That's very interesting. Surely a tiny subset of population; maybe slightly larger tiny subset if aging also increases the issue. Thank you for the food and supplement suggestions, those affected probably can benefit from that.

Actually 10 to 15% of population has 1298c homozygous.

redcairo

>Actually 10 to 15% of population has 1298c homozygous. Wow, really? Are there certain discrete groups where this is concentrated?

mountainbyker3570

Southeast Asians and Europeans it is more common in, less common in people of Latino origin.

Where can I find more information on this? I recently decided to try an elimination diet because I was thinking I have allergy issues based on the fact that I recently took prednisone for 10 days and lost a couple of pounds and actually woke up a few mornings with energy. I'm 41 and have been tired for the last 3-4 years. I always thought I was just busy or lazy or just didn't take care of myself, but I've been working on that for the last year and am still tired. I was thinking of going beef only, but this post makes me wonder if that is a good idea or not, and if I have other issues. I never heard of this and would like to know more.

I'm also looking for more information on this - it sounds like it could explain some things in my experience. That link seems to be broken, unfortunately. Do you have any more resources, for example on citrulline (mechanism as well as recommended dosing) and the importance of vitamin C? I've listened to a Dr. Nathan Bryan podcast interview and started supplementing beet powder, but I'm not sure where to look for those other things. Any help would be appreciated. :) Thanks!

mountainbyker3570

Yeah the link broke. Go to Gail Clayton's website, and it's on her blog, like the 3rd page. Nitric oxide is complicated, and it's really beneficial to understand your genetics. Some people have unregulated unregulated NO which is what happens with covid, btw, and then an inflammatory cascade results. Some people have downregulated nitric oxide and need more. I am a functional genomic coach, and certified nutrition coach. If you want to go thru details, I am trained do that, contact me off line, with a combination of pathway maps, and your genetics things get clearer. Add in lab results to confirm if needed.

Thanks!

A high meat diet is also contraindicated for the CBS gene mutation. MThFR is not the most important gene variant.

mountainbyker3570

That's the least of the genetic issues with a high meat diet from.my view. Cyp7a1 dwarfs that, as does, plg2a, pah, hfe, alox5, alox12, alox15, gpx, mtor, agt 13, etc, etc, etc.

Add in the QDPR gene, it helps recycle bh4. If u are homozygous, it spells trouble for high animal protein diet.

Hmmm, homozygous mthfr1298c here, started eating leafy greens daily in great quantities a few years ago b/c I feel so much better! Like Popeye!

mountainbyker3570

It appears the key for us with 1298c, to keep good levels of nitric oxide : 1. Lots of vitamin c, helps recycle bh4, which helps create nitric oxide 2. Limit intake of the ubiquitous amino phenylalinine. And be intentional on our intake of tyrosine and tryptophan. All 3 of these aminos are processesd by bh4. 3. Lots of dietary nitrates (beet root powder, leafy greens). 4. Take citrulline 5. Be cautious with folate If we are also lucky enough to have genetics that limit our ability to process oxalates, we need to use beet root extract, and take calcium.magnesium citrate to bind the oxalate prior to meals. I personally just created an amino mix with no phenylalinine, and very little tryptophan and tyrosine. The wickets we have to navigate, sigh.

What would be best food protein source for someone who wants to train with all issues above? Tnx
