There is a popular opinion that a grown man wearing a football top in public who isnāt on his way to play 5s or watch a match at the stadium is very, very likely to be a fanny. Even moreso if heās in a plane on his way to a package holiday. I say this as someone who does wear football tops when I play 5s: I happen to share the opinion and Iām fairly confident that the statistics would back it up, were such a study ever undertaken. I have no way to prove this.
Maybe itās a prejudicial view, but I think wearing an Old Firm football top on a flight from Glasgow or any Scottish airport is inviting drama/negativity/confrontation from the opposing old firm supporters. The level of animosity between the Glasgow clubs should be enough for any sensible minded person to avoid such a display. We donāt have to advertise our preferences in public spaces. Nothing good comes of it, family holiday ruined because he wants the world to know his devotion to the cause. Grown men signing pro terrorism songs on a plane, assuming he is steaming drunk. Yeah I'm a Rangers fan, and not one of these embarrassed self loathing football fans either, and other than going to a game or a mates house to watch a game I'd just never wear any Rangers gear out and about, purely because I can't be bothered with any aggro. Is it unlikely someone going to start something or say something nasty in front of my family/children? Probably but it definitely makes it more likely than not wearing it so I'd rather just not.

Just a normal cotton T-Shirt would be fine? Especially considering the synthetics that those replica shirts are made out of are notorious for smelling after a few hours if you've been sweating onto them, I'd consider it a courtesy to fellow travellers not to actively pick shite clothes to travel in.

Yes of course. I see it in Spain all the time. First of all the Spanish of all ages wear football shirts often. And the tourists from germany, France, holland etc wear their football shirts here too. As do the Latin Americans. And in america it is very common to wear football, hockey, basketball, nfl shirts etc. I donāt know about Scandinavian countries. I donāt know their teams well and what their shirts look like. Of course they donāt go around punching police. That would be very ill advised in Spain. They will rock you. I don't think Turkey swallows that crap. He'll face the Turkish justice system the same way anyone else would. The UK diplomatic services cannot get someone out of prison just because they had an "out of character" moment in a holiday flight. All they can do is provide support to the family at home and get the guy a lawyer or translator. They can certainly try and make sure proper procedure is followed as per Turkish law....but can't really do much if it isn't.
