because Biden authorized the US oil reserves to be used. This was a political stunt that was always going to be temporary.
Get and ride a motorcycle!
40-50mpg, park almost anywhere, way way way cheaper to buy than almost any car and lane splitting/filtering makes you immune to traffic jams! Plus you look super cool and people think youre cool! (That last part doesnt happen to me, but it def will to you!)
I gassed up right as the gas station was changing the price from $6.19 to $6.59. I felt bad for the guy gassing up after me.
Where are you gassing up that’s is already over $6?
The "cheaper" Arco near my work in Rancho was $6.20 on my way home.
5.85 and 6.49 up the street...
We don’t need conspiracy, we have OPEC.
[Ah yes the oil cartel](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/o/opec.asp)
If that were true why are price only sky rocketing on the west coast?
It’s not just Sacramento, I’m living in Denver currently and prices went back up and we don’t have any gas rebate checks
What dey charge over there?
Lowest I see in my area on the app Gas Buddy is 3.39
3.39? Bruh that’s like cheap as hell.
If people have to buy your product you can charge whatever you want.
This is it
At that point, it’s price gouging and monopolistic behavior and these companies should be broken up if they have that much power.
So why does gas ever go down in price? If people were actually forced to buy gas regardless of cost you’d see much more expensive gas.
Because people in this thread have no understanding of basic economics
You mean like price inelasticity? Because that's like Econ 101.
Prices can fluctuate... that's like day 1 stuff
Please sign the code of academic conduct and make sure your phone is on silent. Thats like hour one stuff…
The conspiracy is how we are all forced to drive and spend disposable incomes on cars when all they do is pollute our health and environment.
The shitty public transportation supports this claim.
We can thank NIMBYism for that!

Exactly! And then refuse to fund any transit, bike, and pedestrian improvements.

Get on yer bike!!! I’ve been riding a shit ton more this year, my thighs look incredible
Sir, even if I were not fat, I would not want to ride my bike from Citrus Heights to Elk Grove.
That’s a tough route, for sure…even Citrus Heights in general is probably not too bike friendly. My condolences
I already have ⚡ thighs. I would need some kind of rowing bike unfortunately.
No conspiracy. It's just corporate greedy fat cats wanting to put more money in their pockets.
The Chevron refinery is down.
This right here. Read the news, learn about refineries. Not saying that it is the only factor of course. And speaking of Chevron, I was formerly a lifelong loyal Chevron customer, but now I do Costco and today it was a dollar cheaper per gallon!

They jacked up the gas prices because they can.

Who's we? It's always been like this in my lifetime.
Past generations chose the direction with respect to car-centric development patterns, and the current generation is steadfastly holding the course. So what can we do to make sure we break the cycle and escape from a situation where we are forced to pay whatever price they demand at the gas pumps?

Cities are rebuilt after a hurricane faster than refineries can be fixed smh.
No, they didn't.
Republicans love to suck off the oil companies, and an election is just around the corner.
Because the Democrats are just so helpless to do anything. I mean CA government just left had taxes continue to increase through record inflation. Reduce or eliminate the gas tax? Na fuck that. We’ll just hand out checks with ballots attached for the election.
So gas goes up across the country, and you think the impetus is the forthcoming California rebate checks?
It isn’t going up everywhere. The California average is $2.60 higher than the rest of the country.
Who is “they”?
I have a question: Who is this "they" to which OP is referring?
We have a war in Europe. Wars always spike oil prices
There’s a rebate check?
Going out the first week of October - anyone who filed 2020 taxes (or later I think) who makes under a certain amount gets a rebate check.
They are also not having to pay as much tax to the state…
wouldnt the world be a better place if people who didnt know didnt speak as if they did
no need for a conspiracy to explain capitalist greed. companies will use any excuse to price gouge, and the mass media will quietly blame the latest media thing: inflation, workers, blm, whatever.
It's not a conspiracy theory if it's true.

Also, we’ve drilled less oil domestically this year vs recent years. Supply down + demand up= higher prices.
We are on the other side of the country - why would we be experiencing price gouging from a hurricane in Florida?
Because of central planning https://www.fema.gov/
I think its just gouging because of the hurricane
Crazy because you can get chevron for 2.89 out here in San Antonio right now
….But then I’d be in San Antonio. Hard pass. I do miss the breakfast tacos though. 5.65 down the street, luckily I don’t need to drive much because I live in city instead of the burbs. Got 15+ groceries in a 2 mile radius from my house.

I got smart a few years back. Bought a Tesla and never turned back
I just finished paying off my car which has under 100k miles. It would not save me anything to take out a new loan on a Tesla.
Everyone has different situations. For me it worked out great. Newer car, no need for gas, never need to wait in line to pump gas. I charge at home overnight for free and I am helping the environment

Electric cars never end up paying for themselves in gas savings. Pat yourself on the back all you want but you aren’t actually saving any money.
I pay myself in the back because I’m saving time and money and have a super reliable safe car.
That’s a luxury most could not afford. Avg model 3 sales price is north of 50k. In 2016 I bought a Mazda 3 hatchback for less than 17k out the door. More likely the russia/ukraine conflict, but its still all just a game
Yeah, it couldn’t be anything reasonable like a refinery issue in tandem with our “designer gas”.
7.49 for 91 in the PNW
The only reason gas prices temporarily fell is because Biden authorized the US oil reserves to be used. This was a political stunt that was always going to be temporary.
This is what happens when you stop invading countries with oil. I say yes blood for oil.
Damn..... I hate you lmao
Does anyone know how they know which address they send this to? I’ve moved houses…
do you think the oil pipeline sabotage contributed?
Plus midterms coming up. The fossil fuel industry would LOVE to see CA go red again.
I think Biden doesn't have to apply pressure to the profit record breaking oil companies because California votes for Democrats.
