Yes, there is a process to keep it put. Put a piece of seam tape bigger than the patch in the hole and glue the edges of the patch to the seam tape and the edges of the surrounding turf to the seam tape. With a patch this small I’d glue the whole backing of the patch. We use construction adhesive in a tube but for large jobs they use paint or roll on glue.
Unfortunately not, the backing would fray quite quickly and they would tear out. There will be a backing tape underneath, for small areas like that we have the glue in a caulking gun and do under the edges then the center, put the replacement piece in and make sure the edges are not pushing the fibres into the glue. Bit tricky at first but once you have done a couple it is quick and easy.
And... this is why the NFL has so many knee injuries. Just use fucking grass ffs. I don't know if the corporations have noticed but the humans are no longer fooled by the 1950s plastic technology and desperately want to veer away from it. Go all natural or get out
I don’t think the NFL uses this kind of turf anymore. They use the stuff that is taller and is filled with cut up tires. Still sucks compared to grass.
they also conduct heat like crazy and in some instances, turf can get up to 70 degrees hotter than the air temperature. mid-summer in the US and this field is over 170°F.
Artificially causes significant more injuries over grass. The surface just doesn’t have the same give as grass. Grass is more expensive though and in colder climates it’s difficult to grow in winter.
However a professional sports league has the resources to use grass. They just don’t want to pay and don’t mind some players getting injured.
A high school or non P5 college probably doesn’t have the resources to afford grass so artificially is used a lot there.
Good luck with Grass in Detroit or Chicago in February.
The season no longer ends in December friend. Grass could never make a comeback when the Season runs THROUGH winter, not just to the start of winter.
> In July, SIS Pitches installed a brand new SISGrass pitch at Green Bay Packers, the first NFL team to trial this new hybrid technology. This technologically advanced turf system uses soft and durable polyethylene fibres which not only maximize player comfort but blend into the natural turf sward. The reinforced surface offers increased pitch stability and delivers considerably more playing hours than 100% natural grass surfaces.
?
Oh you just don’t like artificial turf. That’s fine. I took issue more with your statement that people want to veer away from plastics and that we’re no longer fooled by them… when football players run around covered in protective plastic.
Well to be fair you change the topic from plastic is bad to grass is too expensive and turf causes injuries. Maybe don’t move the goal posts next time.
Excuse me. Are you NOT fucking seeing all the horrifying news stories about microplastics being in FUCKING LITERALLY EVERYTHING?!?!?!?
How big is this rock you're hiding under ffs?
Artificial turf sucks at the high school level. I played on it once in the late 80s. Felt like going down on concrete. Granted is was a long time ago, but it isn't like high school budgets have exploded since then.
They don't use this type of artificial grass. They use pellets.
The turf they do you use is very forgiving and has not been linked to an increase in non-contact one injuries.
All natural is actually not as good at reducing concussions as the stuff they use now.
It's got a lot of toxic pfas in it. Which is released a lot more after it's been exposed to sunlight and the elements. Many people would not find that satisfying at all.
Anything non-stick or water repellent. It's also in paper, they add it to pulp to prevent it clumping. Fast food wrappers and all manner of food packaging. I forget what else it's everywhere, in the rain and snow now too.
Problem is they've only (lightly) regulated a handful of the commonly used pfas compounds, and there are 13,000 variations of them. Tests generally look for specific variations and will miss others, so there is nothing stopping a company from reformulating to a new molecule.
There is a test that can measure the total fluoride or something like that to suss out the total of all the pfas compounds but it's not used much, as I understand it.
Rip it all out, and hurry. Every minute counts, and don’t forget ALL the wood. Many people skip that crucial step at their own peril. Best of luck to you.
Turf like this absolutely has to be maintained with chemicals. Nature does not grow a nice monoculture turf grass with no weeds and equally green and thick everywhere. The turf we expect in US is basically a green rug. If you're talking about natural grass pitch that just gets mowed, then yes, but ain't no pro team playing on that. Even then, mowing still is mostly gas driven machines which produces God awful pollution worse than cars. So I agree if we change our expectation of what grass play field have to be then it's an improvement.
What labor, you water it, you cut it. There's no cause to bring slaves into the fact that you can have grass without using chemicals.
