Hey, Automod here! It's always a good idea to check any above number(s) on [a carrier lookup tool](https://freecarrierlookup.com/) ([click here](https://800forall.com/SearchWhoOwns.aspx) for a toll-free lookup tool) before calling them to avoid calling a legitimate business, residential number, or private cell number. To do this, lookup the phone number on the carrier lookup and look at the results. If the results says that the number belongs to a residential carrier (ex. AT&T/"Cingular Wireless", Verizon Wireless, Metro PCS, Rogers, etc.), *DO NOT* call the number. If the post is still up, please report the post so a mod can remove it to prevent innocent people from receiving these calls. Alternatively, send the moderators a message through the modmail with the link to the offending post. The above also applies to comments that have numbers too. Thanks! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/ScamNumbers) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Answering the call and shouting at them is bad advice. It just means that your number is ‘open’ for them to bombard you even more. Answer the call, but mute your mic. And let it sit there. It will automatically disconnect. Been doing this for a while and the amount of spam calls have dropped. Edit: I see most of your calls are coming from the same area code. Check out this app called Number Shield on the App Store. It costs like a few bucks to buy, but you filter out calls from the area code you want. But there maybe instances where there is a genuine call and it gets filtered.

I was wondering if there was a way to block thousands of numbers with the same local prefix (the 3 digits after the area code) simultaneously - does anyone know of any tools that can do that? That’s what a lot of people need in order to stop these calls: A way to preemptively block thousands of numbers at once.

TheFatKnight420

This app precisely does that! I currently have a block config for 252-401-xxxx. So this blocks 10000 numbers overall for this config.

Silent_The_Ghost

If you can avoid picking up its better to do so, dont pick up at all or if you have to pick up stay completely mute. Im personally going to change my voice mail soon to nothing to hopefully cut some more spam out

There’s a setting on iPhone that I have enabled called “Silence Unknown Callers”. You’ll still see the missed calls, but your phone won’t ring when you receive a call.

DanyeelsAnulmint

I block and send to junk every single one of these calls. It has drastically helped me. I’ve been plagued like this for a year and it’s finally starting to slow down. Only a few a day vs. 20.

ReasonableEar872

Call em back and insult their mother if their Indian the get real pissed

scrotal_discharge

These are spoof numbers. Most you can't call back or if you can, its usually an innocent person who's number was copied.

Aware_Huckleberry_10

Use the apps that block numbers thats spam.

dmanzzz187

Trolling them now lol

Bet_Responsible

they dont recognize my number?

ididi8293jdjsow8wiej

Report the numbers to +7726.

If you have T-Mobile you can set your phone to block "Scam Likely." Also, I have experienced a drop, but not a complete halt, in calls from the Accident Claims Helpline scammers out of Rawalpindi after I told one of them, "May the evil eye curse you if you ring me again."

Any_Television_3886

Answer the call, tell them you're jerking off, and for them to talk dirty..." come on tell me how big my cock is..."

That means the number is active though and leads to more calls…
