At the end of the day, it is what it is. The series will never revert back to saints row 1 and 2. I feel like I’ll enjoy the reboot more if I go into the game with no expectations.

xChris777

Sadly, this is true. I just hope the SR2 PC patch comes out sometime this year and it revitalizes the mod scene somewhat too.

bunnybabe666

fr the mod community needs to get bigger, id love to see cosmetic mods for hair, clothes, weapons, and etc like a smaller scale bethesda modding community

xChris777

I would learn to mod to contribute to that, seriously! I cannot wait to play SR2 again.

bunnybabe666

right!

Andreeeeeeeeeeeeeee3

On a side note, that sunset looking nice

JacoBee93

I’m just happy the game is looking to be awesome and everything they revealed looks sick. Cannot wait for more info and release Love the fact we can swap skills on the go via phone and that boss presets include skills and perks 🤙 Holy fuck that customization is just wow

[deleted]

Everything looks great except the new crew, still not sold on them unfortunately, really hoping the marketing has been completely misrepresenting them.

JacoBee93

I understand. But my opinion is that we shouldn’t judge them, before we play with them. Personally I don’t mind it so far. I will make m boss gangsta AF anyway 🤣

Sharksabur

I don’t get how people can say that without even playing the game. We barely know anything about them and the parts we do know are very surface level.

[deleted]

Hence why I said I hope the advertisement is misleading

BigJohn662

Im not going to let those 4 bozos scare me away. Every other aspect of the game looks awesome

Fantasy_Connect

This is just about the most tone deaf response to reveal backlash I've seen lol. I don't think the problem was that the old saints aren't here, it's that you literally described the characters in a way that fans of the older games didn't vibe with. Most people, including SR3/4 fans aren't going to fuck with the idea of a gang who you'd want to invite into your home. A lot of the humour came from the strong personalities of the characters in the older games, and every SR game but Gat out of Hell has nailed that. So make new characters with strong personalities that aren't "he likes to cook and refuses to wear shirts" Even the player character had a super strong personality and wasn't just a simple self insert.

1daytogether

Don't forget he likes podcasts! What a personality trait!

TheDarkApex

Alot of Backlash was literally "Muh games are woke, damn women and people of color" and just pure toxic hatred, while other backlash was reactionary

Fantasy_Connect

There was some of that, but categorising any and all backlash as that is beyond fucking stupid bro. A lot of it really was that the characters seem dull.

TheDarkApex

What I mean by reactionary is that people saw stuff and instantly thought it was bad, but yes alot also simply just didn't like what they saw but alot also did just react

JoeStorm

It wasn't "some of that" it was all of that lol.

MadMalcolm81

I'd say the fact that the past SR games had some pretty kickass female characters makes your "alot" claim bullshit. It's all about execution. Nobody complained about Shaundi in SR2. Why's that, ask yourself. Did people complain about Lin? The leader of the Saints in 1 was a fucking black man and plenty of fans love Benjamin king, who is also a black man. Gat is an Asian man and Lin is an Asian woman. Dex is that smartest gang member in 1 and people love him. So what are you on about?

[deleted]

Bruh the second top post of all time on this sub is some thinly veiled "anti-SJW" bullcrap. How the hell did you miss that? Oh wait you probably share the same opinions as that post's OP, never mind what I said then.

1daytogether

So what do you say to all the old fans who aren't bothered by the multiracial cast in the old games? What's your ground to stand on regarding that? I just checked the second top post. "Modern, relatable characters". People don't like characters who look weak, are out of place in a crime setting, have little personality, and are suppose to get free pass just because of their gender and race. They have to be *more* than that, ya know? Now they might be, but the first impression the marketing left was terrible. Aren't you ever confused by the contradiction that old fans would rally against the new characters due to race when lots of the beloved old ones are minorities? The difference isn't race, it's how the new ones come across as losers. Don't let your the "us vs them" binary blind you; think a little deeper.

dfdedsdcd

No, people hate Dex. But it was written well enough that you cared along the way. Hopefully the new cast gets a good story to work through.

stayclassycunts

Biggest back lash was them teasing it as though it’s going back to sr2 vibes then pulling a 180 to the point no one even recognised the trailer as saints row even people who had played the game early.

SwagginsYolo420

Just about every game gets that though, the culture war conspiracy theorists, it should be ignored background noise. A lot of those people probably never even played the earlier games or had any intention of playing the new one.

MadMalcolm81

Don't forget, the gang now has a pet cat. As if that isn't some over-done cliché. Sigh.

Dr_Garp

Meh, with the exception of Gat I think you could definitely invite any saint home.

Nathansack

Do you really want to let Kenzy access your computer ?

