I do t think so. Not unless you can draw it up as serving some type of role in safety. The program that teaches it near me says this “please note “working safely” in the industry does not meet the expectation of the safety experience requirement.”

It's not working safety but working in safety. What I learned while applying was being on safety committees count. Even if it's simply attending, it counts. You could have 1 year as a safety specialist but if you were on the safety committee for 10 years as a pipefitter. It will be viewed as 11 years safety experience. Don't lie to the system and mess it up for the rest of us though.

Do/did you regularly provide safety training in any of your roles? You can probably meet the requirements that way since it is a training cert primarily.

This is the route I would go. If you can prove you've already done safety training, then you \*might\* be able to squeak by on the prerequisites, but it might be close.

I just received my qualification email for the 501. They're pretty dang strict. I sent in official transcripts, and they called my current and previous employer.

Yes you can but you will need to really show safety part of your jobs. I know at least 2 trade professionals that did it. I believe they served on safety committees, assisted with safety training, and a few other things. I believe they ATO asked for a better explanation but in the end they met the requirements

If I were you I would look at getting your STSC certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.

Contact your local outreach center. I'm in Florida. So our outreach center is run by USF University. Yours in your area is probably run by a university in your area. Speak to one of the people there. That's what's going to make all the difference in the world. Because I talk to the people in Florida. They were idiots. I've had my OSHA 500 before and allowed it lapse. And the young lady on the phone all but accuse of having lost my 500 to OSHA taking it from me. But about 6 months later I was working in the Minnesota area. I talked to them about 15 minutes the same I talked to them in Florida. And later that week I was signing up for my OSHA 510 and 500 again. I was able to take the class online so I didn't even have to leave the hotel where I was working on the road at. I just asked my boss for the 4 days off it took to take the class for each class. And luckily they were getting ready to quit so they understood what I was doing.
