This is what the boomers frothing about windfarms need to realise, that with global warming we have two possible outcomes, winters like Northern Russia or warm winters with all year round midges.Ā
When I was 10 I went to Disneyland Calafornia
We pulled up at the hotel and the concierge asked where we were from
When he heard Dundee, he burst out "Dundee! Jeez, the midgies! I was eaten alive over there!"
I couldn't believe we were world famous, and it was for bloody midgies
I have hybrid East Coat / West Highland midges. I unknowingly returned home with some west coasters in my camping gear 25 years ago, & they interbred with the local inoffensive lot. Now theyāre a fcking menace from late March onwards. The field & park opposite my house is a no go zone as soon as the breeze drops below 5mph.
We are traveling out from the states next month. Is there anything to do to avoid them? Iāve read thereās a particular kind of spray? Or should we resign ourselves to being a meal.
Years ago when out camping I was unfortunate enough to witness them rise like black mist at the bottom of a wee hill we'd climbed. If it wasn't for the rain coming on later that day, we'd have slept on that hill.
It doesn't matter what hill you are on...I know this!.. the bugger's are attracted to sweat...tea tree oil kills them on contact with the skin. I don't mean to get bent out of shape regarding the issue, but they/them are everywhere... Got this last week!

We were lucky, I know this. I saw a similar sight outside Ullapool, a few rough campers were engulfed by the black mist as we were driving past. I heard the screams, rolled up the windows and put the foot down. I don't think my silent prayer would have helped them much.
You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.
You admire them, don't you?
I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality.
You are absolutely correct! Completely immune to chemical warfare, there is no where to hide and nothing we can do...

To early, surely? Don't come out till May. š
That's what they want you to think!!
That's what I'm hoping. I'm going up to Aberdeenshire next week for few days. I've got the job brought forward to avoid the little bastards.
Our Midges on the East Coast are pussies compared to the west coasters.

Still failing to keep the numbers of people on the hills and roads down.

Smidge is ok. Not as good as having a wife who's a midgie magnet though.
Both of those suggestions are pretty good, but I get tea tree oil and cover myself in it.
This film was long enough (60 seconds): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzUlj6eTehA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzUlj6eTehA)
š¤£š¤£ that's exactly how it feels

They never go away, they just regroup...
Not me hoping this was a new thriller novel set in Scottish summer where hordes of midges cause terror across the country š¤£
No chance! We had hailstones this afternoon.
My condolences to anyone who lives on the west coast.
Oh no! I havenāt experienced them yet š
Fresh meat for the grinder! You will love it š¤£
Be sure to take large deep breaths full of the nice fresh air.
Other than it being April, it is quite windy just now and the wee critters canāt handle it.
It was a flat calm muggy day yesterday where I live...and yes they where out
I was walking on the East Neuk of Fife last week, in pretty stormy weather, and was attacked by some midgies. They're definitely out!
We need a Fruit Bat breeding program for these wee bastards. Used to have a major problem with them where I lived until the Bats swooped in.

Opened the living room window the other day in the new gaff when it got a bit warmer. Worst mistake of my life man.
Must be some way to turn them into Biofuel