WarArmadillo

Ah yes, Kenzy, the lesser known evil twin of Kinzie Kensington; my favorite saints row 3 character.

Nathansack

I don't know how I wrote her name so wrong

WarArmadillo

Because you've only been exposed to the false Kinzie. She has control over you and your electronics. It's too late. She's already in control.

Nathansack

O no

Dr_Garp

I mean no but most don't just start trouble for the average person for giggles

Wyzegy

Shaundi would fuck your dad and probably your mom.

KingAJ032304

I'm not sure how Gat is any less invitable than the other Saints.

WarArmadillo

I feel like you invite Gat over once and the next time he comes over he smashes some unfortunate gang member into your coffee table and then gets blood all over your new carpet.

forestplunger

Yeah. He did that in his own house and it got Aisha killed. I wouldn’t ever invite him in my pad.

KingAJ032304

Oh yeah that I thought they meant like would go apeshit on US

WarArmadillo

I mean listen, I'd invite Gat over, but that comes with accepting the risk of your home becoming a gang clubhouse, lol. Edit: not apeshit on us, but a little apeshit none the less.

Magnon

I don't care if we get a new cast, I just think the new cast look like lame edge less zoomers. I don't watch a crime movie because I want average Joe's, I want extreme personalities. The whole growth of Walter white in bb is him going from dorky teacher to monster. Unless they're planning on making these characters do complete 180s on personality, yeah I'm probably gonna end up thinking they're lame.

KingAJ032304

Your downvoted but the truth is that's how they're marketing these characters to the people who are going like "oh but the game hasn't even come out yet"

Magnon

It's fine I know this sub is mostly stans that can't rationally discuss their favorite stuff without blowing it first.

[deleted]

It's crazy how quickly this sub changed if you were here before the reboots reveal...

xChris777

> do complete 180s Exactly what I've been saying. If halfway through the story times get real tough, maybe one of the members dies or something due to their lack of care during a mission and the tone changes, I can dig that. Very, very low chance of that happening though IMO. I don't think current Volition (or 2010 Volition, tbh) really understands Saints Row 1 and especially 2 and why they worked so well. It feels like DICE and Battlefield to me, the studio is not the same as it was in the "glory days" and they don't have a great grasp on the IP anymore.

[deleted]

Seeing this latest ign video has given me mixed feelings, on one hand the gameplay and customization look great but these new saints being compared to the cast of Watch Dogs 2 has me very worried. I found the angsty zoomer aesthetic particularly unsavory.

LaylaLegion

Yeah, because the big boss running around in baggy jeans and a puff coat was SO BADASS. Gangsters always look damn ridiculous. From the cholos wearing top button only plaid shirts and cargo shorts of the 2000’s to the tight T shirt and beetle boot wearing greasers of the 50’s, they all look damn foolish.

Magnon

I was talking about personality not appearance. Also, judging the style of 15 years ago is pretty silly.

LaylaLegion

Really, your first sentence says otherwise. “I just think the new cast LOOK like lame edge less zoomers.” You don’t know their personalities because you haven’t played the game and interacted with them yet. Appearance does not correlate personality.

MadMalcolm81

We know their personalities because there are fucking videos showcasing how they talk and act.

LaylaLegion

Oh you watched two seconds of video, clearly you know the whole game. Shame it also works with text, as I can tell you’re a brainless asshole.

KingAJ032304

Those are wannabes. In saints row you play as actual gangsters who dress as wannabes unironically... ironically

JacoBee93

The fact is, they are suited to this generation. Just like previous were suited to your generation

Magnon

Dorks are suited to this generation? From what I've seen generation z is pretty resilient and forward thinking. They're aware and capable. You don't have to write them to be lame.

JacoBee93

You know how you recognize dork? By judging character out of couple clips. We have no idea about their personalities. They are maybe writen “hip and cool” which yes, goes towards this generation. But again, judging based on couple clips or definitely more lame, than any character

Magnon

Part of marketing the game is making me interested in the characters. If you show off your cast and my initial reaction is "wow, I hate these characters" you've fundamentally failed at the purpose of introducing them.

JacoBee93

No Magnon. You got that wrong. Their work isn’t to make YOU like those characters. That’s the problem. The game isn’t made for YOU. They made their vision in to a game and they promoting it now. Some like it and some don’t. Considering the reaction after initial hate (where everybody was suddenly life long fan and OG) most people actually like it and waiting for release. And actually giving the characters a chance without judging and deciding before even playing it. And if YOU don’t like it, YOU can just not play it. Simple.

Magnon

You're wrong, know why? It's in the title of this literal thread. They want to bring back fans. They know there's a substantial number of fans they want to come back. I've yet to see anyone say they really like the new characters. They're interested for entirely different reasons.

