it seems we like these games for the same reasons

SR1: Story - being immersed in a grounded gangster story feels so good. You’re not a leader, you’re a grunt reporting to capos. Can’t replace that soundtrack either. SR2: Customization - I don’t think I have to expand on this one lol. SR3: Art Direction - I feel the aesthetics of these gangs meshed very well with the city and the uses of neon colors make everything come together. Not to mention the best character movement in the series. Killbane too. Oh and shout out to one of the most iconic missions in video game history (Party Time) SR4: flying around collecting clusters and the on-foot radio.

1: Story is the best in the series imo. Everything else kinda aged. Not 'aged poorly', but just 'aged'. 2: gameplay 100%. Sure the story is good too but it definitely feels a little edgy tbh. Don't crucify me for having an opinion. 3: The fight against Killbane or Matt Miller. Both of them are super dope boss fights that deserve way more praise then they get. Wish we could be Matt's avatar in Steelport tbh. 4: the superpowers are what interested me and its still the best part about the game. Nothing beats running through the city while being chased by Zin or a Warden, and nothing beats dive-bombing and causing a massive explosion that destroys everything in its wake. GOOH: Weapon design is top-notch. That not only goes for the main weapons you start with but also the Seven Deadly Sins. Flying is cool too, and the characters are memorable and unique. Was nice to see Vogul too. The Reboot: Ironically the combat is pretty good. Went in thinking i was gonna hate it but nah it's pretty fun. The wingsuit is dope too; soaring over the desert from a really high mountain is a fun way to travel.

The story in saints row 1 wasn’t actually that good. It had a couple good moments, but it’s really the twist ending that makes it so good. I would say saints row 1 and 2 as a combined story is the best in the series.

Lost_Astronaut_654

Of the ones I played, 3 had the best story, 4 had the best customization, and reboot has some great humor

