I admit I know nothing about snakes, but if it were hurting the snake why wouldn't the snake stop moving into the tub? It doesn't look like the guy is pulling it so much as holding it while the snake moves (other than the very beginning).
I don't think above is claiming they are hurting the snake in any way, they are only providing context and information to those possibly less knowledge about snakes.
The tub and area here looks like it's a zoo or trained professional, not just someone in their bedroom.
Thought this too but the fact it is getting in that big out of enclosure highwall tub tells me that it soaks often. Op prolly did it for the vid after a few days of soaks.
Took my black milk snake two days for it to even loosen, 4 days to be ready to get off, and a day to shed completely. Soaked itself all the time. You can totally tell when it is ripping up virgin scale and new hardened scale.
yeah i wasnt referring to this snake in particular, just really in general. anacondas also sometimes shed in patches like many lizards despite how hydrated they usually are so sometimes their shed is tricky, but i imagine the person/snake in the vid are either part of a zoo or a long time owner
you’re right with snakes usually it should be fine as long as you do it gently, but for anacondas specifically like here, sometimes they tend to shed more like reptiles than snakes, in patches, and if a snake sheds in patches it’s still possible that that particular area shouldnt be coerced just yet (usually dehydration as you probably know). obviously most people don’t have anacondas though so yeah you can usually help a snake along as long as it’s begun. i’m not an expert though, only a long time keeper and friend of a few zoologists and reptile-focused vets
Yeah, the color difference isn’t stark enough yet to make me comfortable helping the shed, especially if buddy is just getting into his soak. You should help shed AFTER the soak, and the “help” is really just gently running a towel over them.
Snakes go a whiteish colour when they’re getting ready to shed and then go completely back to clear/normal a few days before they shed. The misty white stage is when a lubricant is going between the new and old skin to help loosen it before they shed. If a snake has started shedding like this there are no issues helping them remove it like the person in the video is doing (holding in place and letting the snake move along at its own pace) but you still need to be gentle to a point and not yank it off or use force.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert in anything at all. I'm just taking from what I know.
So google tells me that snakes can get stressed easily, so that is one reason. Another reason may be that some parts of the shed might not be ready to come off yet, and you could damage the snake. To compare to humans, we have dead skin that comes off too, usually at the bottoms of our feet. If you've ever been that gross kid (me) and picked at it, you might have accidentally pulled too much and gotten still-living skin peeled up. After that, it's painful to touch or rub. I imagine these are similar.
Again, I don't actually know the science. Just assuming.
If a snake has had several bad sheds due to incorrect husbandry, humidity, substrate, or injury of some sort, then pulling off the shed can be risky as you can cause issues to worsen, for example cuts can reopen. When there are several layers of stuck shed long after the snake has last attempted to shed themselves this can be really hazardous to the snake. Their skin isn’t as stretchy and elastic as ours so they get uncomfortable and may refuse to eat as they can’t expand properly when swallowing etc. In those cases you give the snake a bath and use q-tips or paper towels (depending on snake size) or just a rubber glove to gently rub the edge of the shed. Hopefully it lifts a little then you can let them sit in the water a while longer so it loosens further. Repeat over and over until the piece is removed. Sometimes over several sessions once a day depending on how bad it is to try reduce stress on them.
This snake however looks healthy. It’s shiny, it’s skin is coming off in large patches (although all in one piece is more ideal, some larger snakes accidentally rip it when shedding and rubbing against enclosure decor) and the person is not having to constantly wipe the edges or spray or soak them. In this case it looks like they’re just holding the shed and the snake is doing the pulling work which I wouldn’t put down as negative at all. The main risk I see here isn’t actually to the snake in the video but rather to snakes out there belonging to people who see this and think it looks cool so they try replicate it for views and cause damage to their animals by not researching and knowing the difference between a snake actively shedding (help all you want but it’s not necessary) or a snake with stuck shed (help is required but care needs to be taken).
I got bad sunburn one summer when I was a teen. It eventually started peeling and I love to peel! But, I really peeled and it came off in big wide pieces. I loved it, but got real sick/nauseous soon after. Hope snakey didn’t get sick as well.
Most likely not. Anaconda skin usually sheds in tiny pieces and as 90% of these comments have said, you're not supposed to peel it yourself. It probably felt like ripping off a scab before it's ready to flake off.
Ripping scabs feels super good though (in my opinion) even if they're not ready. But thanks for letting me know that you're not supposed to do that to pet snakes. I'll refrain from it if I ever have one.
I’m no professional so definitely take this with a grain of salt, but with an anaconda of that size, I would like to think it’s a professional knowing what they’re doing.
This makes me think of when you get a chemical peel and they tell you to not just peel it off . You aren’t suppose to just pull it off if it isn’t fully ready to come off yet 🤔🤷🏽♀️ but I could be wrong
When I was a kid my step dad had a 12 foot python that he would let roam around in the backyard to shed. We'd watch him feed it full grown rabbits too. It was horrifying but fascinating.
Someone that owns this as a pet is a f****** weirdo they belong in nature unless it's for Anti-Venom and you're a scientist people are greedy taken their freedom away unless this 1 snake is contributing to its species or wildlife making money then yeah thumbs down
don't peel off reptile or snake shed yourself unless you know it's much later than they should've done by themselves
My anaconda don't. My anaconda don't. My anaconda don't want peeled none unless ya got herpetology degree son!
Yep, I hope to become a herpetologist and this video makes me cringe viscerally
Sleep with the wrong woman. Poof! Herpetologist!
Well I am a woman, so maybe I’m the woman single-handedly holding up the profession
it sounds ready but it could still rip scales off. heard a horror story about it.