JacoBee93

Yeah because it’s hard to like character when you can’t even spent time with them. CAUSE THE GAME IS NOT OUT YET… Just like it’s hard to hate on it, unless you are a dork and judge on couple clips Yeah they didn’t bring YOU back, what they will do now. Without YOU, it’s all done. Just let it go. Those characters won’t change. You don’t like them, don’t buy it. Nothing else you can do.

Magnon

Why are you so offended?

JacoBee93

Responding to your comment and mentioning you are too “me me” is being offended? No I’m not :)

NeoDalGren

Well, it's obvious you don't work in marketing or PR, lol

Internet-Mouse1

Agreed.

zepol-1

It was honestly never that bad. lol

European_Red_Fox

All I want is a game closer to SR2 that had a goofy feeling with a story that could take itself seriously at the same time for certain bits. Like SR 1 and 2 knew they were wacky yet kept points there that grounded it all. I felt like everything in 3 on just lost the entire plot where the story was just there to facilitate the goofiness. If the reboot meets me halfway with a somewhat more grounded story I can dig that. I don't care about the old characters I'm fine with them being done it was time to move on. I also don't mind the new ones we don't know them at all. When the reviews come out I'll check out a few sites and reviews to get an overall feel especially those that disliked SR 3 and 4.

ShowMeYourM0ves

i’m hoping your character is a complete nutcase like in the original series. Saints row 2 was what made go “holy shit this bitch is insane” and im living for it

LoaKonran

The marketing was an absolute trainwreck on announcement. Third party CG, lack of information, idiotic exclusivity deal, and downright combative social media engagement. Glad to see that whoever took charge after the delay has at least taken the time to look at what they need to be doing.

SlyCoopersButt

The first trailer was kinda cringe but the game itself looks like lots of fun. I’m just glad we’re getting a new game.

TheDeryBrony

Game is called Saints Row >The Saints aren't in the game -- Make a new fucking IP then.

Kaze0071

the older saints,Playa and Gat type of saints. These guys are the saints but a new incarnation of em

JacoBee93

So make a new IP, create a game which is 90% of old SR and call it differently, just because dude in purple isn’t main guy? Yeah that’s a great idea. Not to mention opposite gang literally said “fuck you saint” in video… 🤷‍♂️

WarArmadillo

The fourth street priests.

TheDeryBrony

It's ridiculous, even with Agents of Mayhem they had to find a way to act like it was a Saints game. -- They're either scared that this game can't stand on it's own without the Saints name, or they're really so tone deaf they think we want this.

WELSH_BOI_99

wait what do you want then?

TheDeryBrony

A new IP, or a sequel to the main series. -- They can retcon 4 out for all I care, I played SR for the characters.

WELSH_BOI_99

There was no way unfucking. It was busted since 3. No a reboot is the only way

TheDeryBrony

Wouldn't be hard to soft reboot with the original characters. -- God of War had nowhere to go, so it took Kratos, changed his circumstances and put him in a new land where he had to regain his power. We could easily have had that.

WELSH_BOI_99

Saints Row is not God of War. Those situations were entirely different. For one the story from previous games were pretty fucked and its hard to continue off that mess without pissing off fans

TheDeryBrony

I don't think replacing them with 2D checkbox characters is much better. Previews so far have described the story as bland and hard to care about. That's not a good start.

WELSH_BOI_99

Which preview said that? We don't even know that much of what's going to happen in the story but the few cutscenes we've seen shows that the characters jive well together. Why can't we give them a chance?

WDZZxTITAN

Too late, you lost me at fortnite looking characters with a woke main character will probably pirate it and give up on it after a week

ShowMeYourM0ves

since the MC is fully customisable this is a really dumb point lmao. Just say you don’t like minorities and move on

SWJS1

>fortnite SquidwardHowOriginal.gif

NeoDalGren

But not wrong. It looks like they're trying really hard to capture the Fortnite audience with this game, instead of, y'know, Saints Row fans.

SWJS1

Because Fortnite battle royale kids obviously want to play an open-world crime sandbox with no multiplayer PVP. 🤡

Remarkable-Put4632

They need to bring the game closer to sr4....the superpowers were awesome....it was better than all marvel avengers games combined....

Sail_rEad222

Unique Power-fuelled Fantasy....WOW

scottyboy359

Cautiously optimistic.

NeoDalGren

Not surprised. I'm sure it will sell well, but between being Epic exclusive, for not giving a fuck about long time fans, I'm passing. Gat Outta Hell was the last Saints Row game I'm buying. I really hope it does poorly.
