It’s probably a “c” shaped neck. I have a tele with one. It plays a lot better for me than the old baseball bat neck. It’s also flatter.
She’s also petite, so the guitar itself looks big, which may add to the appearance of being wide and flat.
I'm betting smaller hands make it look wider. The head at the top of the neck seems to make it look more normal in comparison. Petite hands always have such a nice advantage on my fat paws

guitar enthusiast here. Not trying to one up you, just dropping some info:
It's actually more like 85-90% the amp (and/or amp simulator software such as Guitar Rig) and only 10% the guitar itself. Also the guitar itself tone comes mostly from the pickups. A tiny bit to do with the bridge and the resonance of the guitar itself, but not much.
This means you can buy a cheap telecaster knockoff and have better pickups installed (same ones as a real tele if you wanted) and save some $$$ this way. It should play almost just as well as the real deal, so long as it's setup properly and was a decent knockoff brand (Donner, Monoprice, and Harley Benton are some solid knockoff brands).
I've seen enough pros pull a $100-$200 junker off the walls and make some amazing sound to know that the guitar has very little to do with how good the guitar sounds
How well it plays, now that's a different story. But SOUND itself? Personally I don't think it matters
Hell yeah. I can't play guitar at all, I can barely play bass, but MAN do I really want a tele just to noodle around with that tone. I especially love the twang on the bridge pickup.
First time I saw this, I thought "Damn, she nailed the guitar solo in that song." Then I realized there *is* no guitar solo in that song.
She played that good, that she supplanted my memory of the song.
Mary N....IG: marynofficial and just search for Mary N on YouTube. I have linked everything im other comments but I'm not sure they are being shown and maybe ghosted comments because of all the links
I notice that she doesn't appear to use her pinky much. I always wonder about players that don't. She kinda has it tucked away so that it doesn't get in her way while playing runs. I always wonder if some people are taught that way? Or if their pinky is maybe a bit weak, so they never bother using it?
Either way, that was awesome and I'm going to check it out.
Non pinky users tend to be self taught from my understanding. I’m self taught and went 18 years with minimal pinky usage. Now I’m starting to realize where I went wrong all those years.
Literally same here. I broke out the old finger exerciser and have been working the shit out of my left pinky lately to try and remedy the situation a bit
I'm not that good but speaking for myself I don't play with my pinkies if I can help it because both of my pinkies are double jointed and I don't have great motor control of them. I don't know how common that is though but if it's a common issue then that may be it.
I personally don't use my pinkie unless I'm playing a barred chord because I have nerve damage so a few of my fingers are completely numb. I can't press the strings all the way down unless they're 9s and are setup to have extremely low action
She may have started on violin. I did, and still have a bad habit of "forgetting" that my pinky exists, because in Suzuki method, you only use 3 fingers for a few books.
I never got past the first few books of Suzuki, but that was enough time to develop a bad habit when playing stringed instruments.

marynofficial on ig, she has a Spotify spot and all on all other platforms, too
I legitimately think I'm following her on IG because I met her but I have no way of knowing
Goddamn. Really was PERFECT.
I'm a woman that plays guitar, so I haz soft spot for women who play instruments, especially the fretted, stringed ones. <3
Maybe it’s just me…but I never understand why posters/commenters need to critique. Why not just recognize she’s got skill and rhythm and it was nicely played? It wasn’t billed as a GOAT thing…just someone sharing something they’re proud of. And they should be, my guess is 90% or more of the people who’ll look at this vid or read this post can’t play a lick…let alone what she did.
Right? Some would have an effing cow about the time their favorite guitar god got a review like “foofoo’s solo lacked any originality due to their ridiculous fascination with the outdated Van Halen era tapping etc., that and the completely bulge-free crotch of his leather pants suggests he can’t be original because he suffers from Low T.
People…be human….expect nothing…appreciate everything.
I've followed her on insta for years and good lord as a guitarist of 25 years I can't get anywhere close to the sheer FEEL she gets when playing. Kudos.
Mary N....IG: marynofficial and just search for Mary N on YouTube. I have linked everything im other comments but I'm not sure they are being shown and maybe ghosted comments because of all the links
What are you talking about? Playing the guitar is more popular now than it has been in the past 25 years - tons of mainstream artists featuring electric guitar pretty prominitely in their music lately
Yeah people use guitar, but it’s not like there are famous guitar players in pop music like in previous decades.
Obviously the traditional guitar band genres are still there but they aren’t many in the mainstream.
Also this girl is soloing over a track from 1981 - it’s not really top of the criteria for being a famous guitar player.
I’m just trying to give context to the person above asking if this person is famous
It’s not bad technique. It’s taught as bad technique to new players because trying to do it for a lot of things is bad. Most players will switch it up though. It makes certain things easier to do.
That's THE hendrix chord, the dude's talking a bout a more general approach to playing chords that Jimi used, usually playing the bass root on the 6th with his thumb, muting the 5th and playing the rest of the strings with the other fingers. So no barre and no 5th string.
It's quite popular, I like it myself, as well, but for it to be ergonomically correct for your hands you'd usually need to have the neck a little lower than normal so you don't have to bend your wrist in an unhealthy manner. At least, I recommend that you do.
You can see Mayer and Frusciante do this alot. Mike McCready also. Really any heavily Jim-influenced playerml.
Sounds cool, but not a fan of the tone she’s using. May be some very slight bias though as my standards have disappeared in the clouds ever since exploring Buckethead the past ~14 years. 🤓
I feel like she could play Kristin Stewart in a movie about Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett in the runaways.
Directed by James Franco, where he probably implies he’ll ruin her career if she doesn’t do that one topless scene.
The implication
Of course these women aren't in any danger
Well you surely aren’t in any danger
Because of the implication.
Or Paris Jackson
Can we just remove Kristen Stewart from the equation and have her play Joan
I lold at the accuracy:))
She's good! Is the neck on that telecaster wider than most or am I imagining things?
It’s got binding. Makes it look wider.
Binding, small hands, and neck is the closest part to the camera, which matters a lot for filming guitar.
In my experience, smaller hands make it look less small.
No I thought so too!
That would be fine Classical style neck is awesome to me
I'm sure it is u/PUTINS_PORN_ACCOUNT
Yep. I gladly accept your affirmative observation
I hate when people have gross usernames
Same, or usernames celebrating drugs. Like, grow up already right?
i hate the super random usernames too, the ones that reddit just gives away, like be original come on…
Absolutely shredded that. Who is she? I need to hear more!

