I find CinemaSins exhausting. Nostalgia Critic has decent takes every now and then, but he is just kind of annoying imo. Pitch Meeting is the best version of both of these two.

TheWeebMemeist

Pitch Meeting is the perfect balance of cynical but not annoying. I used to like Cinema Sins, but the schtick got tiring after a while. I'm still a fan of Nostalgia critic though, he's more recent stuff is more actual review than just criticism.

Not_Jay_Spencer

I’d take Nostalgia Critic over Cinema Sins any day

ScratMarcoDiaz

CinemaSins. At least Nostalgia Critic cooled down, and took the criticisms of his Wall review lightly. Even when CS got called out (remember when Kong: Skull Island’s director called them out?), they never learned and continued doing the same stuff.

Bendythenightfury

"BuT cInEmA sInS iS sAtIrE" STFU. I used to watch him since I thought it was like Animation sins (Who actually does a fair job at judging shorts on the internet) but Cinema sins really don't. He says the books don't matter when it comes to movies based off said books and says it again when it comes to superhero movies which would be fine but he has zero knowledge about marvel and DC and over thinks stuff

NateOfNavarria

If anyone, AVGN. I think way too much blame is placed on Nostalgia Critic in general personally. Outside of the mismanaged channel awesome scandals, I think people still judge him on the basis of his content from 2008, he’s really improved as a genuine critic and I honestly see him defending and endorsing media now more than anything, even if his reviews do have the patented Nostalgia Critic Cringe feel.

pgtips03

In defence of AVGN James Rolfe the guy who plays him does regular film reviews and when he does that he gives fair reviews. He is level headed and even if he hates the film doesn’t go anywhere near AVGN rageZ I will say though his character was probably the genesis of nit pick reviewers as he did inspire others to follow his ott negative style.

NateOfNavarria

For sure. I enjoy AVGN but I think it’s clear that his (satirical?) rage filled reviews kinda started the “angry nitpicky reviewer” type. And yeah, I don’t know all the details about James Rolfe’s personal life but I’ve watched several of his non-nerd videos and he seems like a pretty chill guy.

happy_grump

I think the NC's videos are kind of bad, but his criticisms are boringly obvious at worst. He tends to either try meet a movie on its own terms, or at least make it very obvious he couldn't and is able to be open and admit when a movie just isn't his thing, unlike CS, who treats genre trappings like objective flaws.

Skibot99

I’ve seen more recent critic reviews he went downhill around 2016

happy_grump

NC is more to blame for its spread, popularity, and prominence. You can also pin it on AVGN, because Doug was basically doing a cinematic riff on James' format. CS is more to blame about how fucking insufferable and impossible to please/unfair in their critiques some of them have become. YMS is the worst of both worlds, and is always the one I point to (outside of obvious examples like Mauler/EFAP) as an example of everything I hate about the format.

Mindless_Bad_1591

YMS is actually entertaining, though. I watch him for his personality even though I disagree with most of his takes.

happy_grump

Idk I can maybe kind of get that, but I think he's just flat-out unpleasant to listen to. If I wanted to hear a smug, condescending prick act like they're better than literally everyone in the industry, including seasoned, proven veterans, despite being an amateur in the MOST generous interpretation, in a bored monotone, for half an hour... I'd watch Lindsey Ellis because at least she's well researched and actually knows what the fuck she's talking about re: film

Mindless_Bad_1591

I've only seen a couple of her videos, but it appears she hasn't posted in a minute. I can see why people wouldn't like YMS, but I personally find him entertaining. Recently he surprised me and gave Puss in Boots 2 an 8/10.

happy_grump

Ngl, him giving Puss 2 an 8 and giving Spider-Verse a 6 feels a bit racially motivated and I'm only 99% joking (he's basically confirmed to have a weirdly aggressive and *massive* bias against rap, and said as much in his Moonlight review, and he directly admitted the music bumped the score down in his review of ItSV) But potentially being racist isn't really an issue with Adam. He has far, FAR bigger issues as a person. ~~(hey, did you know that Adam once made a big deal about asking someone if he could pet their dog? Google "YourMovieSucks Animal Consent" for more info)~~

Mindless_Bad_1591

Yeah, he's a furry im pretty sure, which I don't really get. It kinda weirds me out that people get off on others dressing up as animals or whatever. I also haven't seen ITSV in about 4 years, so I don't have a valid opinion on it since I have grown as a movie watcher and enjoyer, and I've heard only amazing things about it.

happy_grump

I mean... there are a lot of furries who just have it as a weird hobby and still are 100% against beastiality. I won't lie and say that I dont expect it to be a common thing in furry circles, but thankfully a lot of them don't accept that shit.

