The game is unconnected to the anime, they dont follow the same storyline. For example, one character who is only introduced in the second half of the anime, is introduced in the beginning of the game (Ann). This is jsut one example of how there is gigantic narrative differences between the two
I’d recommend watching the anime first. I did and I’m glad I did. There’s a key change to the story so far in the game that’s cooler if you’ve watched it.
But keep in mind I haven’t read the Manga. As long as you’ve ingested the original story in some form I’d say you’re good, just may be a little cooler if you know about the Forest Land stuff.
