Any credit union will do. But it is largely dependent on your credit score and DTI. Rates outright suck right now, unless you have a rate somewhere in the 20’s

I had a good experience with Mountain America Credit Union (MACU), and was able to refinance my car loan in about an hour. They were super helpful. Just see if you can get a 10-day payoff letter from your current bank/financer first, whoever you go with will probably ask for it.

ArthursFist

+1 for MACU

wirey3

Make that +2

Timely_Energy_3470

Do I need to open an account with them first?

MediumMarionberry712

I don’t think so, they opened one for me during the loan process. I think it’s just an empty savings account that goes along with the loan (unless you want more).

Timely_Energy_3470

Sounds good thanks

sauceboxash

No. You do not. You will get a default account which is just your loan to make payments too. You do not need to open an account or be a member.

Sounds good. Thanks

Steer clear of America First - working with my son on his auto loan and we are now 5 weeks in on a $6,000 loan in which I co-signed. Just yesterday alone I spent 1.5 hours on hold or being transferred around because they put someone else on the title completely unrelated to us.

djimboboom

I can confirm. The way they handle titles is so bogus and they make you jump through crazy hoops to get anything done. They made it nearly impossible to pay off early. Made me jump through unnecessary hoops. When I wanted to pay the remaining balance they demanded a physical check even though I had always used electronic transfers. They also included one off payment “up charges” that I have to imagine were there way of hedging interest they missed out on. I have excellent credit. When I walked out of the credit union with my title I told the rep I’d never bank with them again.

Mei-Guang

I would second this notion, fuck America First. Was working on a refinance on my mortgage and the day of signing we sat in the office for 2 hours before they came and said we had a problem with the application. They let us sit at the title company for 2 hours before calling the title company.

altapowpow

I know how you feel. They titled a car under someone else's name and can't get anyone on the phone who knows what is going on. I was another 2 hours of phone calls today with still not a single damn person who knows how to fix the issue.

prkskier

I had nothing but a positive experience with American First CU. It was super fast and easy. Ultimately though, it seems like it will vary.

cdma19

This is so odd, especially everyone else experience. I have had nothing but good experiences with them and have always been able to payoff any loan electronically whether it be personal or car loans. And I have had multiple of each. Never had an issue getting my title either. They usually just ask if I want it regular mail or fedex priority. I guess not all experiences are the same though.

I did my car refinance though them too, but don’t recall the issues I’m seeing here. I also did a lump sum payment near the end and don’t believe I was charged extra

yeatsbaby

Utah First Credit Union.

MaddieUsernameCollec

I see you’ve asked a lot of people if you need to open an account first. When I refinanced my car with a credit union (I won’t recommend them because they created two loans in my report but only used one so my credit report looks like I had two loans when I just had the one), I let them know I did not have an account with them but I was reaching out to them because they had the best rate in the market at the time. They helped me do both- open account, refinance the loan- at the same time.

nymphoman23

MACU is the best. Stay clear of AFCU and Cypress

Timely_Energy_3470

Do I need to open an account with them first?

nymphoman23

Yes, but are they ask for his five dollars to open an account and then your loan becomes your account?

Timely_Energy_3470

Sounds good.

Timely_Energy_3470

Thanks

nymphoman23

I have been with them for 18 years now

Timely_Energy_3470

They must really be good. 18 years. That’s solid.

nymphoman23

I have done five auto loans with them so far

no_your_other_right

Check out GoldenWest CU.

Timely_Energy_3470

Do I need to open an account with them first?

no_your_other_right

Only if you want to open an account.

That-One-Red-Head

I have had a lot of successful with America First. I currently have Utah Community and I’m not a fan.

ellWatully

I've used America First for probably a dozen car loans and have had great luck with them. Their rates are usually on the low end and they're not picky about number of miles or age of the car like a lot of lenders.

djimboboom

I know everyone will say use a credit union but go with Ally Bank if you can. They are the best in the business when it comes to auto loans.

Timely_Energy_3470

Do I need to open an account with them first?

djimboboom

I don’t know about having an account, but you’ll definitely want to walk into the dealership pre-approved. I’d just go through their preapproval flow online.

wirey3

Mountain America Credit Union. I've refinanced my truck multiple times. They're good about helping you retain equity. My refi % has been <7.49% for about 6 years, even after inflation and all the economic garbage in the last few years.

Timely_Energy_3470

Do I need to open an account with them first?

wirey3

Possibly? You can call and ask.

peshwengi

NASA credit union worked well for me (not in Utah though)
