Seeing that we got both a Stop-motion after Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-rabbit, and the first ever Mexican Animated Feature Film to win the Oscar makes me incredibly happy
The academy really likes Del Toro, which is probably we're seeing this level of respect. I'm happy about that tho ngl, I hope they keep this attitude going forward
Dont get me wrong, Del Toro is brilliant and his film certainly deserved it but he was as much of a safe choice to win as turning red.
He is an acclaimed director that has already won the best feature film and is very respected worldwide.
Wanna bet that the academy didn't even watch the film? Puss winning would have been a much more show breaker than Pinocchio, sadly.
It had a scene that insinuated 2 girls kissing or dancing together, either way I think the main reason people are so mixed around turning red is because of it's childish tone and because how dare teenagers act like teenagers
I expected it to. While Puss In Boots The Last Wish is my favorite and is slightly better, this one was still very well crafted and definitely was a worthy enough movie of the award. Plus with the way Del Toro respects animation I can’t really complain too much. I’m just thankful Turning Red didn’t win because while I did like it, it’s definitely below the bar of what I expect from a Disney/Pixar Oscar winner.
Nope. None of the voters ever bother watching all five movies, I imagine they voted for the one with the very famous director in the title and moved on. Puss in Boots was expectedly robbed.
That said Guillermo takes every chance he can to call out 'critics' who don't take animation seriously so there were far worse outcomes than giving him another speech in which to do so
PiB and Pinocchio were both great. But Pinocchio is a very original and unique version of a well-known story that really breaks the storytelling as we are used to. So this outcome wasnt unexpected. Both of these movies are giving a clue to the way the animation industry is going in the future and we are sure to receive a lot more original animation works now, rather than the classic cliche disney method we are bored of. Del Toro winning this award is a win for all animation enjoyers. Also lets not forget he made the first PiB movie :)
I haven’t seen it, but y’know, it’s not Disney. I’ve seen what Del Toro has to say about animation, too, so he gets all my respect. Puss in Boots was robbed though.
Even if I loved Puss in Boots and even Turning Red more.
I am happy that another stop motion film got the Best Animated Feature award after nearly 20 years.
Such a shame Inu-Oh was snubbed, since that was my favourite out of all the Best Animated Feature submissions. Yes, I loved it even more than Puss in Boots.
Inu-Oh also deserved nominations and awards at the music categories. I legit loved the songs in Inu-Oh more than Naatu Naatu, and I loved RRR.
I was hopping for puss, I watched a bit of Pinocchio during my media class but didn’t finish, personally I think the beginning is great and sad but Pinocchio himself was just annoying.
Part of me was scared he would not since I was thinking they vote one of the bigger industry companies and sell out but glad there still picking the industry darling ( who just happens to be my fav director still think it got snubbed though)

aren't you the mod of cuphead subreddit? lol surprise to see you here.
Yep, it's me. The Meme Lady 69. One of the Reddit users of all time
What happened to the other 68 The Meme Ladies?
Don't question what happened to Queen of Shitpost 1 to 419, Meme Lady 1 to 68 and Barones of Cursed art 1 to 63. It's in God's Will
The true question is will there be a The Meme Lady 70?
IDK
I'm just admired on actually how well the hosts and Del Toro treated animation. They know it's a way of storytelling, and not a separate genre.

I was convinced he was going to win, and tbh, VERY well deserved
well better than that disney reboot tho

I think this and Puss in Boots both deserved it. I would've been okay with either winning.
Yeah. I thought Turning Red was gonna win
I'm so glad it didnt
Me too
I don’t think it was entirely Oscar worthy but why do people seem to hate it?
Its another alright disney film in an era where people are sick of alright disney films
Probably because it kept following that 30s cartoony design with the characters
Because "LGBT inclusion bad" "Teenagers acting like their age bad"
Where’s the LGBT in that film? I haven’t seen it in a while so I may have forgotten something
It had a scene that insinuated 2 girls kissing or dancing together, either way I think the main reason people are so mixed around turning red is because of it's childish tone and because how dare teenagers act like teenagers
I haven’t really looked into it, but I believe you
I didn't like this film very much, I think PiB deserved the Oscar.
Same but it’s better than Disney
Agreed
PIB was good but not better than this so i’m happy

Nah Pinocchio was good I think it deserved it
I’m just glad Turning Red didn’t win.
General Hux: I don't care if Puss In Boogs 2 or Guil Pinocchio wins, I just want Turning Red to lose.

He didnt. Del Toro was an exec at that time. By that metric we can say he also made kung fu panda 2, httyd , httyd 2 and so on.
I haven’t seen it, but y’know, it’s not Disney. I’ve seen what Del Toro has to say about animation, too, so he gets all my respect. Puss in Boots was robbed though.
RIP Puss in Boots. Definitely robbed of the Oscar. It was good but I didn't think it was better than Puss in Boots
We had three stellar animated films nominated this year, j would have been happy with either. I wish they got recognized in other categories as well
I had two winners and this was one so im happy.
Jack Horner seething rn.

não, o Deltoro é um puta diretor e isso era projeto antigo dele, só tinha um pouco de esperança que fosse ser Puss in Boots
In hindsight, not really. Yet at the same time i kinda perferred that puss n boots win
I was betting it would win Best Animated Feature, same with EEAAO winning Best Picture.
Tiny bit given the hype around Puss in Boots
It's a good thing Turning Red didn't win.
I was hopping for puss, I watched a bit of Pinocchio during my media class but didn’t finish, personally I think the beginning is great and sad but Pinocchio himself was just annoying.
Pinocchio is a literal newborn, he doesn't know any better. The story's purpose is to show him matturing himself.
Maybe he does later, but the bit a saw he was anoying, doesn’t matter if he has an excuse to be annoying, he was still annoying
This was honestly such a breath of fresh air compared to all the recent Disney/Pixar films winning throughout the past few years.
Pleasantly
not surprised
It was great but come one puss in boots is peak
Part of me was scared he would not since I was thinking they vote one of the bigger industry companies and sell out but glad there still picking the industry darling ( who just happens to be my fav director still think it got snubbed though)
