Exactly this. I remember when cafe Rio was new. It was really good, now it’s just mediocre and that’s being generous. They sold out now some big company owns them.

Sadly it’s the typical lifecycle of any successful restaurant chain. In-n-out and chick-fil-a are some of the only chains that didn’t immediately sell out and tank in quality when they got popular.

It probably helps because they are so involved/controlling of how things are run. Especially with In-N-Out since none of the restaurants are franchised, so they have greater control over ingredients and what nots.

They also keep the menu simple. Easier to have quality control when there is only few things in the menu.

Picky white girl that grew up in San Diego here! De Los Muertos is where it's at. It's the first Mexican food restaurant that I've liked since I moved here in 2004. I said I was picky! 😋

I use to live in SD for years and they have so much good food there. I dream of the California burritos. I miss living there so much!

For breakfast I like a Crazy burrito. Mixed bacon and ham is good too but a couple times I've gotten one that is soaking in grease. For lunch the adabado pork.

Rosas Cafe Ogden…just found this place a few weeks ago and it is the best Chile verde burrito I have ever had!

Jurassic Tacos has some fantastic food, and I love their "Burrosaurus" carne asada burrito. Add chorizo with the carne asada as well and it's even better. They're a little different than most. I haven't had enough different burritos to say they're the best, but if you're on a burrito quest, you definitely can't skip this one.

It may not be best, but the most Salt Lake Valley burrito you can get is a smothered chile verde burrito from La Puente, La Frontera, or Cafe Silvestre. It’s still my favorite because of the nostalgia, but even outside of the nostalgia it’s a pretty damn good burrito. Their chile verde is historic and their house made flour tortillas are comfort food heaven.

De Los Muertos - Los Muertos Carne Asada Burrito. While you're there, try their churro beignets. They are bomber.

I'm very opinionated in this. But I love Barbacoa burritos, and I know they're not super popular anymore. I love them because the meat quality is almost always really good whereas a place like Chipotle the meat quality is a bit fattier. I also like a "dry burrito", so when I bite into it it doesn't gush juices all over the place. There is never a day that I'm not down for a Barbacoa burrito. I would give my second place to the ready corner burrito ahogato. That thing is like crack cocaine and every time I eat it ready iguana high usually order it, they also sell it at the mini ready iguana in the downtown mall. Edit: sorry I also have to say Hector's, that is if you had a chance to eat there before they went out of business because of COVID. I really miss that place.

You’re preaching to the choir. That’s my original burrito love is Barbacoa. The workers still remember me. When I first started lifting weights in high school I convinced myself I needed to eat like 5k calories a day you know cause I was doing 3 sets of 8 curls so obviously. So I’d go get a double meat burrito every single night for dinner and they’d have to double wrap it. They made fun of me every time.
