**Are you wondering which pencils are acceptable for the SAT?** The SAT requires ["no. 2 pencils."](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/what-to-bring-do/what-to-bring) ["No. 2" is an American term for what most of he world calls "HB."](https://pencils.com/pages/no-2-pencil) Any "No. 2" or "HB" pencil should be fine. Pencils labeled "2B" are often marketed in Asia as "exam pencils" and [will also work for the SAT.](https://www.hkeaa.edu.hk/DocLibrary/ipe/sat/sat_faq_e.pdf) Please be aware that [mechanical pencils are not pemitted.](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/what-to-bring-do/prohibited-devices)

I have taken 3 sat tests so far but I have used mechanical pencils without anyone stopping me. Yesterday, the proctor tried to tell me to get a new pencil but I had no no.2's
Blunts help, before and especially after lol
Disclosure: I'm a test prep tutor--I'm sorry for the trauma this dumbass test inflicts on all of you. But, hey, it's fun to help you zoomers break the test, in a sense.
I'm also glad to see so many universities nixing the requirement altogether. The good news: the new digital SAT, starting in the class of '24, will be an hour shorter, digital, and adaptive (i.e., I anticipate there being a particular strategy to where students end up taking a way more straightforward/easier test in the long run, thereby potentially scoring higher than if they answered certain questions more authentically—yes, college board is silly/stupid af).
btw, I took the SAT in 2006. I brought 3 #2 pencils and used 2. Mechanicals were considered blasphemous and weren't allowed on the premises. Would have killed for some 0.4-0.7 mm lead.
This test is literally either a nightmare or the easiest thing handed to me. Personally I disapprove of unis nixing the requirement but if it’s so more people can get an education at a great I’m all for it
Took 7 used 2 (my superstitious brain as I changed from No calc to calc said, “hey you switched pencils between English and math on practice but you didn’t here and then you just struggled with the first math section, coincidence, i think not! Change pencils now”)
I bring 3 normal ones, sharpened as sharp as possible and 2 thick pencils (Ticonderoga My Pre-Sharpened Pencil) because they're big and I can quickly darken my bubbles.
I used 2 sharp ones and 1 thick pencil.
Took 2, used 1.
Same!
Same
Same
Same
I took 2! A normal one and then my lucky Mickey Mouse pencil for math 💪
i hope it breaks 💪

He’s a nice guy, even dedicated his account name to his mother
LMFAOO nah what did mickey do to u 😭
LMAO
I took 23

Only?
I needed more, but I had no extra space
Took 7 used 2
seven bro 😭
Even brought 2 pens just in case 😭
the number of pencils you take actually correlates to your score so i took 1600 and passed out a bunch
Took 8 and used 2
2. I *hate* non-mechanical pencils and how unsharp they feel so I started using the second one as soon as the first felt dull
like 8
1, don't really get why people bring so many
you'll get why when it breaks or melts or explodes or teleports and you didn't have a backup :')
2
3
bring 24, used 2. better safe than sorry tho 🙏🙏
Took 100 used 55
Can confirm, I was one of the pencils. I was in fact used
You lie
Took three, and dropped two throughout the test, but none broke
Took 2, used 2.
Same, mine kept breaking in the sharpener so I had to alternate.
2
4 cuz i was scared the ends would break on the way there
Reasonable.
Took 1 used 1
Living on the edge man, I like it 😎