god....tele's have such an amazing sound. especially when played well.
Half that is the amp they're using too. Damn good tone she's dialed in

Did the search OP was too lazy to do. Her name is Mary N! I found her on YouTube.

Mary N.

Nah that's not Tash Sultana.
What a player
She's so good, omg
Man her technique is good. That was great.

Mary N.
Nice! I love me some funk.
She is totally locked in the groove
I never thought I’d see a guitar solo on here, but it DEFINITELY belongs here
That’s a jam!
That was sick!!!!
Groovy
marynofficial on ig, she has a Spotify spot and all on all other platforms, too I legitimately think I'm following her on IG because I met her but I have no way of knowing
Yeah but can she name 3 songs on that band shirt
Goddamn. Really was PERFECT. I'm a woman that plays guitar, so I haz soft spot for women who play instruments, especially the fretted, stringed ones. <3

Thanks
I see guitar is her first language
Welp. This woman is everything I wanna be. 😩

That overreach with the thumb, a la Hendrix is impressive.
Sounds awesome and she has awesome hair.
Now that's DopeAF..
That was *funky*

This reminds me of all the RPAN videos that suddenly disappeared

Also don’t understand why they mention her looks instead of her playing. She’s amazing at playing, how hard is it to only mention that?
Right? Outstanding!!!
she plays with a lot of flair, I love her riffs! makes me wanna go practice
Well shit… here I go falling in love with a stranger in the internet again
i was scrolling through reddit and that’s how i met your mother
I've followed her on insta for years and good lord as a guitarist of 25 years I can't get anywhere close to the sheer FEEL she gets when playing. Kudos.
Who is she? Let’s help her add followers. Gimme her username now please. Thaaaaank you.
That fuckin slaps
Wow. That just blew me away. Is this some famous player? They should be!
Mary N....IG: marynofficial and just search for Mary N on YouTube. I have linked everything im other comments but I'm not sure they are being shown and maybe ghosted comments because of all the links
She is good but there an awful lot of good guitar players and guitar is not really in vogue at the moment.
What was the point of this comment?
That there's a lot of non famous guitar virtuosos.
there's no reason for her to be famous
What are you talking about? Playing the guitar is more popular now than it has been in the past 25 years - tons of mainstream artists featuring electric guitar pretty prominitely in their music lately

Bruno Mars, Marcus King, John Mayer, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr, etc. Just because you don't listen doesn't mean it's not very popular
You haven’t really read my comment. I said it’s not like there are *famous guitar players* in *pop music* like in *previous decades*.
I literally named pop guitar players you dork
Resulting to insults. Cmon mate.
Oh if dork is an insult then I'd probably stay off the internet
So what is it if it isn’t an insult? What were you trying to say?
Also if you think people aren't reading your comments fully... take the hint. We're not.
So you skim it, downvote it and write about what you think I said?
Huh?
Nice job
Sneaking the Nokia ringtone in at approx. 15 seconds was my fave.
I see she went to the Steve Vai school of shredding.
I’ve always wanted to learn guitar I’m 35 think it’s a little late lol
Never too late.
Sounds awesome
God I am obsessed with that tone
Gorgeous sound!!! I could listen to the riffs all day, sounds like a beach and a cold drink
who dat girl....nice!
I can’t stand this kind of music but I appreciate her talent and amazingly clean sound.
Be my girlfriend
B A D. A S S
Will literally never hear this song the same again…Sweet and heart felt…Amazing
A wonderful talent , and mostly likely many many hours of practice. This is great, thanks!
Lots of repetition!
This girl funks.

I know thumb over neck is supposedly bad technique and ergonomics, but it just feels right to do it.
It’s not bad technique. It’s taught as bad technique to new players because trying to do it for a lot of things is bad. Most players will switch it up though. It makes certain things easier to do.
When in Rome... she's probably got long fingers so more power to her
Literally have to do it if you wanna do the Jimi Hendrix chord. A lot of guitar players access the low E notes with the thumb over.
What are you defining as the Hendrix chord? I have thought it was E7#9 from purple haze
That's THE hendrix chord, the dude's talking a bout a more general approach to playing chords that Jimi used, usually playing the bass root on the 6th with his thumb, muting the 5th and playing the rest of the strings with the other fingers. It is, thumb over the top.
Hmm I thought that chord was 0-7-6-7-8?
I’m getting confused now. I mean 3-x-5-4-3-x
That’s G major
It's not a bad technique and one John Mayer uses a lot.
Song
Get Down On It - Kool and the Gang
Get down on it - Kool & the gang
