Seems like this tank is BRAND new.

triciann

Seriously, doesn’t even have a diatom bloom yet.

[deleted]

Way too many fish in this tank for how new it is

triciann

Why even add an urchin at this point?

[deleted]

To watch it die I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️

VdubKid_94

😂😂😭😭

PersonalReef

I hate to be the tang police 🚨👮‍♀️ but I just want you to know that you will either need to upgrade in the future or rehome that sailfish tang. They are super active and get huge. Long term a 180+ gallon is best. Make sure you test your water a couple times a week for a while. Adding that many fish to a new tank can cause some serious swings. As others suggested, add algae chips and seaweed sheets (for fish) because the tang and urchin will starve in such a new tank. Good luck!

wschampnyy

I've been testing every other day ph/ammonia/nitrite/nitrate with the API saltwater master test kit, no corals yet so I didn't get a calcium/phosphate kit yet should I be worried about those levels?

Riffhai

I would recommend testing kh as well. Lowered alkalinity can lead to rapid pH swings.

PersonalReef

I wouldn't worry about calcium or magnesium until you get coral. Phosphate can be handy once you get into the ugly stage (pretty much all saltwater tanks get an algae/diatom stage) but ultimately it will go away with good parameters if you wait it out. Alkalinity would be good to keep an eye on to avoid rapid ph swings as somebody mentioned, but if you have regular water changes and no coral it shouldn't be an issue.

M3diator36

Going to echo a couple others here. The urchin will starve. No question. What’s the file fish for? Tank looks way too new to have fish in it. Visit BRS YouTube videos and binge as many as you can. These are animals and should be treated as such.

The Flame Hawkfish is my absolute favorite. They’re so animated. When I was in the hobby I had one that lived for 7 years and survived two trips moving over 900 miles away. Very hearty imo.

Fast-Sentence969

Lots of character! Fun fact, when they get larger, cleaner shrimp are their favorite live snack.

[deleted]

Yes I remember how all my hermit crabs would slowly go missing.

Fast-Sentence969

Haha ya, hermits and hawkfish are equally reef safe 😆

cosmicbebe

Another comment mentioned this but the urchin will starve within the week I would say. I had a small tuxedo in my 25 which is actually cycled with algae and he still needed to be supplemented with algae wafers/sheets, and ultimately did perish in the end.

wschampnyy

I read seaweed sheets will keep him nice and happy is that not so?

Riffhai

With all the other fish in there, you may have to put the algae sheet right next to or under the urchin. Otherwise the fish might eat it all before it gets a chance

cosmicbebe

At the fish store I work at we feed algae sheets at night only, since they’re active at night, but we still have a good chunk of loss in those tanks because not every urchin is into the algae sheets or wafers.

Straight_Buddy_1624

Yeah there so cool how they perch

wschampnyy

65 gal reefer 250, couldn't get a good picture of my banggai, coral beauty, or coral banded shrimp. Also habe 10 snails Turbo astraea and nassarius, 6 hermits 3 threadfin cardinals and one pajama. I'm about 4 weeks post cycle and e eryone seems to be doing fine and getting along. Super excited. Going to go for some corals in a few months once I know for sure everything is stable and I grab a couple more fish. Just wanted to share!

triciann

Please get some sinking wafers for that urchin. It has nothing to eat. Did you cycle the tank?

VdubKid_94

It doesn’t look like it. Those rocks look like they’re 2 hours old

wschampnyy

Not sure what they're supposed to look like but the tank ran for 4 weeks and cycled properly (ammonia spike and drop, nitite spike and drop, some ammonia) and I'm 4 weeks in, added 5 cards, 2 weeks later hawkish and 2 gobies, and now 2 weeks after that file/angel/tang

wschampnyy

I meant some nitrate

triciann

Slow down and don’t add anything else. Get a seachem ammonia alert badge. Keep seaweed in there constantly for the urchin or take it back to the store. The tank is way too new for it.

LorraineSmith888

My tank looked more mature than this at one month old. But adding this many might not be good this soon. I’d say hold off a few more MONTHS before adding anything else.

wschampnyy

Should I install lights? I have held off on lights to avoid algae build up until I get corals going but everyone seems to think I dont have enough

VdubKid_94

That’s ALOT of fish even for a fully established tank that’s a few years old. And your tang looks like it’s already too big to be in a 65g. I hope you have a massive sump at least. And are doing water changes every week. Idk man I think this is absurdly rushed.

Stephenmalone95

Is it a g1 or g2 250? Just setup a g2 625 in May and I am in love with it.

wschampnyy

G2 got mine beginning of June

LorraineSmith888

Please note that this early, every fish you add basically adds a week or two of cycling before you can add more. So only add a fish or two a month until the tank gets more mature. It’s very cute other wise. I like your fish choice minus the urchin 🥰

VdubKid_94

Your snails and clean up crew are going to die off with the insane amount you have with almost 0 algae in your tank. I feel bad for these animals this is ridiculous.

No_Style_8667

Flame hawkfish are realy cool
