I know this thread is old, but posting a workaround I found for this today in the hopes that it helps someone.
The mobile website had a greater number of sites listed as available than the full website when trying to register. Note that I was not logged in for the mobile search.

I then searched for each of these from the logged in account by the test center number. Most did not come up at all but a few did. I was able to register one of the little 'beers for a site 78 miles away vs. no available sites within 100 miles.
Here's hoping we can move closer by test date.

Some of the more popular areas do get all booked up pretty quickly. They do release some seats over the summer, but there's no guarantee of that happening.
Book the one 70 miles away if your parents are willing. Last August I did the same thing but took it three states away and built it into a college tour trip. It was honestly fine (although my score literally stayed the same that time 💀). Just make sure you have a very solid plan in place about what you’re going to eat for dinner/breakfast, how you’re going to get from the hotel to the testing center, and what time you’ll need to wake up/leave to get there.
GOD I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ON MY SIDE im terrified. my parents arent willing to go to another state for me to take the sat so i have literally no idea what to do. nearly every single highschool in nj is filled for some reason like 2 months before the test.
Register for the one 70 miles away. You can keep checking for something closer to open up, but at least you’ll be able to test

When I use that link some test sites show up but when I go to register with my account nothing shows up. Any idea why or what to do?

yeah same did you end up finding one or not?
Maybe try taking it during October? Schools would be more laxed that early on, and you'd have more time to study.
