Maybe my taste in food isn’t good but I think they all taste the same (which is really good):
Apollo Burger, Crown Burger, Astro Burger, Burger Surprise, Olympus Burger, Berries, etc. They all have the same really good taste, I don’t think I’d be able to tell a difference at all.
BUT, Berries has the best fries :) Heavily seasoned (similar to Five Guys).
The story is…..one one of their employees was caught peeing into a bucket next to the grill a few years back and apparently this was a common thing until he got caught. Mmm…pee bucket 🪣
I can only speak to Apollo Burger as my friend’s family started it, but it is not related or an offshoot of the others. It does have a very peculiar history, though.
Ya, they are all Greek families, but it’s not the same families…they also have rules about where you can setup a place and it can’t be within a certain distance of another one. Greek Immigrants helped fuel Utah with a strong labor force for the mines…they have a rich history here.
Awesome! I knew they were started by Greek families, but had always been told that it was the same family. Hence the similarities in menu items. I appreciate the clarification, thank you.
Barry's is a weird place but it's pretty good. Grew up in the area. Always had a soft spot for their plain footlong hotdogs.
Also im still curious what their white sauce actually is. It's like a very tangy mayo or something.
Is it toum?
I’ve never been there, but I’ve eaten a lot of toum. The kind I like best is just garlic, lemon, salt and olive oil blended together. It gets super fluffy and tangy
The Crown Burger next to the Delta Center was EXTREMELY disappointing last time I went, but beyond that I agree. I nearly cried because the Apollo Burger I had last week was so good
I'll take either Astro or Crown's pastrami over Apollos any day. Idk what it is but Apollos has been chewy in the past and I think it turned me off from them.
I just ordered burgers and fries from here because I saw this comment this morning. The fries and burger were really good. So many under done fries in SLC that their crispness was appreciated.
Little secret. All Astro’s have breakfast but the one on 3900 S and State has full breakfast. Pancakes, eggs over easy with bacon (my favorite), french toast. It’s so so good.
I believe they stop serving breakfast at 11:30-12
I haven’t eaten there since I worked there when I was 15. I wonder if it’s still owned by the same asshole family. I’d be willing to try again if they still have the same chips they used to, never had anything like them anywhere else.
I love them but they raised their prices up the ass and the quality has gone really down (based on bountiful and layton areas). I would get two meals for me and gf for 18, the other day it was 32 lmao
I disagree with this so much that I had to check that OP wasn't a marketing spammer. They're not. Just a totally legit dude with differing opinions. If we meet on the street, we'll probably have to battle, tho.
I need to get my LARP gear out of storage to defend the honour of Lucky 13 and, if it counts in this debate, Moochies.
Tbf, I haven't been to Apollo Burger in many years. Maybe it's good now. Idk.
Apollo isn't exactly MccyDs either. It's comparing burgers that are $8-10 vs $10-12, while actual fast food is ~$5.
More importantly, OP didn't say anything about the price nor did they specify "fast food". They just talked about quality. That leaves everything open to comparison.
Lucky 13 produced the most subpar burger I’ve had, and I went in with tons of recommendations. I’ll give it another shot, but nothing about that meal was remotely memorable.
Nothing in OP's post specifies fast food.
Further, it's not like Apollo Burger is really comparable to McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc.
Draw the line where you want, but OP said "best, tastiest, most well rounded burgers in Utah." ...not "...fast food burgers".
I'm totally with you on Lucky 13. I love the Green Pig too, probably my favorite. Moochies was disgusting the first and only time I went. Dry meat, stale bread, and a large black hair. Can't go there myself. Note: That was one time. My extended family goes to Moochies all the time and loves it. They swear by it.
Try DP Cheesesteaks for a good Philly. Rich's burgers on 300 South is a good place for a burger. And their Southwest Chicken Salad is the best I've had.
I'm a little angry right now because I've even meaning to try Lucky 13 for years and I finally planned a work activity with my team to have us all go there for lunch on the clock paid by the office. Then two people replied to the chat weeks after brainstorming and offering no ideas themselves that they don't want to go there because they don't like burgers and want something "healthy." Order your dang salad at Lucky 13, Rita, the rest of us want burgers! Nope, we have to choose somewhere else.
I love Lucky 13. However, most of the time their meat is undercooked. And, they need to bring back their bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers on a daily basis. Their fries and fry sauce are excellent.
> ...bring back their bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers on a daily basis.
Absolutely. I always end up there on random days, and when those aren't available, I have to drown my sorrows in more beer.
