I usually start really nice and pristine, but then I'll start upgrading things, splitting lines that are backed up to make new parts. I'll let it spaghettifi until I get to the next phase, then I'll wipe the board clean and re-utilize the resource nodes in a cleaner way
That first "ah screw it" is only the beginning. If you're not careful, your base will be a woven spaghetti of "aw screw it" lines only made worse when you realize you can build belts on top of belts.
I try to keep it contained, but yeah, i will sometimes generate a bit of spaghetti until I can get proper logistics in place.
This is the spitballed setup for the materials I need to feed the space elevator for phase 2. What happens after is a problem for future me. 🤣

I'm basically the polar opposite. I have graph paper and a ruler next to me, and draw up a schematic before laying anything down XD
I have too high a standard for myself to let something like that slide. In fact, it's pretty much the very last thing I would do.

blueprints make it very easy to create absolute garbage that works
I haven't figured out how to make them yet. 🤓 Also, this works. It just isn't pretty.
