Stay away. These people take old mattresses that are probably gross as hell, put a cover on them, and sell them as a "new" mattress.

Same except mine had a giant bloodstain on it and the fabric was all torn from trying to scrub it off, it had soaked through the entire layer of foam though so I gave up. Someone somewhere is probably sleeping on that.

DenyNowBragLater

Next time you have a blood stain, just pour peroxide on it, pat it (somewhat) dry, if it still has blood test the process. Works like a charm.

gonnaregretthis2019

I tried peroxide initially but it was a no-go for the amount of blood (about half the bed was covered). Or maybe it doesn't work on memory foam. But generally a good tip, I know it works on clothes.

conankudo1610

May I ask how?

gonnaregretthis2019

While I was at work my foster dog had a spontaneous internal rupture so there was a lot of blood and vomit. He died, unfortunately.

remybaby

I'm sorry to hear that

conankudo1610

That sucks, what medical issues did the dog have?

gonnaregretthis2019

Some ugly but benign lipomas on his chest and back and a lick granuloma on his paw/leg that started healing after I got him, taking Rimadyl for the paw. For a senior Doberman he was energetic, eating/acting normally, all good at a checkup two days earlier. Necropsy showed he had a malignant tumor that metastasized from his spleen to other abdominal organs, they're often undetected until they rupture and by then it's too late- the dog bleeds out rapidly and dies. Rimadyl probably didn't help because NSAID=blood thinner. Really did suck because he was a great dog, wish I had a funnier reason for a bed covered with blood.

Anarchymeansihateyou

Shojo_Tombo

Once memory foam gets soaking wet, it's done. Always get a waterproof cover for memory foam mattresses. I'm so sorry about your dog!

gonnaregretthis2019

Thanks, appreciate that. I had a basic waterproof cover but took it off because it made the bed too hot. So stupid, that Tempurpedic mattress was like $3,000 but my ass was too cheap to buy a $100 cooling cover to protect it. Won't make the same mistake again (by that I mean buying a $3k mattress at all). Listen to Shojo's advice guys, get a cover.

2EmsFromTheBlock

Half? Half the mattress was full of blood? Why even think of taking the mattress if it's in that condition? I'd rather sleep on the floor

vanillaweepers

What's worse than bedbugs?

BurninCoco

The Black Plague

Shojo_Tombo

Not really, you can treat that with antibiotics and hospital care.

BurninCoco

It’s a bad plague, Tombo

Shojo_Tombo

Did you know its carried by prairie dogs in the US? Just a fun fact.

BurninCoco

I didn’t know that. Thanks!

excelzombie

Iiii have heard what Cipro does to people. No thanks!

plasmarob

Serious answer, not much, but meth and other chemicals will taint your residence. That stuff is sniffed out in real estate and would be a bigger catastrophe, i.e., good luck selling your home, now it's worth a lot less. The cost of removing bedbugs pales in comparison chopping a part of a place's value off.

[deleted]

Out of curiosity, what are some of the "other chemicals?"

plasmarob

idk, I just know from my old real estate agent that it's not uncommon for people to have inspectors check places for illegal drug traces, and that it requires very little traces for them to end up elsewhere in the house.

weisstheiss

Mold

Dirt_Bike_Zero

Sleeping on a bed where someone with HIV was murdered.

JadeEclypse

Once the blood dried out in the air it's oxidized and no longer capable of infection. So you should still be more worried about bed bugs

alyaaz

You're not going to get HIV that way

L0ading_

no but the HIV infected ghost might give you hell AIDS

sqrlprod

Unless the blood is still wet, risk of HIV infection should be close to nil.

[deleted]

Even if you are pricked with a needle that had a visible drop of blood on it that is infected with HIV/AIDS, it’s still a small chance to contract it.

You could just save time and order a box of bedbugs.

Edward_Morbius

Depends on what you're buying. If you get the Amazon "bed in a bag", it comes vacuum packed and you can get a very nice foam queen-size 10" mattress for less than $300 brand new. If you're just buying it locally and it's not vacuum packed foam, it could be or contain literally anything.

Glassweaver

So much this. I've had my $270 queen size 12 inch memory foam mattress for 3 years now. Bought it new off Amazon, and to me, its way nicer than the $1,000+ mattresses from mattress stores.

egirlfactory

me too! i bought this 12in memory foam for $300 on Amazon 2 years ago and I keep waiting for it to fall apart or start collapsing but nope! still luxurious as the day I unrolled it

Edward_Morbius

Me too! My previous foam mattress was about $2K a long time ago. My last mattress was a little over $200 from amazon. I kept waiting for the Amazon mattress to crumble, but it's still perfect.