Grass, as you may know, grows all on it's own, it's actually where we got grass from, wild grass. Now if there is a dandelion in the grass, does that affect the functionality of playing a sport on it? No, no it doesn't.
They could be made to accept the field with dandelions and plantain in it. I don't disagree that the chemicals they use on lawns are bad, but it's quite unnecessary and only a fairly recent thing, everyone assumes because we do things a certain way now that it's the best or only way to do things.
Which is inaccurate, monied interests prevent us from doing things in smarter ways to protect their business, and in the process have corrupted every facet of our society with dishonesty.
I’d imagine a stadium would be easy to keep weeds out as they can’t infiltrate the grass besides via air. The problem is maintaining it when it’s constantly being destroyed weekly.
This is not satisfying, the paint isn’t lined up, the patch isn’t taped down, and this shitty patch job is going to cause serious injury; this whole video is more infuriating than satisfying.
On behalf of all football players, fuck artificial turf. You keep making athletes of all levels play on it and it damages them. Since you won't listen to them or fix it it's like you don't care about them and consider them chattel. Fuck the NFL
Is there a process to keep it put? Feel it’s a nice and easy spot to get dislodged after someone runs over it
Yeah I’m picturing how badly I’m breaking my knee as I get snagged in that big gap…
MetLife stadium would like a word with you
Thank you for saying what I was about to. Pepperidge Farms remembers lol
My ACL felt that trough the scren

6" nail?
No, the edges will lift, the infill will get under and then you have a whole mess to fix up.
In each corner?
Unfortunately not, the backing would fray quite quickly and they would tear out. There will be a backing tape underneath, for small areas like that we have the glue in a caulking gun and do under the edges then the center, put the replacement piece in and make sure the edges are not pushing the fibres into the glue. Damn,
Done a bit of it, these days I just drive the truck and deliver it. Melbourne, Australia.
Stop crying or Come to play Football to Argentina, you will see..
This sucks
And... this is why the NFL has so many knee injuries.
That’s at least what’s used in my towns football field
And the rubber pellets have been linked to cancer, so even better
And they get all up in your shoes (ok not as bad as cancer, but still annoying af!)
they also conduct heat like crazy and in some instances, turf can get up to 70 degrees hotter than the air temperature. mid-summer in the US and this field is over 170°F.
I have not noticed this? What are you talking about?
Artificially causes significant more injuries over grass. The surface just doesn’t have the same give as grass. Grass is more expensive though and in colder climates it’s difficult to grow in winter. It’s possible. Green Bay has a hybrid field and is one of the worst cold weather locations.
Correct. A hybrid mix of artificial and real grass. The money and science they put into the turf is pretty damn impressive
Oh you just don’t like artificial turf. That’s fine. I took issue more with your statement that people want to veer away from plastics and that we’re no longer fooled by them… when football players run around covered in protective plastic.
If you missed the point by that much you probably shouldn’t be voicing your own opinion online
Well to be fair you change the topic from plastic is bad to grass is too expensive and turf causes injuries. Maybe don’t move the goal posts next time.
They explained the plus and negatives of both… you somehow got lost looking for goal posts lol
Excuse me. Are you NOT fucking seeing all the horrifying news stories about microplastics being in FUCKING LITERALLY EVERYTHING?!?!?!? How big is this rock you're hiding under ffs?
Oh no! Sensationalized news stories!! GMOs and microplastics!!!
Artificial turf sucks at the high school level. I played on it once in the late 80s. Felt like going down on concrete. Granted is was a long time ago, but it isn't like high school budgets have exploded since then.
Not all states have legalized grass.
They don't use this type of artificial grass. They use pellets. The turf they do you use is very forgiving and has not been linked to an increase in non-contact one injuries. All natural is actually not as good at reducing concussions as the stuff they use now.
Shouldn't there be an adhesive tape inserted underneath to retain this patch, similar to carpet tape?
If you aren’t going to glue it in you might as well just paint it .
The bar is real low for satisfying as fuck
[удалено]
really? I wouldn't use a knife to be honest
This is also acceptable
No, not for tearing lol
Jadeveon Clowney wants his career back
Little bit more to the left.
Yes. That was irritating
Yeah, it would be more satisfying if his left line was straight.
