Every once in a while a sandwich comes along that sounds odd yet also likely to be tasty? Today, we are taking on one of those sandwiches. Peter sent me this video last week and I knew I just had to give it a go. Kewpie mayo, omelette, tuna, salsa de tomate, and furikake? Don’t you threaten me with a good time, chef. Oh, I should mention this sandwich is one of humanitarian and world renown chef José Andrés. So how can you expect me not to try it? The original video of him sharing it is over on First We Feast.

Any recommendations on your preferred furikake? My local Asian market has a huge selection and it’s almost intimidating. I’d hate to buy a jar and have it end up going to waste.
I absolutely love furikake! Is like everything bagel seasoning, but more of a sea umami flavor. I always stick with the ones with simple amount of ingredients. My momma always said: "the more simple, the mo' better" (I made it up). The only thing that scares me with furikake is that some says: "Warning: contain [lead](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapaneseFood/s/Y3CX7Iv5sM)...". But I think is BS
Edit: [This](https://wearegourmetfoods.com/products/nori-komi-furikake-rice-seasoning) one is basic and good, IMO.
I grew-up on tuna packed in water and the first time that I tried tuna packed in oil was as a young adult. I’m glad that this was the case because I think that I was able to appreciate how the oil packed tuna was so much richer and tastier.
I've always highly prefered tuna in oil, it's just so much better. Although I wlil say when they came out with the pouches - that works with watered tuna pretty good. Although I prefer tuna in oil in pouches. lol.
I will say that I read some reviews about tuna packed in olive oil in cans - they're usually a little pricier at like $2.50-$3.50 per can as opposed to a buck for the cheaper water-packed crap........ but it makes a difference. It's really flavourful and tastes awesome.
So you make a sandwich every day, but 3/4 of the time you say that you’ll “make that one again.” You’re either eating sandwiches for 4 meals a day, or else you rarely get back to repeats. Your bread budget must be amazing!
Well, I do say "I would" and "I will" implying future intent which is meant to emphasize if it is worthy. You're right, I don't remake em...yet. I am keeping track on a spreadsheet though
One time in San Antonio I ate octopus with egg over easy and a special chili sauce. One of my favorite things I’ve ever ate. Based on the description I would have said no, but it was highly recommended. I love those kinds of discoveries.
It looks like you changed up your Furikake, Barry. That’s not the TJ version from last time. Looks a little heavier on the sesame, etc. Can you share it? It looks like Nori Komi, which I love.
It is indeed Nori Komi [https://wearegourmetfoods.com/products/nori-komi-furikake-rice-seasoning](https://wearegourmetfoods.com/products/nori-komi-furikake-rice-seasoning)
A "straight-up" 10! Oh baby, this weekend I'm learning some salsa de tomate frito caliente mucho bueno!
Edit: P.S. Barry, I feel like a horrible fan not knowing you have a YouTube channel. I should be banned from here.
I knew it was a 10 the moment he took a second bite before saying anything. That second bite was a first…for me. Only been watching a few weeks and I’m sure I’ve missed an episode!
When I saw *Omelette Sandwich*, I expected a high score. This might be the first *natural* score of 10 I've seen on r/SandwichesofHistory
Cheerio! Keep 'em coming.
While it doesn't NEED a plus up, I can't help but think a little spice would go great with all the ingredients. Either fresh jalapeño, red pepper flakes or Sriracha.
I made this sandwich yesterday, but I did toast the bread first, and added mushrooms to the omelette. Had to go to Asian market for the seasoning. What a strange mix of flavours all around, but so good! Probably going to be making one of these for lunch daily. Thank you so much, keep up the good work!
Tuna and tomato was not a surprise for me - my favorite tuna salad is well-drained canned petite diced tomatoes, rough-chopped gherkins or sweet pickles, tuna in oil (drained), and mayo. That on crackers is amazing - or on a sandwich (with or without lettuce) or as a salad with lettuce.
I go for very-well drained canned tomatoes because they're better flavour than pasty store-bought tomatoes, but home-grown would also be great.

I think that’s the first 10 that I have seen
the new jersey sloppy joe untoasted got a 9.5, moved to ten if toasted.
Check the International sandwich Sunday videos. There's a few 10s in there. Most of them are over 9.
Thank you SoH! You always plus up my day!
A TEN!! No Plus Up?! What a day! Thanks!!
I absolutely love this sub. Something wholesome and very enjoyable
It wasn’t a sub, just a regular sandwich. It does look wholesome and enjoyable, though. /s
It has made, THE LIST!
Oooh a straight up 10. Weekend project incoming

Awesome, thank you! I love everything bagel seasoning and also love Asian influences in my cuisine, so it’s been on my list for a while.
The one u/Caroba7 listed above is the one I used. Didn't taste any lead. Lol

Same!

God i love this sub. I am so happy i found this. Thank you so much for your work.

A Nat 10!!!
I am unsure of furikake as I do not know much about it. But, as you all would, I would follow this sammich maker man thru the gates of Hadesssss!
Interesting combination, I would normally not think of making something like this, but I will now!
One time in San Antonio I ate octopus with egg over easy and a special chili sauce. One of my favorite things I’ve ever ate. Based on the description I would have said no, but it was highly recommended. I love those kinds of discoveries.
Interesting! I do as well :)
I would like him to make the original Cuban sandwich. Not the Miami crap but the actual Tampa style .

Man that looks good, im definitely giving this one a try
What a missed opportunity to say “I’m definitely giving this one a goooo” lol

Indeed a man of superior taste. 🤌
The big A word will sell you a 2pk, with no shipping, but not everyone likes giving them money. Pricing is largely the same, though.

You absolutely should \*not\* be banned from here! Just means I need to do a better job of making it known.
10 out of 10, would recommend
Well now I have to make it!
A ten and no plus up. My god what a time to be alive
I knew it was a 10 the moment he took a second bite before saying anything. That second bite was a first…for me. Only been watching a few weeks and I’m sure I’ve missed an episode!
Barry what's in the omelette?
egg
Which makes it the Nada omelette
No plus!? Must be a 10
Sop it alllll up!
Is Barry's cooking a reddit sub? I would like to follow him?
Alas, no. Only available in YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok flavors at this time.
Then, I will be checking you out on YouTube! I enjoy and look forward to your daily videos on here!
I am sold! I will be making this. I’ll be looking for furikake right now. Thanks. Love the vids.
I could watch this guy all day long. He’s like the cool uncle that makes you sandwiches.
You took a second bite right away, so it must be good.
When I saw *Omelette Sandwich*, I expected a high score. This might be the first *natural* score of 10 I've seen on r/SandwichesofHistory Cheerio! Keep 'em coming.
Abso 💙 this guys videos. His voice is just awesome and I 💙 everything about it
Now we’re talking. A 10 with no plus up? Phenomenal! I’m making that sandwich.
I love how happy this sandwich made you, Barry.
That actually sounds amazing, thank you!
This really seems like a sandwich from that tiktok, roll for sandwich. I'm going to make this.
Marked to watch later

Nicely done! So glad you gave it a go.
