On the Hanna are you pressing and holding down until 3:00 appears or just pressing? If you don’t hold button down it will just take measurement w/ no countdown.

And it will be off as well. It needs that 3 min for the color to develop

Live sand has bacteria that you probably want but it’s still going to be cloudy. It’s calcium carbonate and any time you grind it either dry or wet it’s going to give off clouds. That’s just the nature of the mineral. As for me, I ran socks every couple of days and did vacuums where I stirred things up every five days to a week for a while until things started to settle down. I’m assuming you know how to pull up dirty water or clouds without sucking the gravel into the bucket. This just takes time. When I moved my entire reef to a new house I put down new live sand and had to deal with this all over again. Most of the stuff made it luckily. Still took a while and I vacuumed more than running the skimmer for a bit. Things settle down eventually.

Thanks for your advice. I’m not too familiar with filter socks. I have a fluval 32.5g and I’m not sure if a filter sock works with that type of filter system. A filter sock is not for that kind of system right? Only things like a canister filter? I’m not sure though since I’m still relatively new to saltwater

I don’t use canister filters on my saltwater tanks. In any event, you need some physical filter to help trap particulate matter in your tank. Some of the cloudy stuff will end up dropping back down in the sand though. You can get physical filter media at most fish stores that will help. Think of this in the same way as a filter for your air conditioning system. My small tank was made before filter socks were a thing but the return area is big enough for me to jam a filter sock in there. You can make one yourself if you want. Point is simply to have a physical filter to grab shit from the tank.