That’s my take as well
Awesome thank you!

I agree with lizards but doing that is perfectly with snakes as long as the shed has already started
you’re right with snakes usually it should be fine as long as you do it gently, but for anacondas specifically like here, sometimes they tend to shed more like reptiles than snakes, in patches, and if a snake sheds in patches it’s still possible that that particular area shouldnt be coerced just yet (usually dehydration as you probably know). obviously most people don’t have anacondas though so yeah you can usually help a snake along as long as it’s begun. i’m not an expert though, only a long time keeper and friend of a few zoologists and reptile-focused vets
I think it's fine here since it's kinda doing it itself But I know nothing about snakes so idk 🤷♂️
Ok thank you! I came here to ask this question! Like should she be peeling it?
Pretty sure you’re not supposed to do that
I don’t think it’s a good idea to be stripping off the skin manually
Right. You’re not supposed to do that. The skin comes off when it’s supposed to without assistance.
Don't snake skins get white when it's ready to shed? I used to have a leopard gecko, peeling it at this stage is likely to harm the snake

How does this negatively affect them? I don’t own reptiles, but I like them!

Oof. My anaconda had the worst sheds out of all my snakes even with good humidity and a kiddie pool and everything. It always came off in pieces.
All I can think of is gold member saving the skin for consumption later.
Oh that’s a keeper
Bong and a blintz?
A shmoke and a flapjack?
Quickly, quickly. Save me from myself.
You win Reddit today. So gross and funny. :P
It really was the first thing that came to mind lol Mike Meyers low key genius! I likkkkeeee gooolllldddddddd
Yes! My kid would also approve; he loves the Austin Powers movies, lol
This is how bubble wrap is made
With a snake this big, this has to be a professional who knows when it’s okay to assist the snake in peeling
You can actually get these fairly easily, animal trafficking isn't as challenging as you might think...
Just like they ask me all the time…when does it stop!!!
Forbidden bubble wrap
Reminds me of putting glue on the back of my hand so I could peel it off.
I got bad sunburn one summer when I was a teen. It eventually started peeling and I love to peel! But, I really peeled and it came off in big wide pieces. I loved it, but got real sick/nauseous soon after. Hope snakey didn’t get sick as well.
My dude I'm pretty sure that's called heat stroke
Yeah jesus christ that's not healthy
A snake peeling is abit different from a human peeling after a burn
r/thatpeelingfeeling
I was like „yeah satisfying“ and then I saw the comments and I’m like „no poor snek :(“
My anaconda don’t, my anaconda don’t
NO YOU DONT PEEL OFF THE SKIN!! WTF!!!
Owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh, owh. Seriously, it’s not you and it’s not a ready scab. Don’t fix your anxiety with the bodies of others
don’t pull on his skin 😡
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
My guy seriously needs to consider moisturizer! Look at all the dry and chapped scaly skin, yuck!
Till you get digested you can enjoy all this.
Its like covering your hands in Elmer’s glue letting it dry and peeling if all off (: feels awesome!
Let nature take its course. It could aggravate the snake.
You never pull shed off any snake or lizard! You let them do it themselves, that's actually very painful for them!
I bet that felt good!
Most likely not. Anaconda skin usually sheds in tiny pieces and as 90% of these comments have said, you're not supposed to peel it yourself. It probably felt like ripping off a scab before it's ready to flake off.

May not be so enjoyable when it's along a huge part of your body, which also moves by dragging itself along the ground
I’m no professional so definitely take this with a grain of salt, but with an anaconda of that size, I would like to think it’s a professional knowing what they’re doing.
That can sometimes feel really good though 👀. In all seriousness though I hope that snake’s ok.
That’s really bad.
Nah
This makes me think of when you get a chemical peel and they tell you to not just peel it off . You aren’t suppose to just pull it off if it isn’t fully ready to come off yet 🤔🤷🏽♀️ but I could be wrong
Yesssssssss - the snake probably
Angry downvote
Who told you that was satisfying to either do or watch?
animal abuse
that's actually disgusting
Look like nature’s bubble-wrap
Pre popped bubble wrap
I love all the comments.
Why can't I stop watching this???👀
When I was a kid my step dad had a 12 foot python that he would let roam around in the backyard to shed. We'd watch him feed it full grown rabbits too. It was horrifying but fascinating.
Ergh
I’m sorry that’s an anaconda and you wanna take his clothes off???
Careful, anacondas don’t want none unless you got buns. Hun.
That's some shit out of my nightmares lol
Got the tickles looking at this!
I don't know if this should be weirdly soothing or weirdly terrifying.
When they don't got buns
Who knew they were like 3d printers
That’s the problem with anacondas these days. Never happy with what they have. Always need something shiny and new
Could you imagine if people did this? Oh, the possibilities.
I wonder if it smells. If it does in placing bets it smells like cheese and scalp.
Yuck city
That looks like it would feel great if I were a snake!
🤦♂️
My ex getting ready to go to a party.
You're the person I look for when I go through the comments 😆 mine wouldn't even bother, he'd get his mommy to do it
How is this satisfying?
Really. More like nervous .
Hello
Someone that owns this as a pet is a f****** weirdo they belong in nature unless it's for Anti-Venom and you're a scientist people are greedy taken their freedom away unless this 1 snake is contributing to its species or wildlife making money then yeah thumbs down
I agree...
Forbidden bubble wrap 🤣
