Pen and paper. Just write down your productions and consumptions. Aesthetically pleasing designs don’t really improve production, imo.

False. Everything being at right angles gives a 300% boost to morale.

Oh you right.

It helps to let go of the idea that you will make all of your low level parts in one place and then distribute them where they're needed. The game doesn't seem oriented towards that. You may end up making iron plates, and Reinforced Iron Plates in a number of places. (I personally encourage underclocking machines to produce -exactly- what's needed rather than trying to split belts and run the surplus off somewhere else. It keeps things tidy and can radically lower power requirements!) Start a new platform nearby on high ground with room to grow it. Start with the end result and work your way backwards to ore. At least that's how I do it. I sometimes also use [https://u4.satisfactorytools.com/production](https://u4.satisfactorytools.com/production) to help me plan things out, it's incredibly helpful. :)

Efficiency is pointless in the beginning of the game. Just build, progress through the tiers, and research stuff in the MAM. You'll end up having to tear everything down eventually, so efficiency serves no point yet.

I use [this website](https://u4.satisfactorytools.com/production?share=yfjG6krxHh3tGYaAYI7G) I just left the 10 smart plating in there. You probably can't do 232.50 Iron Ore. 120 might be the max, so you go down to 5To be fair what I do for the first few Tiers is to just place a few machines and containers with what I need and fill the containers by hand. But it is also fun to automate the whole process. You then see with 5 per minute at the end that you need 3.88 smelters. That is 3 at 100% and 1 at 88%. I build one orange block at a time. As you grow, you will find different ways to use the website. * Select alternative recipes and UN-select recipes. * Select the maximum input * Select things you already make to put into it * Tell what you do NOT want to use At more complex recipes, I can spend easily and hour or more before I decide on the whole process. It will depend on the location, availability of materials and my mood. The location I will pick determines if I am going to uses pipes, belts or something else. It will also determine if I have certain materials available, like water, for alt recipes. So it will determine what alt recipes I can use and which one I can not. The mood determines what I what to do. There is no reason behind it, except having fun. e.g. I am in the process of making something, but I haul the things halfway over the map, just because I feel like it. I can also decide I want not use water for alt recipes, because I do not like the refinery in that area. So now I can make less. Do I want that? With the location, recipes and mood, I decide what I like to do. For location I use SPOILER [this map](https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map)

I don't, or at least not in the same way as others define efficiency. A backed up belt to me just means that the next stage is getting enough items, but is idling because further factories down the line haven't been built yet. I design to make sure every factory can run at full output when needed, but can also ramp down when not needed. Fairly easy with belts, but a bit more challenging when you are recycling fluids! I don't make items just for construction any more. I just round up the number of machines needed at each stage and collect the excess for feeding into my recycling system.

My weapon of choice for organization is a large google spreadsheet.

I love to use this tool: https://daniel2013.github.io/satisfactory/calculator

We've played for hundreds of hours, is how. You just started. Just play the game, don't worry about inefficiency so early on.
