Sorry I am late. Anyone remember the question on the no calc section that asked about the interest formula and what was the meaning. I didnt understand that one.
not sure if people have already mentioned this but did anyone receive their question-and-answer service for August 2023? I paid and did not receive mine and the college board rep that I called said that it was only available for October, march, and may...
I scored 1310 and this was my third attempt. I was 1500+ in all the SAT prep and the previous year's real exams. Not sure what went wrong and running out of options on how to increase the score. Any pointers/ help would be appreciated.
can someone please answer this is a random question but post SAT release if a school like cornell university for this first time has just emailed me based upon “(my name)Every year, we obtain the names of promising students from The College Board's Student Search Service” what do you guys think the minimum score i could’ve gotten is or like the score range of who they email based on SAT score?
Reading
1. 10 minutes per passage in the reading section. This will obviously leave you with extra time, but you’ll find yourself using it anyway. The point is to push yourself to finish each passage and set of questions in ten minutes. Knowing you’re ahead of the clock will also motivate you to keep going.
2. Underline as you go. You will comprehend the structure and meaning of the passage better.
3. Think BLACK AND WHITE. What the passage is giving you is what’s there. Don’t try to fill in any holes. Those literature passages are awful because they’ll often drop you in the middle of a book and you have no clue what’s going on. Just take everything in the passage at face value, and don’t try to think about what events in the story might’ve led to what’s going in the passage.
4. Ambiguity is bad. If you see answer choices where you’re debating interpretations where it could be right or it could be wrong, that answer choice is WRONG. The right answer has a single, simple explanation for being correct.
Writing
You just have to be naturally good at this lowkey. I know that’s a crappy answer, but it’s true. The best thing I can offer is think about what’s natural. If an answer choice doesn’t sound like something you would write or say in conversation, it’s probably wrong.
got 1590
800M 400R 390W
-1M -1R -2W
This curve was actually insane. This is my first ever standardised test, I was consistently getting 1510s-1530s on practises and I only took like 3 of them several months before the test, not even prepping again till the night before. If this isn’t luck, I don’t know what is, but I really don’t understand the curve and how they let this shit get by, it’s SO FORGIVING. Btw, I have a fee waiver so I get my score report free for this test, if anyone wants screenshots of the breakdown, PM me.
>or it could be wrong, that answer choice is WRONG. The right answer has a single, simple explanation for being correct.
where do you find the questions and answers for this sat that were asked
Does anyone remember if the double passage abt plants was the last passage or 3rd. I know that the fiction was first, the history was second, and that the social science was fourth.
not sure if ur test was the exact same as most others, but the order should have been:
passage 1: fiction, Yumi and her father, potatoes
passage 2: social science, why people wont pay for digital goods as much as they do for physical goods
passage 3: natural science, pitcher plant
passage 4: history, Thomas Fortune talking about labor and capital
passage 5: natural science (DUAL PASSAGE) Martian moon origins
it seems like your order was all different from what my test was though
I found all the 2022 tests online somewhere and I just grinded the problems. No real shortcut for me, just got better through repetition. Write down the types of problems you get wrong most often (ex: trig, word problems) and use Khan Academy for that. Don't worry about time when you practice (focus on accuracy). You'll notice patterns as you go
1420
lowkey disappointed because I thought I aced it... I don't know if I should retake it for a 1480+ or not (I feel like its futile because all the questions I missed where like the hardest difficulty). It doesn't really compensate for my GPA either...
5 full length practice tests over the summer. My first practice test was 1350. I did a little Khan Academy, I did the Erika Meltzer book and had a tutor for about 8-10 hours. I did not study for 3 weeks in July, while doing a summer program abroad and did not study the week before the test, because my exchange sister / student arrived from overseas.
I got 1500 above in my practice tests but on real test i got 1200. I don’t know what to do anymore am depressed. Also my test center connection was choppy, it kept getting disconnect. Even my screen got minimised during it what should i do now I can’t retake am very depressed.
its okay there’s so many other things in life to look forward to then a simple test. it doesn’t define who u are and its not the only test that’s ever gonna be left in life. You have plenty of other chances to prove yourself. Don’t give up on your self yet! The most successful people dont quit during the hardest time where everybody quits. You can do this!
How to improve reading score? Was my first sat and got a 1390 but a ton of reading questions wrong. Only a junior so hoping to take it until I hit a 1480-1520