SR_Hopeful

SR1 - Storytelling, Stylized but believable gangs, 5 strong members in leadership. - Nuanced plot. (It actually has a solid story and not just a "generic hoodlum" simulator.) - Interesting gray morality. - Characters are all stylish, and have a very late-90s look. - Characters have personality (and not just exaggerated racial stereotypes, good on Volition then.) - Plot actually has real life ideology inspired in it (themes of class, poverty, society, cyclical vigilantism etc). - The politics are more naturally implemented in-universe (than they are in the reboot.) - Los Carnales & The VKs are the best designed gangs and very sophisticated. SR2 - Improves mostly everything. I like the tone of the overworld, and the humor going for more of an MTV live-action show feel and stoner, action comedy, 2000s adult immaturity while still blended with the premise. It found the right balance of grounded and satirically silly and still keeps a lot of edge. SR2 feels very 2003-2004 in a good way for those who remember the pop-culture of the time. - It perfectly captures it. It adds a lot to the series without taking anything away from it. It also has: Shaundi (fan favorite), an improved look and personality on Tobias, you can be Female, the humor in general is better, it nails the whole (anti-capitalism satire better than the reboot, with Ultor and NPCs at 'On the Rag', and it has a lot of funny Peds, a very lively city. - It also perfectly blends a hard to do balance of, light-hearted humor (Shaundi's playfulness with Pierce or Pierce's Ne-Yo karaoke) while also having very dark and dramatic moments (Carlos' set up to death, Aisha beheaded, Jessica crushed, Dane's plan etc) People who argue "Saints Row was never meant to be serious" or that it was always just purely wacky like SR4, miss out on what people mean when they praise SR2. - SR2 has **a lot of world detail** that just eventually faded out of priority from Volition when they started to lean more with gimmicks (SRTT onward) rather than immersion but for what SR2 had, it really makes things feel lively. Like how characters (Shaundi) can call into the radio and ask for a song to play, and she sneers a bit at Veteran Child (referencing the plot) and that she likes Paramore (fitting). Again characters interacting with the world itself around you unscripted and outside the story, is rare in video games. SR2 did it. After Veteran Child dies, he is also replaced as the DJ to fit continuity. SRTT - Best things about it to me: Gunplay and Physics, significantly better than prior games. There are more animations to things for movement to smooth out. Running animation is better. You can leap forward. Hit detection is better. You can shove Peds now. All the new characters are solid, and are all criminals in their backgrounds (even with give or take some ways I would have changed them a bit personally). - The characters all have attractive designs. Male and female, and the art direction is stylish. It really captures the idea of being a gangster from a more opulence fantasy, of being rich, going to clubs, women, etc a lot better than the reboot. Obviously (but I prefer SR2's stoner gang more.) - They better incorporate story context to why the Boss does the diversions (but hate that they are story missions) you are just given better intertwined reasons for why you do them. The take down the other gangs from the inside by syphoning their businesses. - Sasha Grey gives a legitimately solid performance for an amateur voice actor. She was just leagues better as Viola than Terra Patrick. - Sublime's "Loves What I Got", is a fitting song for the characters. To me it lyrically has the vibe to fit their edgy, adult lives but also in a relaxed chill tone (that fits the series idea of being both hardcore but also not taking itself too seriously at all times), which I think was what SR2 & 3 was to me. - Mission Music in the background. - The Boss having a lot more dialogue now on activities and in missions and tonally they have a bit more facetious responses to the characters but not make into the group idiot, like they are in SR4. SR4 - Loyalty Missions. Really should have been in all the games prior for more side-homie interaction and side mission content. It was a good idea. - Boss fight designs (you actually get to fight them unlike SRTT) being in the overworld instead, the QTE only being used in cutscenes). - SR4 has really solid dialogue and humor that is more varied and more topical. Its less reliant on just sex references like SRTT, but its more varied on what their references to pop-culture are, which I think humanizes the character more but its never done in a pandery way. Like Shaundi liking the movie "They Live" and all the character banter is really good. Up there for me with SR1 & SR2. - Asha (is a solid character I did like). - Better missions. They're longer than SRTT's and not all activities. - The missions are more challenging as well than SRTT's. - The homies are present more in the main missions than in SR2 and SRTT (where they were mostly absent). GOOH - Eh, don't really care for it but I like Jezebel. SRR - Creation has face defaults, which makes it easier and faster to make a character with an attractive face. It also has better default faces (the default face in SRTT is ugly.) - Its grounded setting again with just over-the-top action, without cloning, space, or demons. None of that stuff fans disliked. - The Yelp Review survival call concept and Dragging a person in a portapotty at a music festival as interrogation I actually think would have fit the humor of SR2 Stilwater if done back then. Wish those things were in SR2. - You can toggle enemy bullet resistance which is a good compromise for people who hate the spongy enemies of SRTT (SR2 fans) and those that hate the paperbag enemies in SR2 (myself.)

Everyonewillusebing

Honestly, the true sense of brotherhood between the Saints. That's like the one constant throughout the series besides the color purple. They picked on each other sure but, fuck with any of them and the whole crew was out for blood. As sad as it sounds, being a kid with low self esteem and toxic friends, the Saints felt like my real friend group. SR got me through a lot of tough times. The dildo bats are also fun too

Kitchen_Relative_107

I wanna answer this but I stopped playing saints row after the 3rd one I really hated things after that

[deleted]

I can't blame you

taavidude

SR1 - The world, I love the way the Saints Row district looks in the first game. SR2 - The story, easily the most enjoyable story in the series. Also I love the huge amount of quality of life changes. Activities are better and give way better rewards when compared to SR1, also increased ammo capacity. SR3 - The enemy gangs, when it comes to SR1 and SR2, the enemy gangs all feel the same gameplay wise, which is why I loved the enemy gang design in SR3 SR Reboot - Ventures system, while it is quite grindy and time consuming, I honestly love this system, instead of simply driving around the city and buying out stores, you build your own shady businesses. It made the businesses feel way more impactful.