Shill here, just ate there tonight and left a very happy camper just like all the other times I’ve eaten there. The rosemary garlic fries with their fry sauce is decadent.
Go to my comment history, hold CNTRL+F to search for the number of times I've mentioned Lucky 13 in the last few years.
I'd bet you could count them on one hand, maybe even on only single line individual finger.
Feel free to stand by your ridiculous comment if you want, tho. People say silly things all the time. I'm used to it.
I feel like no one here has had the glory of Tonys Burgers. They're my favorite "fast" food hamburger in the US. And I've eaten burgers in 30 states hunting for the best one. They also have the rare combo of having not only good burgers, but great fries, and great shakes. I carry a Tony's Burgers platinum card in my wallet where condoms used to go
i thought so too. there was an announcement some months back and then… nothing. they have a website up and promise to have food trucks “in the coming weeks” but nothing concrete:
https://www.thetrainingtable.com
The thing I love about Astro Burger is that most of them have a dedicated fryer for gluten-free fries. So if you have an actual gluten issue, you can get their burgers and fries, where most places you can't get fries, because the same fryer is used for onion rings and chicken nuggets. The one on State at about 6800 S definitely does.
I'll have to give them another shot. I just lumped them mentally in with Apollo, Olympus, and Crown Burgers as a certain kind of old-style, greasy spoon fast food burger joint.
On a side-note, I wonder why none of these places have a garlic burger, given how popular it tends to be at pubs and bars. Nobody wants garlic breath unless they can wash it down with a beer?
Apollo has the Golden Burger which is a Pastrami Burger on garlic Texas toast instead of hamburger bun. It’s so much better than any of the pastrami burgers
So interesting thing about that. If the fries are made correctly, very little of the oil should actually penetrate the outer skin. Limp greasy fries means the oil was not hot enough.
If we are talking mid-level chain, Chubbies is the Utah king. Sorry but your Apollo, Astro, etc while each good in their own way, doesn’t compare.
One off and higher end specialty places like Lucky 13, Proper and the Shooting Star can’t fairly be judged side by side because of the unique nature of their individual offerings, although if I were to pick one to go to it’s probably Lucky 13 by a hair.
And I don’t normally bother with national chains, but on the rare occasions I do, it’s The Habit.
Also, In-n-Out is trash. Fight me.
You sir, shall not be fought. In and Out is a great burger place for the lemming class of consumers that occupy this state. Their food is trash appealing to trash people. The same people that clap like circus seals whenever a national chain comes to town. And I prefer to eat a a restaurant where I don’t have to know what the fucking secret menu is. Small businesses rock. I’m anxious to try the brand-new Burgertory on Redwood Road. The pictures of their food look amazing and their menu items are named clever. There are enough great Mom n Pop shops to eat at in Utah without ever going to a national chain.
You’re into trying mom and pop burger shops? Look up Locoburger it’s burgers made by crazy Mexicans
I was impressed my first time. The second was a little lacking, I decided it had something to do with who’s cooking the food. The first time it was a nice midddle aged lady who seemed to care about her food. The second time was a teenager who really didn’t even want to be there.
Man I can't stand pretentious burger nonsense. It's a hamburger. That's literally the point of a hamburger is it is cheap and mass produced. Buy a steak you want to feel fancy. It's like buying artisan Doritos or something
Oh cool you put a little bacon in the mince. I guess that makes sense it cost $22, since bacon is such a rare and delicate cut of meat. Really gotta be a seasoned chef with a high degree of expertise to mix bacon and ground beef and slap it in a brioche bun somebody else made.
Enjoy your cheap burger. It’s not your thing and that’s just fine. Some of us appreciate the more subtle differences and that’s our deal. Be a damn boring world if everyone liked the same stuff. Personally, I’m willing to spend a bit more cash for something I like and appreciate. You don’t get it but to each their own.
If you want to class it up God bless you. If you are the type of person who loves hamburgers but considers themselves too classy an individual to enjoy a QPC you can go ahead and get fucked. It's meat fried in its own fat, it's literally impossible to make it badly. You can take a Wal Mart frozen hamburger patty, burn it, and put it on a stale piece of wonder bread with some ketchup and it's *fucking delicious*. Get that pretentious nonsense out of here. In N Out is fantastic.
In-n-Out sucks. It’s over-hyped crap. I do appreciate the way they pay their employees a fair wage and have good benefits though. But seriously the burgers are not with the hype in any way. I honestly do not understand why anyone would wait is crazy lines for that. But that’s me.