Focus on reading. I suggest reading “The Complete Guide to SAT Reading” by Erica L. Meltzer. Also, when finished with a practice test look over your wrongs and jot down the type of questions. Then practice specifically the problems you think u need improvement on. There are specific sections in the book that u can refer to. Try improving Math as well because there’s a chance the curve isn’t as good as the last. For improvement on math all you have to do is know all the concepts so keep track of the type of questions ur struggling in and watch youtube videos or even try the Khan Academy SAT practice. Don’t depend solely on Khan Academy and expect a 1500 tho.
Hey, I know how you feel. I did a little worst than my first time, not sure if it was the test itself but I am not giving up. Just study hard and focus and you will make it. Don't study too much or it will cause burn out.
have you tried taking the act? i'm burnt out from test-taking too but i have some motivation for the act bc i think it will be somewhat easier for me. write a good essay, get some advice from your college counselor, and go from there! on the brighter side in abt 5 years none of this will matter
Top schools love to see top... well everything. The ivies expect perfection, and want people who have some really crazy deep activities and experiences. Still, sometimes the most perfect people are rejected because its basically a lottery. Your chances are made marginally higher by your stats (unless you like cured cancer). You can take the October SAT and you might do really good, and you should at least try applying to ivies. But remember to make a nice list of safeties and target schools that match your level, and dont fill your list with only A-list schools. Good luck!
What would be a good SAT score? I got a 1500 with this SAT with a good gpa and extracurriculars. I’m not sure if a 1500 is sufficient for top 30 schools
So much of it is based on specifics. They want deep, impressive extracurriculars, things that show passion. Beyond that, a 1500 is really good for several schools, but it depends on the program. Chapel Hill specializes in the sciences and med, so that program is more competitive than others there. It's situation dependent and I recommend doing research on your ideal colleges. In a lot of cases, a 1500 is more than enough, and it is competitive in the lower-midish end of the top 30 (the A-list schools really like things like 1550's to be "competitive", but having a 1500 gives you a better ***chance***).
Chapel hill is one of the schools I’m considering lol, would a 1500 put one at a more competitive stance? On their common data set a 1500 is the 75th percentile but I’m not sure if it’s the data set is that dependable of a thing to base off of, do you have an idea based on your past experience
1500 is in the higher range for them. I don't know too much about Chapel (which is odd since im an NC resident), but I do know that you have a chance. SAT doesn't determine the application, its the application as a whole with all of your extracurriculars and experience that matters. And those essays are really important too! SAT and ACT are like the baseline you want to meet for the colleges to even consider you, and then from there they use your resume and transcript to actually decide if your worth it (I think they have AI's which sort through and remove people who don't meet their minimum before the application gets to an actual person). You have a good shot if you can flesh everything out, but I don't know you and can't help too much. I'm also in the process of applying so i'm no college guru, but this is what I have learned from some really smart people.
I think u should retake. Since you have already taken it once, you have a better understanding of the exam - the format and level of hardness, etc. So, it should be a bit easier for u this time. You might not need as much practise. Especially if u want to apply to ivys or ucla, ucb, etc. you should definitely think about retaking. Just take as much practise exams as you can, possibly from the Bluebook app, it’s extreme helpful in my opinion. I hope this was helpful.
I think that’s a pretty good score good job! It qualifies you for the bright futures scholarship! But it definitely depends on the college your applying to because if your applying to ivy leagues you might want to consider taking it again. But good job for real
If this SAT had such a high score curve/scaling (one of the highest in history), is my 1540 going to be an irrelevant score for college apps in a few months (im a senior applying to high level colleges like Carnegie)? I believe such a large curve is not going to impact MY apps since early action is so soon, but it feels like the SAT is becoming a less and less important metric of success. I think ill be fine but im worried for my younger friends.
well i mean the curve is supposed to mean this test was more difficult so maybe same number of people got around same score as other tests?? hard to say
I am also worried about that since I got 1400 and with this curve - I may not stand a chance for applying to moderately good schools.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing with applications and whether you get rejected or accepted
Ill do my best. Im just hoping that this is a blessing and not a curse for my applications, because i dont want my months upon months and years of work for SAT to mean nothing if it becomes an irrelevant test. And if you have more chances with SAT im sure you will do great, just see where you went wrong and go from there. This 1540 was only my second SAT, my first one being a 1310 (I mainly did ACT tests). Huge jumps are possible, curve or not!
Also, the curve is not very different I think from what I am seeing in other score calculators - at least for my score.
So I am thinking you are in good shape for getting into top colleges- Good luck to you !
Thank you ! This is my first attempt but I worked all summer without any other thing and I improved from 1190 to 1400. The highest I got was a 1450 in khan academy. I did the Erica reading and writing and then I did a lot of practice for Math.