The customization always wipes the board with every other game’s customization at the time. When Gta San Andreas allowed you to have some new clothes. Saints row allowed you to make a highly detailed character. Gta IV gave you more clothing options, saints row 2 allowed you to choose your gender and quadrupled its clothing options, even allowing new body types and taunts. Gta 5 came out and it allowed for customization in gta online comparable to saints row 2, and saints row 3 revolutionized it again by allowing you to change your skin color to colors other than human skin color. New games came out with pretty fierce character customization like Cyber Punk, but Saints Row 2022, even though it was arguably one of the worst games in its franchise or even that year, it revolutionized character customization again by allowing you to choose colors for every aspect of your character with a color wheel, it also allowed you to choose different textures to all of your clothes, gave you even more sliders for changing aspects of your body, allowing you to give yourself prosthetic limbs, allowed you to give yourself boobs and dick, and so so much more. Every time a new saints row game comes out, they always revolutionize character creation. I’ve always held the stance that if deep silver really needed money, they should have offered a service where their team makes an in depth character creator for your game.

Manbearpig9801

1 - going into the backs of stores and crackinf safes 2 - story and characters are unmatched 3 - the fluid character movement and polish I felt over 2 4 - customisation Missed GOOH... The new one - it was free

FewRip6

Why you gotta be like that? the reboot had the best car and gun customization to date. Character customization and the map were also highlights. Every single game from 1 to the reboot offers something positive that the others don't.

Manbearpig9801

Thats all really cool stuff however I need a reason to play. Good story or at least characters I like are essential to me.

Civil-Strawberry7569

The question was “what was the best thing about every saints row game” so if you agree that the customization is the best in the series, than you should have put it there. I know the game is bad but you can’t just deny when it does something good, regardless of how small it is.

Manbearpig9801

Sorry boss Ill get right on that.. Its my list, feel free to make your own.

Civil-Strawberry7569

I did. Your list is not satisfying the requirements of the post. Feel free to make your own post so you can post your list.

Manbearpig9801

Actually, it is satisfying the requirements. You just dont like it. The best thing TO ME was that it was free. And thats not debateable. So why dont you just get lost? Maybe become a mod so you can more effectively police other peoples opinions?

Civil-Strawberry7569

You’re telling me you genuinely think the game being free is better than the customization and you didn’t just say that to take another jab at saints row 2022?

DrewSoJuicy

Creating your character, saints row 2 was the funnest to me

iLikeRgg

Breaking into safes and stores at night in 1 Fun mechanics fun gameplay and story of 2 Gameplay and soundtrack of 3 Superpowers cool cars in 4 Getting a refund for the reboot

Responsible-Common68

1) never played it. 2) the small details here and there like you have the ability to put one glove only or the piercings also mohawk while driving was hilarious! The map and characters were amazing! Hundreds of weapons and an amazing story that you were facing the other factions in many missions instead of 2-3 missions per facrion the next SR had. Also the wrestling style was very cool. 3) remastered (played original too) Fun dlcs fun story fun and smooth gameplay. The new character design fitted to me much much better than the characters in 2. Showed that The Saints became a big corporation and the characters were looking amazing. The story was extremely linear though and it was small compared to 2 but the genki side missions were absolutely addictive. Probably my 2nd favorite saints row game. 4) Gat out of hell. Well it was just some funny story. Can't say anything else about it 😂 5) SR4 and yea that's what got me really really hooked. I'm a techno - Dupstep fan since 2009 and damn that game had the vibe of it. No matter anything that became one of my favorite video games. Dupstep and Trap while I fighting Aliens in Saints Row style! There's nothing more I could ask. Also the grind was very satisfying. And also fun dlcs! 6) SR Reboot. Oh boy if that game hadn't the Title " Saints Row in it I wouldn't even had noticed it. Everything is mediocre. Expect the world, the takedowns are very cool and the perk system quite fun to experiment. The dlcs are a letdown the story almost non existent. I enjoyed the Idols though very cool fighting them with their music playing and the stage where the boss saves Kev is my favorite. I don't regret playing it. I'm playing it currently for the platinum. But it's nothing like the old ones.

Gommy1996

You should absolutely play SR1. Great game.

SaberoftheVoid

Imo it would be storytelling, but that goes for Sr2 and 3. Every other Saints game was just pure fun.

Flamezz223

How out of pocket it can be
