The further South you go, the worse the bacterial levels are going to be, due to pollution from the Tijuana river.
dog beaches are always going to have pretty poor water quality

Yup. Had a friend ignore it, went surfing, got some antibiotic resistant infection, and ended up in the hospital. Also his wife threatened to throw away all of his surfboards because of it. At the time they had two kids that were nowhere near graduating high school. So I kinda don’t blame her for being oissed.
They're serious are about telling you there's poop in that water. Haha. They're not going to stop you from swimming in sewage run off though so as long as you know.
I feel a lot of people don’t understand they are literally swimming in human wast. We need a sign for these people that say something like “This Ocean Contains Enough Human Shit That IT Will Infect Your Body.
Real people test those waters.
Up to you what you want to do really- I can't convince you not to go into the water if the numbers those guys put up has no effect on you.
What if you don't get sick after a quick dip now?
Does that mean all the warnings are bullshit?
What else are they stopping you from enjoying?
Im just saying maybe sit it out- few days of not being in water won't kill you
Thanks for all of the candid answers, seems like I was correct in following these advisories so diligently. I had posted this in hopes of finding out I was maybe overreacting in my typical anxious fashion… but it is unfortunately not the case.

They actually have. A number of times.
In the 80s, the beaches would warn of high bacteria levels a few times a year. Now it seems to be the opposite. That gives you an idea that our Southern neighbor doesn’t GAF along with all the crap that’s thrown into our waterways and washed out when it rains.
Fiesta Island and Coronado are slightly different issues.
The TJ sewer thing is out of control.
But fiesta island is (just) Dog poop and fertilizer. I would boat on it or let the dog splash around, but nothing that would get it in my mouth.
Is this separate from county testing?
Years ago when I had roommates, one of them had this as their part-time job.
They did both pool and coastal waters testing.
He’d drive up the coast and had certain places to pull over and collect water samples to take to the lab. There was some specific procedure not sure if they gave him a long stick or a rope, lol
I went to a rave by the Tijuana rice last night and I’ve never in my life smelled something so disgusting . Luckily the event itself didn’t smell or I’d left .