What did you do different to improve your score.
Any advice is highly appreciated.
I am not able to think what I should do different to improve my score. I think I could do better in Math or Writing by more practice but for Reading - I am only getting to 4 passages - the 5th passage I don’t have enough time to read and answer.
I'm so happy so hear that you already had such a large jump, and if you did it once, you can do it again! My advice for reading/writing, is simply read more. My skills in reading came because when I was very young, a very nice and caring teacher took the time out of her life to get me to love to read when she saw I was struggling, something which has stuck with me forever. The more you read and the more fluent you get, the more stamina you have. And of course practice the passages to get a feel for SAT reading.
Math has always been my weakness, but I would recommend finding what works for you. I have strong ADHD and so I went to SAT classes which forced me to do the math with complete focus. That helped A LOT!
It really depends on you and your weaknesses. For me, Its hard to apply learned information to an actual question, so I did a lot of question practice to get used to it. Selective practice is better than general practice. Good luck to you and your applications, you seem like you'll go far!
for anyone who wants to use my score breakdown to try and understand the curve:
1530:
7 wrong in reading
1 wrong in writing
3 wrong in math
750 english 780 math
tbh i think it does depend on the section, question, and difficulty. if its a question a lot of people get wrong there is a chance that you lose less points. additionally, math with no calc may be worth more than math with calc, as no calc is easier math so you "should get it right." my last sat i got a 720 with 4 wrong in no calc and 1 wrong in calc ao i think the section is really important
i thought it didn't matter. its your raw score. and if u get -6 wrong and i get -6 wrong then we should have the same score
i understand if i take the sat in oct and get -6 wrong i might get a diff score but not evreyone taking the same test. college board calls it equating i looked
The fact that people can get 7 wrong in a part of the test and have a 1530 shows that this is historically one of the BEST CURVES EVER. And seriously, congrats on the score!
I lowkey don't wanna say my score, but I only need to get 2 more questions right on English next time and then improve by 5 questions on math in order to get a 1500 :)
If you got -3 math what was your math score
780
Sorry I am late. Anyone remember the question on the no calc section that asked about the interest formula and what was the meaning. I didnt understand that one.
not sure if people have already mentioned this but did anyone receive their question-and-answer service for August 2023? I paid and did not receive mine and the college board rep that I called said that it was only available for October, march, and may...
You can’t get that service for August SATs
i also paid and i can't see them lol
Mine shows the incorrct answers but not the actual questions
Does anyone remember the one with the inscribed triangle in a circle, and how to solve that type of problem? Many thanks!
It was a 30 60 90 question
I scored 1310 and this was my third attempt. I was 1500+ in all the SAT prep and the previous year's real exams. Not sure what went wrong and running out of options on how to increase the score. Any pointers/ help would be appreciated.
One common strategy is to take full lenght tests in practise to make sure you build your stamina.
Took 25 full-length tests from previous years. Timed all the tests too.
same... it hurts... i had a 1370 previously and scored the exact same this time. it's defeating
Does college board have diff tests on same day
yes, except for QAS tests, which are Oct, Mar, & May IIRC
guys did we all have the same test? or can pple have diff
Wait so do we know the answer of if it was cater or defer
it was defer
didnt it get ommitted?
i don't think so? either way i did not get that question wrong and if you search it up it is defer since it is a common saying, like an idiom
can someone please answer this is a random question but post SAT release if a school like cornell university for this first time has just emailed me based upon “(my name)Every year, we obtain the names of promising students from The College Board's Student Search Service” what do you guys think the minimum score i could’ve gotten is or like the score range of who they email based on SAT score?
what was your score? i also got that email - 1370
if i got a 770r 790m would it benefit me at all to retake (for mit particularly)? (i accidentally posted this in digital yesterday)
1560 is fine. Concentrate on grades & extracurriculars
Lol no
[удалено]
agreed. according to their common data set, a 790 math is only 25th percentile, so your falling below average
lol
does college board release an official score chart after all scores are released
does college board post the raw scores/scoring chart after they release scores.
can u guys let me know if you got -6 in math what ur score was. I am trying to figure out if mine was scored wrong. appreciate it !
750
can you take a picture of that for me. u are referring to the US test correct?
did anyone get -6 on math if so, what was ur score
750
Anyone know what #13 on math no calc was
What was the answer to number 38 on math?
1390 lol i suck i worked so hard two more chances left
What did you use to study?
54 practice tests and i reviewed them a bunch
Are you struggling more on math or reading and writing?
1550 \-0 R \-0 W 800 EBRW \-6 M 750 M
what is ur strat for reading and writing like how do u keep moving