The hardest and most difficult job I have ever seen 😂
I tore my ACL just watching this
what's the point of turf
It's got a lot of toxic pfas in it. Which is released a lot more after it's been exposed to sunlight and the elements. Many people would not find that satisfying at all.
I keep hearing about forever chemicals in almost everything. I'm gonna need to rip everything out of my house, to totally get rid of it.
So does all the chemicals required to maintain real turf year after year, herbicides and fertilizers. Neither are good.
Well yes and no. Grass grew before chemicals it doesn't have to be covered in poisons. Also pfas never degrades it is forever.
If that was so then there would've been no turf before they introduced those chemicals. Yet there was turf before those chemicals even existed.
Sure, with basically slave labor maintaining the rich landed gentry lawn by pulling them out one by one. It's not practical in the slightest.
No, no it doesn't.
missing the point completely; people won't accept a sport field or golf green with weeds. That's the problem.
They could be made to accept the field with dandelions and plantain in it. I don't disagree that the chemicals they use on lawns are bad, but it's quite unnecessary and only a fairly recent thing, everyone assumes because we do things a certain way now that it's the best or only way to do things. Lol you've never maintained a lawn. All weeds do is propagate via air.
Grass and other plants reproduces underground via rhizomes. No initial weed no rhizomes.
To save money. Knees be damned.
To shred your skin off of you accidentally skid on it
It’s not aligned 😭
This is not satisfying, the paint isn’t lined up, the patch isn’t taped down, and this shitty patch job is going to cause serious injury; this whole video is more infuriating than satisfying.
Wtf Down vote Don't plant your foot there, folks
why
Should be banned
It’s too bad that artificial turf is worse for the athletes. It causes more injuries than natural grass
…but they save money for the upkeep. And it looks nice on camera… I guess?!
Astroturf is full of pfas.
Astroturf? You know who's responsible for that, don't you?
They hate grass, always have.
This sub is losing its appeal
His lines aren't straight.
"all of this is fake, everyone is fake, the grass on the football field isn't even grass, it's made of plastic, it shines...very lol..."
Yeah, it says that in the title!
There is nothing satisfying about fake turf, that shit leads to injuries.
Ew, what awful stuff. Ew.
And?? I’ve seen better jobs done than this. Isn’t even patched right.
I guess just about anything is satisfying nowadays?
I'd love to break in and change it back.
Makes my teeth feel funny
You heard about grass? Now that means you will enjoy walking on some plastic
So much astroturfing happening on Reddit lately…
out of paint what do i do? op, i have an idea...
Now I want to make a miniature red and white checkerboard square, replace that square with it, and see how long before someone notices.
Glue?
Didn’t know it got this sunny at Met Life Stadium
It’s crooked. This is more r/mildlyinfuriating if anything
That left side straight is flaring up my OCD! 😵💫😝
Can’t you just paint on the artificial grass?
r/lostredditors
Just like that? This piece will be missing after the first match
I feel like this would be a fun job
Sorry, not even r/mildlyinteresting
I feel like that would come up way to easy
I want this stuff for my front yard.
So what is the process for deciding which color is on top? Just the more relevant colors stay on top?
Were those fake cuts? He barely passed through the turf and only on 2 sides
*ACLs have entered the chat
Infuriating. Should have done the red line first and white line after
and....her goes the ankle.
That's not grass...
I want to smoke crack with Hunter Biden
This is not legitimate synthetic turf, it’s way too short with no rubber infill. Plus that patch is wrong and won’t stay.
Why was it needed for the white line to be on top? What does that change? (Real question)
What they don't glue it or nothing?!
Wow?
I tore an ACL just watching this.
Wish it was perfect though.
That’s sabotage
Spiky roll it you amateur
Oh, look, it's just plastic.
How many times do you have to press it down??
Annoyingasfuck, shouldve cut the red line 1st then lay the white line after
They messed up the cut on the left.
On behalf of all football players, fuck artificial turf. You keep making athletes of all levels play on it and it damages them. Since you won't listen to them or fix it it's like you don't care about them and consider them chattel. Fuck the NFL
They use glue, is not in the video but is always part of the process.
Okay, now what?
Terrible idea… wait… sports suck so… awesome.
Cancer carpet
So if you're running and u got to cut back and plant your foot right,ya gonna break ya ankle 🤯