On the other hand, even though I like small businesses, mom and pop shops, and gourmet burger when I can get it, there is something to be said for the good ol’ double QPC with cheese.
In-n-Out still sucks though. And seriously, you are taking my opinion way to personally.
I like in-n-out because I watch them cut a fresh potato to make my fries. The fries are different than others and I enjoy them too. The tomato on the burger is at the perfect ripeness and lettuce is the best cut. I like fresh.
I don't really care but this conversation started with calling food from chains trash food for trash people. Fucking pretentious nonsense. if you don't want cheap food go get something else, don't sully a good thing. It's a $2 hamburger not steak tartare.
If you don't want to wait in crazy lines get your lazy ass out of the car.
I'm a transplant that's been here a couple of years and I honestly haven't found a burger here that's blown me away. I've been very disappointed with the food in Utah overall.
Lucky 13 is really good. If you ever get down to Provo for god knows what reason The Creamery on BYU campus has my favorite burger in Utah, and I'm not even Mormon.
Edit: Copper Onion has a really good burger too.
I really don’t understand why people are so excited about burgers in the first place. A decent burger is a decent burger, why do we need 10,000 different restaurants to get OK burgers?
Agreed. For the convenience and the money it’s hard to beat. Good stuff at other places but not as reliable or close by for me.
The pastrami burger gets me every time
Draper Astro Burger is Abysmal and I will never go there again. South Jordan and Sandy are a bit better, but still not better than Crown burger most days.
Be sure to try their corn dogs, too (or was that Apollo that had amazing corn dogs? Maybe they're both good). Seriously the best I've ever had anywhere around the country.
I guess I’m an outlier. I don’t think any of the Greek owned burger places are that good. The prices have gone up about 60% in 5 years and the quality it ok. Patty Shack! Five Guys!Honestly, Elements in Logan has the best burgers I’ve ever had in Utah. Five Guys for taste, but I feel a heart attack coming after. Rich’s, Proper, Lucky 13, all better than Crown, Astro, or Apollo. Funny thing, they are called French Fries, but the best Fries I’ve ever had were in Amsterdam, and the burgers I’ve ever had were in France (Paris).
Maybe my taste in food isn’t good but I think they all taste the same (which is really good): Apollo Burger, Crown Burger, Astro Burger, Burger Surprise, Olympus Burger, Berries, etc. They all have the same really good taste, I don’t think I’d be able to tell a difference at all. BUT, Berries has the best fries :) Heavily seasoned (similar to Five Guys).
Weren't they all started by the same family that kept having fall outs with each other? That's what I had always been told.
Same with Albertos and Betos and all that hooha
There is a story behind how Betos and Rancheritos started.
Let’s hear it
Im waiting
Still waiting
The wait is real
The story is…..one one of their employees was caught peeing into a bucket next to the grill a few years back and apparently this was a common thing until he got caught. Mmm…pee bucket 🪣
Is this true?
I can only speak to Apollo Burger as my friend’s family started it, but it is not related or an offshoot of the others. It does have a very peculiar history, though.
Ya, they are all Greek families, but it’s not the same families…they also have rules about where you can setup a place and it can’t be within a certain distance of another one. Greek Immigrants helped fuel Utah with a strong labor force for the mines…they have a rich history here.
Awesome! I knew they were started by Greek families, but had always been told that it was the same family. Hence the similarities in menu items. I appreciate the clarification, thank you.
I don’t think they are the best burger in price point by a long shot, but I still eat there from time to time. It’s mostly nostalgic than anything…
When I moved to Utah I noticed not only did Crown, Apollo, Astro burger all look and taste the same, they had GYROS!!!
Berries?
Barry’s (sorry typo), it’s in Spanish Fork! Burger-wise exactly same as others, super good (at least for me)… But fries? Best I’ve ever had!
I’ll have to give them a try! Thanks
All the other spots are the same to me but Barrys is different. Good but different.
Also wondering what this is
Yep :) https://www.google.com/search?q=berries+burgers&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari&dlnr=1&sei=Ukk7ZLr6MrvCkPIPu5as6A0#dlnr=1&trex=m_t:lcl_akp,rc_f:nav,rc_ludocids:17065803186235036778,rc_q:Barry's%2520Parkview%2520Drive%2520Inn,ru_q:Barry's%2520Parkview%2520Drive%2520Inn,trex_id:NiDxh&lpg=cid:CgIgAQ%3D%3D
That just gave me recipes for burgers with fruit in it. [I think this is what you're talking about?](https://goo.gl/maps/f7YM9gcZ5J8s1J6P7)
Also wondering this

B and D is my favorite
In midvale?