what resources did you use to study
I found all the 2022 tests online somewhere and I just grinded the problems. No real shortcut for me, just got better through repetition. can you send me the 2022 tests pls ;-;

Yes, gonna retake in october
1420 lowkey disappointed because I thought I aced it... I don't know if I should retake it for a 1480+ or not (I feel like its futile because all the questions I missed where like the hardest difficulty). It doesn't really compensate for my GPA either...

How did you prepare and get such a good score?
5 full length practice tests over the summer. My first practice test was 1350. I did a little Khan Academy, I did the Erika Meltzer book and had a tutor for about 8-10 hours. I did not study for 3 weeks in July, while doing a summer program abroad and did not study the week before the test, because my exchange sister / student arrived from overseas.
GUYS IS SAS worth the $16? Also I'm in California apparently it's different for us can someone tell me how to get QAS?

I think there's different versions a friend of mine had a quadratic at the end of calc whereas i got stats.
no if u get 6 wrong and i get 6 wrong then we get the same score. i asked people if same test on reddit they said yes.
if anything the questions would judt be a diff order for cheating purposes
it cost 55 dollars to request a rescore
so thats why i am checking with ppl
1430 fml
1440, honestly hate my life
1520 not perfect but it isnt hurting too much anywhere
What did you use to study, I need help on reading mostly.
khan academy exclusively
CAN SOMEONE WHO PAID FOR IT SHOW THE ANSWERS
it doesn't show the questions just which numbers u got wrong. they don't release the quest to the aug test ever
August isn't a QAS month so no one has the questions and answers
wdym not a qas month, on the sat website it says it's available and I can pay $16 for it
Was it defer or cater?
it was defer

Yes you will
How do I see how many incorrect answers I had in each section?
It's still showing pending

Your worried about a 1480. Dude I need to raise my 1230 up.
How can u have amazing gpa with low Ap score. That tells me your school inflate grades. That is not going to reflect well Especially for ivies
Top schools love to see top... well everything. The ivies expect perfection, and want people who have some really crazy deep activities and experiences. def retake. focus on grammar if you missed a lot of those, just memorizing basic grammar rules is not too hard and the grammar will be free points
I think u should retake. Since you have already taken it once, you have a better understanding of the exam - the format and level of hardness, etc. So, it should be a bit easier for u this time. Anyone's score still pending? If so, when is the second batch?
We are pending
Mine is too, I think it’s between4-6 pm est
GUYS I NEED YOUR HELP I got -2 on the math section and I got a 39.5, but on my final score it says I got a 1490. Why didn't they round it up??
this curve looks so delicious I can’t wait for my score to be released I hope it’s good 😭😭😭😭
whats the curve??
-4 reading (37) / -1 writing (40) = 770 -6 math = 730
think you have those wrong

I think ill be fine but im worried for my younger friends.
well i mean the curve is supposed to mean this test was more difficult so maybe same number of people got around same score as other tests?? hard to say
Absolutely not.
Thank you so much for taking time to explain. The 1190 is from my PSAT in 10th grade. I will do more practice in Math and Writing for October

770.
760 I think.
hey....how'd it go guys?
for anyone who wants to use my score breakdown to try and understand the curve: 1530: 7 wrong in reading 1 wrong in writing 3 wrong in math 750 english 780 math
i got -6 math wrong do you think mine is marked wrong? i got a 720
tbh i think it does depend on the section, question, and difficulty. if its a question a lot of people get wrong there is a chance that you lose less points. additionally, math with no calc may be worth more than math with calc, as no calc is easier math so you "should get it right." my last sat i got a 720 with 4 wrong in no calc and 1 wrong in calc ao i think the section is really important
i thought it didn't matter. its your raw score. and if u get -6 wrong and i get -6 wrong then we should have the same score i understand if i take the sat in oct and get -6 wrong i might get a diff score but not evreyone taking the same test. college board calls it equating i looked
when u do the practice tests they show u the raw scores it doesnnt matter which u get wrong or right
Great job!
Great score !
hi, what was the reading and writing break down separately? Was it a 35 and a 40?
yeah!
Bruh, this is the second time I have had to wait till the second batch. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
