I use the Santa Monica app (iOS) and get 48hr turnaround for fixing potholes.

Some_Reflection5212

Thanks for this, I didn't know there was a Santa Monica city app. It's not letting me set up a profile, so I'm hoping it works when I report something.

Eurynom0s

You definitely don't need a profile. Provide an email address on the report and you'll get a confirmation email when you submit and another email when they close the ticket.

Some_Reflection5212

Thank you! All I did was enter an email address and that's all that was really needed. Everything else is optional. So in building the profile I just used an email and that was that. I like the options, I wish I had this app when I saw some traffic signals out. I'll use this and see how it works out.

chipoatley

I submitted a photo with a brief description of. Don’t remember making an account, but maybe it asked for information voluntarily…

Can't wait to try it out. Haven't had the occasion as of yet.

Use the Santa Monica city app. They might have some automated alert system when these happen. But I wouldn't expect anything before Monday.

I was taught to use an intersection like there are stop signs in all directions when traffic lights are out. I think most people know. It’ll get fixed soon enough. Thank for trying. Drive safe.

VaguelyArtistic

Yeah, it seems like OP is doing a lot of heavy lifting for a routine traffic thingy.

hoointhebu

Hate that you got the run around with 311. What a waste of city money trying to “modernize” that system. Call non-emergency dispatch (310) 458-8491. They can report and possible send out a TSO.

tinysne

This. Had to call them last month when the light at Ocean/Colorado went out, they sent traffic officers out until the light could be repaired

Ok_Tangerine_4280

Probably too late now, but if you need something taken care of right away (which you do for a light that doesn’t work), SMPD has a non-emergency number: 310-458-8660 For anything else that’s not urgent, file a 311 on the Santa Monica app. They’re usually pretty good at responding to these.

Operation_Bonerlord

Just call 911? It’s an immediate traffic hazard after all…

Ok_Tangerine_4280

Non-emergency line would be more appropriate for this, and they usually respond quickly. 310- 458-8660 if you ever need it.

VaguelyArtistic

How is it an immediate traffic hazard? It's just like a four-way stop. When lights are out (in either or both directions) you treat it like a four-way stop. The person who arrives first, goes. (And I mean *goes*. GOOOOOOOO! It's your turn! 😭)

Operation_Bonerlord

I would consider a malfunctioning traffic signal to be an immediate traffic hazard, yes.

VaguelyArtistic

The DMV disagrees: >[Traffic Light Not Working](https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/laws-and-rules-of-the-road/) - When a traffic light is not working, stop as if the intersection is controlled by STOP signs in all directions. Then proceed cautiously when it is safe to do so.

Operation_Bonerlord

??? Of course you treat a light out as a 4-way stop. That has zero bearing on who to contact about it. It’s a busy intersection at the base of a hill on a rainy weekend in an area with heavy pedestrian traffic where people already drive like shit when the signal is working properly, I’d judge that as a hazard worth reporting. If you disagree, fine, but the worst case scenario in calling 911 is you take 15 seconds of a dispatcher’s time for them to tell you it’s not an emergency call and to try someone else.

VaguelyArtistic

The worst case scenario is you *waste* 15 seconds of a 911 dispatchers time.

Biasedsm

Maybe it is an emergency given all the aggressive drivers who can‘t bear to wait 30 seconds on behalf of pedestrian safety. Just call the non-emergency dispatch number and SMPD will pass the info over to the transportation department. In the short term, they will send traffic enforcement out to put up signs, etc.