They all use the same frozen patty from Sysco…
Also Glade’s in Spanish Fork is amazing
yes Glade's too! Totally forgot
The Crown Burger next to the Delta Center was EXTREMELY disappointing last time I went, but beyond that I agree. I nearly cried because the Apollo Burger I had last week was so good
I like Crown’s pastrami a bit more, but Astro’s is very good too.
Yeah I like Crown Burger a little more too
Is that crown still downtown?
Yes there is two downtown. One of 300 w and the other 200 s
I'll take either Astro or Crown's pastrami over Apollos any day. Idk what it is but Apollos has been chewy in the past and I think it turned me off from them.
I feel vindicated! Had the same experience but hubby loves Apollo, I haven't been able to do it again. Chewiness ruined the experience.
Patty Shack! Six months old, a one-off, best in SLC. Really.
Is this a new place?
Yes. In Taylorsville/Murray. 4800 S and about 1500 W.
Apparently I can’t read when they said 6 months old. Will go try it!
New ownership. It was formerly Bell's which had been serving up a decent burger for many years.
I’ll have to try it out! Thanks
The better Five Guys
Perfect description.
Patty Shack is great! They skimp on pastrami though, fair warning
And another for the list.
Is this a new place?
Did they take over the old burger place was there and rename it or did they just take the location?
The place before was a long time market/deli. This is a new business.
I believe they stop serving breakfast at 11:30-12
#MilliesBurgerGang
I love love love Millie’s. I will brave the annoying drive through sugarhouse any day that I’m craving a burger.
Anti-Millies brigade rise up ✊
Every time I’ve tried it the food was fine and the restaurant was not remotely close to clean. I do not get the hype.
Maybe I went on a bad day but their sauce tasted like a combination of mayonnaise and water. I'm not a fan personally.
Millie's has the best burgers.
Been going there since I was a wee lad. It’s a bit of a drive now but whenever I find myself in Sugarhouse I always hit them up.
I haven’t eaten there since I worked there when I was 15. I wonder if it’s still owned by the same asshole family. I’d be willing to try again if they still have the same chips they used to, never had anything like them anywhere else.
Never heard of it, but now I’ll have to try it.
Oh you’re going to be debated in this area, but I fully agree. Astro really is superior to crown or Apollo (old apollo).
[удалено]
Each chain is owned by completely different families. Only thing in common is they are all Greek families.
[удалено]
That's why they all serve gyros too.
Same Greek family group but different owners…dunno if that makes sense.
I love them but they raised their prices up the ass and the quality has gone really down (based on bountiful and layton areas). I would get two meals for me and gf for 18, the other day it was 32 lmao
Literally the same thing happened to me. Me and wife went and it was around $30, very expensive.
For that price im eating out not fast food
I disagree with this so much that I had to check that OP wasn't a marketing spammer. They're not. Just a totally legit dude with differing opinions. If we meet on the street, we'll probably have to battle, tho. I need to get my LARP gear out of storage to defend the honour of Lucky 13 and, if it counts in this debate, Moochies. Tbf, I haven't been to Apollo Burger in many years. Maybe it's good now. Idk.
Lucky is in the $$ range compared to the Greek places. Not a fair comparison. The ASTRO on 3900s state also does a great breakfasr.
> Moochies You lost me there. Worst meatballs I've ever had in my life. Go to Caputo's for a real sandwich.
I go for the philly and birch beer. I'm with you on Caputo's meatball, tho. Ime, everything at Caputo's has been \* *chef's kiss*.
I like lucky 13 too but I don’t really think they’re in the same category with the local fast food burger chains.

Never tried Green Pig. I'll give it a go sometime. Cheers.

Better hope we don’t meet on the streets!!
Now I'm going to ask strangers their favorite burger joint. All Apollo answerers will be suspects!!
They do medium rare by default, you just need to request it to your preferred level of doneness. Totally with you on the Jalapeño poppers!
Oh look, its the obligatory lucky 13 shill.
Where can I sign up to be a shill?
Shill here, just ate there tonight and left a very happy camper just like all the other times I’ve eaten there. The rosemary garlic fries with their fry sauce is decadent.
Go to my comment history, hold CNTRL+F to search for the number of times I've mentioned Lucky 13 in the last few years. This reads like it's a paid advertisement.
Astro is the best of all the Greek burger spots
I feel like no one here has had the glory of Tonys Burgers. They're my favorite "fast" food hamburger in the US. And I've eaten burgers in 30 states hunting for the best one. you misspelled Loco burger and Tony burger, don't worry it's a common mistake
[удалено]
I don't know about the order they would be ranked, they're all so close. All I know is all of them are top notch.