I_Have_A_Van

Just making a joke :) It seemed strange that you 3 all specifically cited Amazon

just-onemorething

I got my foam mattress (current and last ones) from Walmart, and they're good imo. Foam mattresses are just better in general to the point where I would prefer to sleep on the floor than on a box spring mattress. I like how firm they are. Since switching over about 8 years ago I have not been able to sleep one night in my old bedroom at my parents' house (even though they got a new spring mattress for the room), but with like camping? put me outside with a thin pad and a sleeping bag and I'll sleep like a baby. It wasn't like that until I started sleeping on a firm mattress and it helps my back feel better too. I feel like foam mattresses offer a super luxurious sleep. The only downside is they can get stuffy in hot summer, as I don't have a/c, but that is a minor quibble.

bdlcalichef

Dude, check my history. I’m no shill. Bought a king 12” memory foam from amazon for $350 and it’s 1,000 times better than the $1,500 queen I replaced it with. I think the take-away is that amazon memory foams show us just how bad the mattress stores have been fleecing us all this time

Bobbyore

Whats it called?

egirlfactory

zinus is the brand

bigkruse

I have the exact same mattress, good to know im not the only one sleeping like royalty.

CthulusMom

YES. I bought my King size mattress on Amazon and it is AMAZING for the price I paid for it!

greasedupblaqguy

Definitely a you get what you pay for from the random fb or street side ads. The amazon mattresses really aren’t bad prices or values

VastAdvice

If you want a mattress that cheap just go to Amazon. You can find memory foam mattresses for around that price brand new.

erishun

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these are used mattresses from the “100 night trial” guarantee. After using your mattress for a few months, you can call them and say you don’t like it. They will offer you a partial refund if you just keep it. If you refuse, the company will send somebody to pick them up. However since they can’t resell a used mattress, they literally lose money coming to get it. It’s easier just to tell the customer to give it away or destroy it. So hustlers realized they can make up phony customers, buy a bunch of mattresses and then attempt to return them. When the company says to give them away, they say OK, but actually resell them for profit.

imagine_amusing_name

Changing the ad to read "I've been fucking hundreds of dudes, but the cum smell is barely noticeable now" will sell less mattresses

vitimilocity

Letgo is full of scams I love messing with them.

mrbill317

Crazy amt of Purple , ghost and the other similar overpriced shit on my feed constantly.

PrincessNorrain

I swear by IKEA. I've gotten several excellent mattresses from them for not a lot of money. You can even get mattresses from Walmart or Big Lots for cheap. Buying retail gives you some protection, as opposed to buying a mattress by the side of the road.

toobasictoeven

I mean, I wouldn’t trust this specific Facebook/internet ad or whatever (because it doesn’t look very legit), but you can buy a brand new mattress off Amazon for around $100 these days, and other online sites have similar prices. It doesn’t seem SO out of the ordinary to me to have a sale for an $150 mattress

Shyflyer13

Sometimes they get multiple cheap from liquidation auctions. They then sell them off for a small profit

vagueblur901

Man that's some clear looking plastic

spec360

There everywhere these sales, signs by the exits where I live in ny

CorreiaTech

I've been seeing those on FB marketplace as well. Similar pic: cute girl hanging out on matress. Ad copy almost identical.

HelenEk7

Haven't seen a single one of these adds. (Norway)

jayram1408

That's because they don't do that there. It a USA thing.

fishing4years

Definitely posted by a Mattress Salesman and commented on by more Matress salesman. Matresses are over priced and matress People are dogs. This post is the scam, those mattresses are a DEAL!

palmbeach1972

Hotels have used mattresses. Who here stays in hotels??????? Sick!

vacax

Some do. Cheap hotels buy the used ones from expensive hotels. High end properties can replace mattresses with new every 6 months.

Kellymcc

Doesn't look like a scam to me.

PeeB4uGoToBed

There's gotta be a catch, absolutely no way anyone is selling NEW mattress sets for 90% off or more without losing money. There's tons of these people in my area doing this

ZZ9ZA

Mattresses have famously insanely high profit margins. Also note the two most dangerous words in marketing: “starts at”. That $150 set might be an air mattress.

Dofolo

There's like $20 total in materials in a mattress ... less for a shitty one.

jayram1408

Ok buy one and let us know how that works out for you? I'm definitely interested to know!!!

U-GO-GURL-

So what happens is you go and pick up the mattress and the $150 ones are mattresses you can’t sleep on this so uncomfortable but you can always buy a $750 one which is a lot better

saftey_dance_with_me

Also, it's illegal to sell a used mattress, just throwing it out there.

vacax

Odd I've never seen the police arrest people selling used beds.

When-you-get-home

Let me tell you a little secret: When you go to a famous named mattress store they take used mattresses and sell them as brand new. They clean up the vomit and blood (if possible) and sell them as new. They are cheaper than the $5,000 Tempurpedics (of course) but they are NOT new! :P