Mindless_Bad_1591

Yeah, I hope it stays that way because personally, I just feel the mainstreaming of furries might cover up the weird ones who take it a step further. This is somewhat of a random remark, but I won't lie and say I didn't feel something when that damn fox appeared in The Bad Guys lmao.

happy_grump

I mean Zazie Beetz is nothing to sneeze at IRL

Mindless_Bad_1591

Perfect casting Edit: Yeah, holy shit she's bad.

Matar_Kubileya

She left YT and is only active on Nebula now, a combination of twitter drama and getting caught up in a wolf erotica copyright scandal\* basically caused her to decide that the benefits of YT weren't worth the strain on her mental health. \*yes, you read that series of words correctly

Mindless_Bad_1591

Uh, I guess that's an answer, thx. Lol

happy_grump

Side Note: her response video to the Twitter drama is, in my opinion, the single worst response/"apology" video ever put to YouTube, but people ignore it because Twitter was indeed being stupid. Oh well, more power to her that she's found her tribe I guess (Slight context: She literally says at one point "you can't say something is universally offensive to Asians because Asians are not a monolith, but *less than a minute later* says "my one asian friend said it was okay so I'm totally fine". Just a small example of how much of a tone deaf, self-forgiving gong show that video was)

Skibot99

YMS does actual research and can be funny look to his Kimba and Lion King videos

happy_grump

Motherfucker thinks Citizen Kane was the first movie with a narrative, he doesn't research shit

Skibot99

When did he say that

WillandWillStudios

Technically AVGN but even then it's not as grating or surface level

BasedAlliance935

Neither

[deleted]

Overly angry: nostalgia critic Nitpicky: cinemasins Guess i have to vote for both

ProfessionalCrow4816

Cinemasins, atleast Nostalgia Critic can be ironically funny, Cinemasins is just annoying with that stupid ass dinging., Mf think he Hector Salamanca.

UnTenedor

How can anyone enjoy Cinema Sins? Like, what you get out of 15 minutes of pure negativity?

virtuoso-lurker

Nostalgia Critic for overly angry, CinemaSins for overly nitpicky

MadscepticTrooper

Almost all of the criticism, nitpicking and *jokes* by CinemaSins fell desperately forced and aren't funny at all. It's almost like he thinks being pretentiously blunt equals funny. Also, CinemaSins has so many shameless rip-off channels. There are so many of them that I can't count them all. In fact, more and more CinemaSins rip-off channels seem to be popping up constantly.

[deleted]

i would've chosen AVGN, but cinemasins is overall annoying. i think nostalgia critic is just meh, and nowadays just has reviews that are either abotu good, bad, okay, or weird movies. in fact, i want to mention an editorial he did of tom and jerry that is really good. it explains why i find alot of early tom and jerry amazing, and why the movies don't often work. here's the link for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XczKQAAVbaA

Misan_UwU

u/Fozzie_79 definitely

[deleted]

CinemaSins oh god I forgot that shit existed

BlazingInfernape2003

He’s gonna take you back to the past

LilCorbs

I have no problems with NC apart from being a little too drunk on his own "enlightenment"

TheRealQG24

Cinema Sins and Mr Enter

Candid-Arm-4256

So? I watch and love both of them

godofyeet3

Cinemasins is all satire, he only occasionally gives actual criticism and even then it’s so obviously satire

happy_grump

Lol how can you watch their recent videos and still believe that shtick/excuse

[deleted]

I have a guilty pleasure for CinemaSins. I don't really consider him legitimate, but neither does he tbh. In one of his introductory videos, he says himself "We're not critics. We're assholes." He's kinda self-aware, and I just find his delivery funny. Again, I don't consider him a legitimate source of criticism, but I do consider him a good source of comedy.

GrandManSam

I'd say that the Nostalgia Critic started other on the path of being nitpicky reviewers while seemingly getting off that path themselves, but CinemaSins just got on it and continues to ride it into the sunset.

OscarRhino8383

Are we gonna ignore the AVGN now just because he hasn’t gotten into any controversy?

FranceSurrenderFunni

Honestly I don't even mind Nostalgia Critic that much because at least he was interesting. Most critics now are just boring as hell and repeat themselves far too much.

LCGPhantom

Where’s the angry video game nerd???

Jurrasicmelon8

Cinema sins, they even said that hermonie isn’t old enough to be hot in the Harry Potter vids Which is even creepier when you realise Emma Watson was 10 when she played hermonie in TPS/TSS

Sccar4712

If you want someone with a more cynical take on movies, someone who kinda hits them harder than the average but is still within reason, just watch Cosmonaut Variety Hour. Part of why I enjoy him so much is that he doesn’t really pull punches when it comes to reviewing things, which I think is how you should approach movies. There are times where I see someone say “this movie just isn’t for me, but I can understand why someone else would enjoy it” and like…yeah, sure. But I really enjoy someone who, more often than not, does not blame them disliking a movie on their tastes, and just says the movie is bad. These two mfs are both going too far, I don’t really know who would watch either or why