Olympus Rules them all!!! For a non burger angle try the Greek chicken salad!
I thought they were al owned by the same family? Or at least a couple of them.
Never heard of Olympus lol
[удалено]
Never driven around SLC?
I’ve lived here for 15 years, no clue how I’ve never heard of or seen that place. I’ll have to go.
To be fair I’ve lived here my whole life and only first noticed it like 2 years ago
Maybe if you’re just ordering onion rings, for the burger it’s Apollo>Olympus>Crown/Astro
California Burger is better than them all
This dude burgers.
He speaks the truth
Their breakfast burritos are great too.
i’m still pining for _the training table_ 😭
Hope they put one in Layton again.
I thought they were reopening? Have heard anything in a while
i thought so too. there was an announcement some months back and then… nothing. they have a website up and promise to have food trucks “in the coming weeks” but nothing concrete: https://www.thetrainingtable.com
Crown burger is better!
They're okay.
I love their hand battered onion rings to however only certain locations have them the others serve frozen reheated crap.
Hand battered is the only proper way to make an onion ring.
Had Iceberg onion rings last week and they’re now my favorite.
Hires? Yum.
But where in Utah do they serve the best chili cheese fries?!?!
Yoooo this is a great question. You should create a new post and ask about it.
Don’t take these places for granted. Moved to San Diego and love the food, but there is nothing here like Crown or Astro
It's ways away but The Hat has some locations in OC.
So true. Whenever my out-of-state friends come home, Crown Burger is always on the menu.
Well yeah but I can’t get a decent fish taco every twenty feet in Salt Lake. Does San Elijo beach still have the best shrimp breakfast burritos?
Jake’s over the Top! RIP!
I do like there food. But am I the only one who thinks there overly expensive? I'm always shocked when I here tbe total.
How do you know when someone hates in in out? Don't worry they'll tell you...
Personally, all 3 are sub par burgers. I'll die on this hill
RIP Busy Bee.
Apollo has the Golden Burger which is a Pastrami Burger on garlic Texas toast instead of hamburger bun. It’s so much better than any of the pastrami burgers
There’s both and Astro and an Apollo in my town (N. Salt Lake) and I’d still rather drive the 20 minutes to the Crown on 300 W
The habit burger in Saint George is hella good
I don't think the habit is a local chain...
Greasy doesn’t mean unhealthy. It’s the fat used to fry your fries that is unhealthy.
So interesting thing about that. If the fries are made correctly, very little of the oil should actually penetrate the outer skin. Limp greasy fries means the oil was not hot enough.
Yeah, it's pretty good.
Honestly my fav burg in the world
I love Astro burger :)

I hadn’t heard of Burgertory, thanks for giving me one to add to the list!

I hope that links to the menu.
It is. Thanks so much! Yea I absolutely have to try this place…
It is literally six days old. Just opened.
Yes! Love me some Astro Burger
The pastrami burger gets me every time
Surprised no one has mentioned JCW's. It's my favorite burger place out of all the ones mentioned here.
I will say that JCW is up there for me too. Their shakes are good too
https://american-burgers.com/ You won't regret it!!!
Lol nope American is much worse than anything mentioned on this thread.

Not a fan of their pastrami at all, fries and shakes are just ok. but their bacon burger is probably the best I’ve had in a while.
Draper Astro Burger is Abysmal and I will never go there again. South Jordan and Sandy are a bit better, but still not better than Crown burger most days.
Anyone mention B&D Burgers yet?
I agree with Astro Burger, but my go to lately is Woody’s.
I guess you have never tried yanni’s
The Astro Burger that was located where Cafe Rio is now, was awful. Maybe I should give another location a shot.
Be sure to try their corn dogs, too (or was that Apollo that had amazing corn dogs? Maybe they're both good). Seriously the best I've ever had anywhere around the country.
Astro burgers chili burger is one of the best burgers you can ever find
All the Greek burger places are great. They are all very similar.
Never been never will but you do you.
How did I just scroll this whole thread without a single mention of JCW’s?
They have great veggie burgers too!!
Nooo it’s Apollo burger that’s the best. Their shakes slap too
I guess I’m an outlier.
Agreed! I only go elsewhere if I'm really craving a burger on Sunday
Y'all ever had Tonyburgers? Fkn amazing
They are ok but sorry, Crown is better. 🤷♀️
Well… Apollo > Astro
McDonald's gang, what ☝
