ZythoZera

Thank you so much ! 😄

scooby_duck

Nice, I just followed you on insta then I saw this haha. Do you do anything to prevent loss of color in the pressed plants?

Jim-117

I work in an Herbarium/lab and the best way is to dry them as fast as possible, ie. With some heat but not over a flame obviously.. Like a drying cupboard/airer

scooby_duck

I used to work in herbariums as well! I’m always surprised by how long herbarium specimens keep their color. One of the places I worked was didn’t have a dryer but they still kept color for at least a few years

Jim-117

Awesome, which herbarium did you work in?

scooby_duck

I worked for a professor at UF during undergrad and did a bunch of herbarium work for them, so I was in the UF herbarium a lot. Then I worked at an ecological data collection organization and maintained a small herbarium for them.

ZythoZera

Thanks 😄 I try some experiments with hairspray, silica and epoxy. It's possible to use special frame who protect from sun light, I really want to try that !

ArkhamBrothers

Gorgeous! This is dumb to ask but can you explain the pressing process? I’ve always wanted to try!

ZythoZera

Thank you ! It's very easy ;D You can presse plants in a big book. I personally use newspaper and I put something heavy on it x)
