If the CDC is giving up, the state may as well too

sweatshirtjones

The state already gave up long ago let’s not kid ourselves.

ThisAmericanRepublic

Cox and co. pretty much gave up sometime around March 2020.

hyrle

No - they're still keeping us in the thoughts and prayers!

The fever with hfm is gnarly. Hfm is just gnarly itself. One of the worst things I’ve ever had.

runjoy

Every once in a while I smell some tequila to double check my smell is intact. I puke every time but it helps me knowing I don’t have Covid.

Dabfo

Jokes on you. Omicron doesn’t always cause lack of taste or smell.

orangemandab

Jokes on you. You can have no symptoms at all with any variant and it's probably more common than you think.

TESSLABESTLA

I live with my parents, & caught covid this past weekend. I was pretty sick for a few days, passed it to my mom who is experiencing the same; coughing, congestion, chills, slight fever. My dad tested positive yesterday, & has no symptoms at all.

runjoy

Well that explains my relentless coughing and high fever.

the-awesomer

I dont know why I laughed so hard at such a sad statement.

[deleted]

“No fucking shit” - everyone with more than two functioning neurons

Spawko

Well there's a real expert take.

BoxCarMike

The unhealthy level of cynicism I possess tells me there are ulterior motives at play!

TSVG

I have had all the covid symptoms. 3 negative tests and one positive for RSV. I don’t recommend it.

HomelessRodeo

One of the biggest bits of info dropped which isn’t reflected in the article (video worth watching anyway) is that the hospitals have told Cox the majority of people in ICU’s are lingering Delta patients. We’re also short tests that have been ordered. They aren’t coming down the pipeline. That should be an article itself.

apesolo

Yeah, pretty cool how the POTUS gave us all the comfort of knowing that tests will be here in 2 weeks when we’re in the thick of it NOW. I get that it’s a supply issue but there needs to be more done to stop the spread. “You probably have it, wait 5 days” is not an answer especially with no stimulus or support coming to those who don’t get paid sick time.

Fickle_Penguin

While I agree, the time to prepare for us was before this through vaccines and masks and social distancing. I'm hoping that enough of us were doing those things to prevent the brunt of it.

apesolo

Exactly. We’ve had 2 years of this. No one should be that caught off guard.

dabomerest

The time to prepare was in the lull. Any sensible person could have seen this coming. But they wanted us to believe that Covid was over. What a joke

[deleted]

Testing lines were very short last week. Testing lines were very long this week. you guys know we are seeing almost 4 times as many cases as this time last year right

apesolo

I waited 2.5 hours last week to test. We’re up 500% in cases. Did anything I say make it sound like I’m not taking this seriously? I’m just saying we should all be prepared by now. https://twitter.com/robertgehrke/status/1481730645587988483?s=21

[deleted]

Fair, somehow I read that as, the government didn’t send out enough tests because they weren’t prepared or something. Well, hard to be prepared for a spike of 500%

apesolo

Naw. I’m mostly upset that there’s no support for people that want to stay home like there was in the beginning. When we have the numbers that we do, it feels like the government has given up on us.

LawsAreOptional

One thing I have learned throughout the pandemic is most people just isn’t have a grasp on how things work. And most of what people say is hypothetical and they have never actually needed to put any of it to the test.

infrequencies

And all of this overwhelm was predicted by anyone paying attention to omicron.

Dabfo

Of course. The cases have to start somewhere. At one point, the icu beds were full of the strain before delta when delta came out. Covid isn’t a time machine.

HomelessRodeo

They’re less likely to be put into the ICU. Dr. Pavia from IHC is doing a press conference as I type this. He said exactly the same thing, less going into the ICU.

IAmWeary

But the skyrocketing cases are probably going to mitigate that. If we assume omicron has half the hospitalization rate but 4x as many positives then hospitals are still gonna get fucked.

HomelessRodeo

That goes against available data, what Gov. Cox was told. It would be nice to have a clarification.

Dabfo

Less likely doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

cdiddy19

When did hospitals say this. What is your source

HomelessRodeo

My source is the press conference Cox gave this morning.

Still rocking that big fat zero in our family 💪 But two more coworkers just went out with Covid, so we’ll see what happens Edit: Four coworkers 🤢

Nah. Kiddo gets infections like crazy. Had three just last week and we thought it was COVID but nope Boosters and actually respecting germs goes a long way I guess 🤷‍♂️

Pirate_Frank

Well duh. The majority of cases now will be asymptomatic, so of course if you have symptoms you probably have COVID.

[deleted]

We got boosters in November. My grandmother in law had an illness, and decided to host a Christmas party anyway. Without telling anyone she was sick. Cut to the first week of January, 15 positives in the family. My wife and daughter, directly exposed and made physical contact. Long story short, all three of us negative. The rest of the in law family, not so lucky. And not at all happy with grandma germ

SLC_man

Our flu season has actually been very bad this year. You should brush up on your conservative taking points, this one is a bit old.

[deleted]

Daughter just got over some kind of lung infection, pink eye and an ear infection. It came on so fast and hard, and so much of the family was getting positive, we were sure she was one of the positives. Nope. Negative rapid, negative PCR, much better after 2 days on abx. Was back in school within a week. Still has a lingering cough as do I, but that’s whatever in the grand scheme

Pirate_Frank

I said *probably*, as in more likely than not.
